Is that a police shield stuck to the hood of that car????
^ Yes, thats the Japanese Police Forces badge. Unless if its unmarked or any bike cop, all marked police cars whether if its the standard Toyota Crown or the epicly-epic R34 Skyline GT-R these cars come with a JDM police badge standard. :)

this should really be a "show your police livery" thread :P

the "staties" are still running Crown Vics. other than a few Chargers, that's all I see around here

did anybody take note of the Z cop car? even americans know of at least 1 Japanese police livery...one of the original transformers was a Datsun Z in that livery.

True story.

I don't generally speed, much. But I was coming home, late at night about 130am, in the middle of nowhere somewhere between Phoenix and Los Angeles, and i'm flying. Probably doing 130 or so. Can't say for sure, but in my car it was basically as fast as it could go and my car (1990 Mercedes 300E 2.6) is (power) restricted to 130 or so. I would only slow down a little for cars I was approaching to pass and if there was oncoming traffic.

I turned down all the interior lights in my car, including the stereo because glare affects my eyes when I am tired at night. Turned all the mirrors so that they were not going to reflect light from behind me right into my eyes. I was even wearing sunglasses.

Anyway, I see a car ahead of me, and i'm still approaching it at top speed. As I get closer I start slowing down a little. I swing to the passing lane to pass this car and thats when I see a set of headlights behind me.

At the speed I am going, I know only Johnny Law is driving that fast. Had to flip up the shades to confirm by looking at the lights. Sure enough, soon as I execute the pass, he flips on the lights and cites me for speeding. 104mph.

I never disputed the speed. Or the ticket. $1071 I think it was. Thank God for the clean license otherwise it woulda hurt even more. Actually had a coupla speeding tickets that were on the cusp of being expunged and they caused the fee to go up. When I say clean license I mean no outstanding warrants, DUI'S, valid insurance and registration etc. Pretty much everyone who was in court that day had multiple warrants for any of; FTA (failure to appear), DUI's, no insurance, no registration, suspended license, or all of the above. No lie. I was surprised when I was told how much my fine was going to be coz most people were getting 20- 30 hours community service, and pretty much all of them had multiple infractions. Literally me, another guy from Arizona, and a truck driver who didn't have his medical card were the only ones whose stuff was on the up and up. Arizona guy also got about a grand for doing just over 100.

I'm just grateful that I had been slowing down for a few minutes as I approached that car and got nabbed at 104 vs 130.

Knowing the top speed of the Crown Vic to be ~130, and assuming increased drag from the lights, push bars, and extra weight of comm gear, rear cage, steel reinforced front seatbacks etc would reduce that to ~120, I have always wondered how long he was behind me, and if he had radioed ahead for a roadblock....

If i'd been in my E320, same top speed (governed) but could sustain it going uphill too, and with much much better headlights, I wouldn't have been slowing down as I approached cars... :scared:

Thankfully even that ticket is no longer on my license. Clean license, cheap insurance. Reckless driving isn't good for your insurance... fyi

speeding is the ONE thing i've never gotten a ticket for. 'course around here, the curves, hills, critters and other drivers are all "blind", and you don't dare take a chance.

The local police force runs Crown Vics and Chargers. With a 0-60 of 10.5 seconds and a limited top speed of 112 mph, I wouldn't have much of a chance.

SO...with all the talk of is your car faster than local law enforcement...what about those hypothetical situations where you'd need all the gear of a police officer to combat a potential nemesis? Getting away is only half the battle.

How does your trunk space compare to a P71?

Surprisingly, not that well. Of course take the sub out and there's a fair bit of space in the boot but it's not as long as a Falcodore's boot is so you wouldn't be able to fit as much. But you'd still be able to fit all the gear a police officer might need.

I'll tell you a little story.

In the early 2000's, my town was just starting out. Lots, and lots of open road perfest for street racers. So thats what happened. It was fun to fall asleep to the sounds of JDM cars dragging out front. The cops disn't car much, until a drunk driver drove through someone's window. Then they got new cruisers. Tuned Crown Vics. My police friend (Still in the force) said they pushed 350 HP.

When the Charger came out they upgraded to that. Then they got, a sleeper car. It was a matte black Charger, about 500 HP my friend told me. Now we are expected to get a shipment of Challengers very soon. The only Crown Vics we see anymore are Mckinney or Plano Police Departments out of their Jurisdiction.

Now are town is grown up, and the sounds of street racers have come less and less. (True Story)

My car could easy handle a Crown Vic, but not a Crown Vic with a radio going to other Crown Vics, if you catch my drift.

Speed limits are ridiculous over in the Silicon Valley and the cops have nothing to do and a superiority complex. Worst place to drive in the world

Neither of my cars would have a snowball's chance in hell unless it was a very twisty road with no way on for several miles that crossed over state or county lines somewhere, in which case the 6 would have a shot. Maybe. Thunderbird is limited somewhere ridiculously low apparently, 6 has a limiter somewhere around 120 with apparently some variance from car to car, I've not hit it and don't plan to given I have nowhere to legally do so.

Also, neanderthal's ticket scares me massively; I've had two (80/70, 40/25 speedtrap) and neither was over $200.

Not that well, with a surprisingly big (for the car) fuel tank in there.

In that post detailing common police cars, you forgot the front-drive Impalas. They're availably with either a V6 (240 hp? can't really remember) or a V8 (about 300 hp). Neither one is overly fast, and since they're large and FWD they're going to understeer. The success of the Impala (and other FWD cop cars) probably assumes that a: no one try to run and b: if someone does run there will be other units properly placed to stop him. If it comes down to a battle of speed or handling, with no team assistance possible, the Impala will probably lose against anything reasonably fast or modern.

The cops in Wasilla and Palmer sometimes use third-generation (U152) Ford Explorers. Not fast, but they can probably handle some pretty rough surfaces. The ones in Palmer have a few Ford Super Duty pickups as well, also slow and clumsy but I'm sure they're pretty effective when used for roadblocks or a PIT maneuver.

Black or dark blue Crown Vics or later fourth-generation (U251) Explorers are almost always unmarked cops around here. One particularly infamous cop drives a black Crown Vic in the Eagle River area, and he will, without hesitation, give you a ticket for going 2mph over the limit.

Mind you, none of this is personal experience, and I hope it never will be. All of it is educated guesses.

P.S. didn't some guy on Angelfire or something have a page long ago detailing common police vehicles used in each state? I haven't been able to find it as far as I know. Does anyone know what happened to it?

I'm limited to 128 mph without a new chip on my car. So no, I can't outrun them on the freeway (even if they don't have backup).

However, if I ducked onto a canyon road I could lose a cop car (or motorcycle) no problem. But one major issue is that here in LA you'll be covered by 10 helicopters within 5 seconds of bolting. What should be done to lose the cops is to get some distance from them, duck into a covered parking garage (near a mall or something), and ditch the car forever (assuming your don't have plates, or that the car is stolen).

I am going to add that in the snow the police stand no chance. I chased down a drunk in a Rav4 who had just committed a hit and run in the snow back in February and it took the police 20 minutes to find us even though we were going in cricles around a couple different neighborhoods.

AWD + 300hp ftw.

Meh, I don't care whether if its a Crown Vic, a Charger or a Camaro, they still can't beat my dad's Mustang GT. :D

Considering the cars in my family have been a: Ford Windstar, Chevy Trailblazer, Chevy Lumina, Chrysler PT Cruiser, and a crap 80's Buick, if I ever wanted in my life to get in a car chase, I'd be looking next door.

But, on the plus side, you get to experience a PIT maneuver with minimal financial outlay!:sly:

Pretty good trunk space in a W124 Benz. Not quite as commodious as a Crown Vic, but very large nonetheless. And, this important to compare with newer cars, a very generous opening.
