YLOD New PS3 GT5 Question

Hey guys, unfortunate for me, my PS3 just got the YLOD. Really sad as I've had this PS3 since launch and it only needed to make it another Half Year before the PS4 is expected to come out. I really want to purchase a New PS3 for GT5 but, I know that the Game Saves are a bit strange on GT5 and are different than other games. So, my question is. I have Playstation Plus so, my GT5 Game Save Data is backed up on the servers. If I buy a new PS3 and download the Game Save Data, will it work like normal? Or will it recognize that it is not the same PS3 system as before and not work.

Yeah thats what I did recently.

However, you tried the hairdryer trick as a quick word around just to get it booting and then get the most recent save data file? If PS+ backs up the most recent file you don't need worry

Yeah, I tried the hair dryer trick to try and get the disc out but, nothing doing. Ate my FIFA 13 disc, which I'm pretty upset about as FIFA 13 and GT5 were the only thing that I played on it.

If you can't get the disc out by hitting the eject button repeatedly while it tries and fails to boot up, It's not very hard to just take the drive apart with a screwdriver. I had to get GT5 out of mine that way after it lost all power. Some people have trouble with the screw that holds the cosmetic top cover-plate on, it is an odd shape, but with a small flat-head screwdriver you can remove it. Other than that there's nothing difficult about getting the drive out and opened up.

Sony fixed my big PS3 for $99 shipping included. Or they sent me a refurbished different one, couldn't tell the difference.

I'm a computer guy and I took the motherboard out of mine and inspected and reassembled the PS3 before I sent it. Those repair kits are a temporary fix if they work at all from what I've researched online.Plus I have zero confidence in reheating solder with a heat gun and if your not tech savvy the disassembly and re-assembly will blow your mind.

I know I sound negative about it but just trying to share my experience. Hope you get it fixed!

On my release day PS3, I've taken it apart twice and reheated the solder via heatgun, re-thermal pasted the CPU and dusted all internal fans, and had it last over 5 months each time.

This I think is better than the extortionate £90 that Sony Charge for something that's their fault and a known issue.

Whilst that guide is pretty fairly priced it's unneeded because the most costly part is the heatgun that's all thats needed with some decent thermal paste. Their are numerous PDF guides and free youtube videos.

I've done the heatgun method about a dozen times to about 5 different fatty's.

They have all worked afterwards. Perfect record!

It is a temporary fix but you can get the disc out and save your data!

Hello, I did the heat gun thing, it wasn`t too difficult.
I had a harder time finding the gel for the heat sink than the actual repair.
I got the gel at Best Buy for about $10 and followed some simple instructions from the U-Fix-it website.
I did mine in Sept. 2012, no problems since(keeping fingers crossed) and I still have gel left over.

If fixing it don't work

Sony will take your old system and sell you a refurbished one for around 100$ Sometimes if your dedicated to keeping all data they sometimes can repair your system but they charge 150$ for that, but things may have changed in the few weeks since I checked. I had a BSOD, and fixed it after a week, but not before I checked my options to replace it.

No stress, If you run into trouble, I can re-assign your save game from your old system to your new system. If you have trouble just shoot me a PM.

Luckily my Playstation Plus theory was right and I still have all the data from the games that I still currently play.

Now, I am having a different problem though. That 8GB install that GT5 does, let it do it's business overnight, didn't work. Seems to get locked up about 2/3 the way. Anybody know what this might be?

Error in the internet connection maybe? Had it while I installed BF3.

It seems to stop doing data transfer at that point because the flashing orange light indicating HDD transfer stops blinking at that 2/3 point that I've gotten too.

I'll try to do it disconnected from the internet and report back.

Try deleting your cache if that doesn't work I would delete all GT5 stuff and start from beginning.

Can I copy all of my GT5 stuff to a flash drive then delete it from the system. Install the 8GB and then copy my GT5 data back after that? I'm not deleting my GT5 game save data for good and starting over. I'm literally 7 hours away from getting a platinum trophy on the game.

JUST The save game, you don't need to copy and save anything else of your GT5 data delete all the rest, JUST keep your save game. Good idea to periodically save a copy to your PC for safe keeping.

In your first post you said you had Playstation Plus so You still have your "Game Save" the only other thing you could lose could be pictures and saved game videos which I would guess you don't have any since you have not played GT5 on your new PS3 system. Copying your save data might be a good ideal just remember which flash drive you copied it to.
