"WRS Grippers" vs "Drifters"...a possibility?!?

There is a definite limit to how fast a drifting(for speed, basically a mix of grip and drift) car can go. That limit is much higher for a car that is not. However, the two limits are much closer together when there is no downforce, and the track is suited to both grip and drift.

I have a great example for this in a saved replay of a drift during a championship race between two Lotus Elises (190 Sport models). The tires and specs are the same for both cars, and the approach speed is basically the same. I'll get some snapshots of this soon.

its simple to arrange

Get a drift car,and do a few laps of time trial round...say apricot hill, goin as fast as u can, then post the time up,then get a grip car (obviously with loads less power) and get as close to that time as possible, when u find a gripper and drifter that can lap the hill in the same time then pit them against eachother, i know a standard yellowbird with N2s is a good match for a focus ST170 on S3s they go round side by side

I will try that NSX combo you posted on N2's with those settings. See what i can get.

But im afraid it will be hard to compare.

Guys like Holl01 have car control i would put right next to the Guys from Team FBI, just in different aspects.

In a fair race, no matter the tires or settings, grip will win unless its dirt. Dont forget the top grippers can drift also when nessicary to improve lap times, Did you guys see Holl01's S-14 video at chamonix? and on tarmac in the rare cases its faster to put the car into a nice 4 wheel drift then grip the corner we can.

Back in GT3 exhaust_note made a competition to favour the drifters by creating a "touge" type race at deep forest on "sim" tyres. Yet it was the "Grippers" from WRS who won.

None the less i will give the combo 30mins or so and see what i can get.

My times were done with N2's, Sheron was your 1'58.xxx drifting time done with N3's?

I think a good idea could be WRS div 1 vs guys from IDM or FBI.

Have 2 events.

A time attack on a track just like WRS, and then have Drift comp on a track judged the normal way you drifters judge. This way each team has their strong race, but it could be a good example to see if the Div 1 guys really can drift well, and the brilliant drifters are fast on a track. Im sure we might see a few suprises and the results could be interesting.

I would put more emphasis on the fun factor than the actual "Who is the best".

Think of it like Michael schumacher and Sebastian Leob swap rides.

lol, i remember that touge challenge....
Azuremen and I were having a good time of it beating each others laps in our MR-S's,.... then you climbed in your Alto Works and embarassed us to the tune of 2 seconds/lap.

was a good time though, :D

edit: wow - I looked up that old thread.... it's been over a year already since we ran that... It sure doesnt feel like it, but I guess it makes sense though since it was in GT3
