The damn Supreme Court ruling won't affect gay marriage laws in the slightest - anybody ever hear of states' rights?

Talentless agrees with me.

Tell your friends.

What are the gay marriage laws over there?
States issue marriage licenses, so they control who gets married within their borders - right now, the only state allowing it is Hawaii, which happens to be closest to Australia.

Heck no, it's not going to affect same-sex marriages, just same-sex fornication.

I think people are confused because Canada's Supreme Court just made it federally illegal for the Provinces to legislate against homosexual marriages. The Canadian national legislature had been purposely delaying the issue with committees for years, so the Court decided to force their hand.

Thank you!

I continue to hear 'Will same-sex marriages be next?' - on Abrams, O'Reilly, McLaughlin, and even the AOL startup screen.

I'm sick of it!

Oh yeah... Ive heard of states rights alright... they were what we used to use when deciding if abortion was right or wrong. (in my/our/your states opinion)

But just as with abortion, the states right to decide was taken away. (or never there in the first case, as I dont know what happend with the gay marriage decision your talking about.)

Fill me in if you wish, but you know my opinion on gay marriage.

Since it's a medical practice, it probably has to be federally regulated.

The decision reversed Texas's extremely stupid sodomy laws which made it illegal to have gay sex in your own home.

The laws never stopped me before. :P

Now I won't have the thrill of being a lawbreaker, though. :P

Just drive a little faster.

Though I'd imagine it's not the same thrill.

The fuzzy gray area between states rights and federal control is a real problem. The current administration is supposedly all for states rights, but whe it comes to some moral issue, they step in and exert their will. Medical marijuana is one example, and doctor assisted suicide. The states rights argument would logically end in each state being it's own country, each one totally autonomous. States rights arguments throw the federal government into obsolescence, even as they argue for it. It's another circular contadicion. See my signature. And morals are the only reason states rights are usurped.

I believe medicinal marijuana and doctor assisted suicide would fall under Federal control. I don't see any gray area there.

As far as how state's rights apply to this thread, Doug already pointed out that states issue marriage licenses.

Anyone heard of the proposed "Federal Marriage Ammendment"? That's either the case of people confusing the sacrament of Marriage with the legal state contract of marriage, or another dose of forced morality.

At least it has little chance of passing.
