would you recommend buying a DFP from eBay?

hey

i was thinking of purchasing a DFP from eBay. I have been looking in this section at some of the problems people have faced with the DFP, like non-fully-functioning pedals and locking steering wheels. If such problem was to occur, would I be able to get a replacement from Logitech even though I got it from eBay?

I doubt logitech would do it, but I would check the forums to find out which DFP model has the best pedal set and whatnot, then ask the person you are buying from which one they have.

I got lucky and got the good metal potentiometer pedal set and wheel on Ebay for about $100.

Would have been less except for some damn last minute snipers that I had to take out courtesy of my quick cable line.

I just can't take the risk of buying a wheel on eBay when there are older wheels out there that have that pedal problem, especially if you buy used and dont have the reciept as proof of purchase. Be careful. Plus I bought mine for under $90. PM me if you want more info.

I just bought mine for 100 CND plus shipping, around 80-85 USD. I would say for that price, ebay can't really get much cheaper. Plus I know how hard it is on a wheel when you use them, even when you don't try to. I promised myself I would take it wasy on mine, and I kept having to stop myself from rapidly correcting oversteer, ect, which can't be too great for it...

basically ebay's a risk. when it comes to stuff like nitro RC cars and such i've gotten all of that EXCLUSIVLY through ebay but electroncis can be an issue.

if you get it via ebay try to get the upc bar code and reciept if possible. if not possible try to set a budget well below retail value so if you get burned or it only last a few months you still get you "moneys worth".

basically there is 2-3 versions out there (i've only personlly owned 2 of them). i've owned vA and vB. you can tell by the inclosed booklet, that says what version you own.

VB has a shiny metal potentiometer visible from certain angles when you shine a light into the gaps around the gas/brake pedals.

VA has a cheap plastic bit that breaks before you can say "heel-toe".

Ideally you should contact the seller early on and ask if they know for sure, can give the model number (which tells which is which), or have a pic of the Potentiometer.

I would never recommand to buy it from eBay, even if discontinued. The DFP has so much pedal problems, that you dont know if the one you are buying on eBay is broken or not.

eBay ? DFP ?? HELL NO !!!!

At this point I wouldn't recommend eGay for anything unless you feel like shooting yourself in the foot repeatedly and throwing money away...

Wherever you can buy one and get a good warranty.

I bought my first on ebay for around US$80, worked for a little while, then quit.

I bought my second at Best Buy(I don't know if you have that on your side of the Atlantic, but it's a huge, chain electronics store) for US$150 with a 2 year warranty which costed me about US$40 extra.

It puts up with the abuse I dish out, but the pedals have been acting up recently. I figure I can give them my old wheel with my new pedals and end up with two-working DFPs :)

I buy things on Ebay since 1998 and had almost no problems at all while saving thousands of dollars. Cheap and fast... I buy things in America, Asia and Europe and it all works perfectly.
You just have to read the description carefully and divide the trustful sellers from the less trustfull ones and that's it...

So far no one is... :grumpy: I'll Never again deal with anyone from NY, the one or two people there haven't sent jack.

Well, I have the usual ebay horror stories, but since then I have smartened up on how to go about getting money, your product or both back.
So i used ebay to get my dfp.
Results:

$75 Shipped. No lie, Brand New.
Woot.

so if i go to best buy to get a wheel i can just ask for the vb? instead of va? i really want a wheel but ebay doesnt look good since it could just break down on me after like a month.

dude i'm with you man!!! not that i'm recommending buying from ebay, but personally i've bought 70% of EVERYTHING i currently own from ebay (i've binged like crazy on ebay) with out issue. i've bought everything from RC cars, RC radios, to my Spy Hunter arcade game from ebay, with out issues. like DC said you DO have to read the discriptions as well as check there feedback.

i guess i wouldn't buy computer parts that are used off ebay but there are SO MANY brick and morder stores halking there wares on ebay that you CAN get brand new stuff off ebay, i've been a member since 1999.

and ebay's way better than Ubid and other online auction places so don't get that twisted.

speaking of reading well, a guy i know bought an empty xbox 360 packaging for 400 bucks because he did not read the fine print. be careful, read things twice/3 times and make sure u know exactly what you're paying for.

i'm currently winning the bid the for the DFP i have found. Bid is at £51, but my absolute maximum is £60.

As you're quoting in £, I've just purchased mine (new) from www.darkplanets.co.uk for just over £65 including P&P.

Personally, I'd pay the bit more to get it new, as then I've got a standard 1 year guarantee with it.
