xXKingJoshXx's Lincoln Town Car

Ah, that's what confused me  Never heard them called quarter lights before.

It's probably an older expression which has stuck around in English English longer than it has in U.S. English  Quater windows/quarter lights/vent windows. Same difference :)

Yup never heard that before either. Always called them a vent window and places like LMC that sell them list them as vent windows. I wish new cars had them...

Some have the window itself (i.e. a divider between the glass that drops and the vent window/quarterlight), albeit not one you can open. Would be interesting to know what the most recently produced car was that allowed you to open them. I'm guessing something made in the early 90s, if you don't count stuff like the classic Beetle that was made into the 2000s.

I'm not even sure. I really like the ones that are on the truck (manual), they come in handy. Same with the sliding windows on the back of the cab.

I think I know what the problem with my engine is. I'm pretty sure it's the catalytic converter, so I might have straight pipes put on.

Not bad. The body and paint seems to be in great shape Josh.

Don't feel bad about owning a car that was owned by a grandmother. I just traded my beautiful 1994 GMC Sierra for a 2004 Pontiac Sunfire.

I really miss my truck, but it was better that I had let it go. I got a good deal on the Sunfire, plus it has really low miles on it.

Little bit of fixing and that Lincoln should last you a while. Heck later on you could restore it.

Oh I don't feel bad about it. A lot of people own grandparent's cars anyways. I love the Lincoln, and it probably wouldn't make a difference if my grandma owned it or not.

But about restoring it: I've thought about it. It's in pretty good condition right now, just a little bit of engine work and a new vinyl top, and maybe a repaint, and it would be good. Also, a few little things around the car need to be fixed as well. And it's only about 24 years old right now; I'd have to let it get older to gain some value. In its condition, it's worth from $1,000-$1,700 and putting another $1,500 into it to get it in showroom condition just isn't smart. Sure, once I get it in better condition, the value will go up, but I'm going to wait a while.

Also, it's getting dark, so in a bit I'll go outside and take some pictures with the lights on.

Here's those pictures. They turned out badly without flash on, so I'm only going to include two of those.

Here you can see the light in between the front and back door (I'm sure it has a name! :dopey:) as well as the glow-in-the-dark thermometer on the side view mirror and the dash lights.

Hope you like them!

Would it cause the Check Engine light to come on?

The backup could be causing an o2 sensor after the manifold to become overloaded with "dirt exhaust" full of co2 and set the light off.

We fixed the Lincoln today. Just had to unplug the old TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) and plug in a new one ($35 part) and it ran great.

I hate TPS systems. Much rather have a throttle cable through the firewall so there is a less risk of failure.

Well I drove it today, and it ran soooo much differently than it had when it was having problems. First off, the random acceleration is gone. Secondly, the spontaneous revving has stopped. Thirdly, it's running so much better. It feels like it's gained horsepower. It's definitely faster. It's so nice not having to worry about leaving your car idling for more than a few seconds.

Sounds like the symptoms of a bad cat too. Wow.

Erm...

He has one.

There's just an electronic sensor connected to the throttle body. You know, to tell the computer what position the throttle is in. Hence the name Throttle Position Sensor.

I must be thinking of something newer then where it's all done by computer. Press the pedal, computer sends signal to throttle body to open/close.

Nice video dude. You really should do something with the exhaust though, get that thing to sound mean =P I mean do something like straight pipe it or put dual exhaust on it (Bonus: More horsepower :)). Should sound something to this effect if it's stock:

Startup at 5:15

And trust me, under load it sounds WICKED.

Made a new video.

*Town Car pwnage*

I apologize about the wind noise. :indiff:

That Town Car has one thing a lot of cars on the roads don't have: presence. When you see that thing coming around the road, you notice it. Nice horn, too. :dopey:

Which is why I like big American boats lol

That's just known as an electronic throttle.

Sometimes they suck, if they're matched with a mushy gas-mileage-friendly map, but they can also be as sharp as the sharpest cable setups, which is cool. Plenty of cars offer a button that lets you choose at least, so you're rarely stuck with the mushy one.

Certainly no less reliable, as you seem to be implying. Electronic throttles can't accidentally snag, nor will their non-existent cable snap. Cables, by and large, are pretty rubbish in cars. Speedo cables go wonky after several years, clutch cables snap, handbrake cables stretch and need constant adjustment, cable-operated gearshifts have sod-all feel... they're just long, snake-like bits of fail for the most part :D

For some reason though I just don't really trust them. Like always think it might get interfered with or something. I just feel safer with something mechanical. Guess that's just me though.

Figured I'd do an update since I haven't done one in forever and I just made a new quick vid. The Lincoln is doing about the same, the only problem it's having is something that I think is dirty fuel injectors. And it stutters on accelerating and sometimes at idle. Other than that, it's just as good as it has been.

As you can see, it's currently covered in snow. I'd like to take the Colts front license plate off because I really don't like football but it has a little sentimental value to me.

Here's the new video. It's just a freezing cold start.

Yes I saw you're face at 0:46 now just to hear your voice. Josh what were you doing with your hand.

What is your obsession with seeing my face and voice in every video I make? And I was holding the camera with my hand...

Man you really need to uncork that exhaust.

I think I know what you mean by "uncork", but what exactly are you talking about? :P
