Your Feelings Of Need For Speed Undercover

I think that the last couple of games were a sort of expensive market testing, I think that the next one will be different yet agian, becuase of the fact that the last ones got such a bad responce from hard-core gamers. (by hard-core i mean people who typically own more than 5 or 6 games, i include myself)

Now I am no expert on the NFS series. I played the original on PC in about 1993 or something, I played another (i think NFSIII on pc) a couple of times. Currently I am playing Carbon for my nephew (He got stuck). In saying this my opinion may be wothless. However if The release of the last couple of games in the series were an expensive marketing test, this is quite dangerous, mainly because some (not all) people may play Carbon and others and think it is rubbish and not even bother trying any others in the series.

That would be true, but EA is somehow able to get away with such shenanigans.

I'm amazed at how many people automatically throw this title under the bus. These are the same people who wanted the cops from Most Wanted, & wanted the game to return immediately back to street racing instead of ProStreet. Black Box has done this, and they just condemn it.

Wait til' you actually play the game before basing your judgment on a guy who just did U-Turns and crashed into the cops the whole time.

When you are fed mediocrity 3 years in a row people are going to feel that way about the next game. Undercover has no day and night cycle probably still no replays and you can count on downloading a 25 car pack with a file size of 108KBs for $20

I dont think blackbox has any pull when it comes to the style of racing game "EA" wants to put out. EA should make a platform for their games and stop changing everything every year and making us play with the same cars in every freakin game. And the Story has to go.

Oh dear. No day & night cycle.

EA already explained this, and besides, that shouldn't be an issue. TDU didn't have this and that game still sold very well.

The latter is a choice. You want it, download it. If not, don't. We've all known EA is a greedy bastard on the Marketplace.

Post NFS:HP2 = illegal street racing with high powered cars. That's kind of it. They have to change it every year to keep it interesting.

And all we know of the story is that the player is an undercover cop. It's too early to judge that.

People wanted EA to return back to street racing from ProStreet, and they've got it in the form of a very Most Wanted-like feel, which is exactly what many were hoping for.

BTW, you complain EA is giving us the same cars, which isn't true from what's been revealed. A good selection of Undercover's cars are back, but most of what's been shown is new, and was nowhere to be seen in ProStreet.

It would be nice if it had a Day and night cycle and replays. It may not add anything to gameplay but its still cool to have a feeling riding till dawn giving a sense of being part of a world and not a movie set in a hanger. TDU had full car interiors and large environment to drive around other things to make so fun and enjoyable with replay value. NFS games have none of that and I don't see a reason to compare the 2 games.

The problem is they release a game every year rather than making one complete game with some replay value. Even changing every year the end result is many fans of series complaining and mediocre reviews. I ignored the reviews bought the last 3 games playing for hours and was left with an average game that does not stand out with no feeling of satisfaction.

Of course they are going to show more of the newer cars. Again with an annual release of NFS games it gets stale. That is why they need a platform. Expand the game via updates. Had they combined the content from Most Wanted and Carbon retaining features from both they would have had a much more enjoyable game that felt well worth $60.

I still own ever single need for speed game so my opinions(not complaints) are more than a whisper in the wind. I just want more game for my money.

i hate the hollywood style plot of undercover, why cant they just have a simple plot?

A rookie wannabe street racer trying to make his name in a new town, no baggage, no past, no love interest.

Then spend the 2 years and £5000000 they spent on the plot, an spen it on cars an parts instead.

Yeah so much for the game being like I hoped in post #11. Oh well I might rent it but I dont expect much from it. None of the gameplay videos have wowed me at all. They just need to bring back NFS:Hot Pursuit 2 and everyone will be happy. Eventually it will hopefully happen but probably not until the entire NFS franchise destroys itself. Oh wait or did that already pretty much happen a long time ago.

Need for Speed is all about tuning and making your car faster the way you like...

There was NO TUNING AT ALL on:

Need For Speed
Need For Speed II
Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit
Need For Speed: Road Challenge
and
Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit II.

How can NFS be about tuning and making your car faster IF THERE WERE NOT TUNING on the first 4 games?

That's bull(CENSORED).

A rookie wannabe street racer trying to make his name in a new town, no baggage, no past, no love interest.

Because that plot has been beaten by a dead horse over & over. I haven't had the chance yet, but it sounds exactly like Midnight Club LA has done.

You know, this game is growing on me and the more I see the more excited I get because it could potentially be a return to form for the series. I don't think it will live up to NFS:HP2's god-ness but it will be as good as MW was.

I have NFS1:SE, NFS3:HP, NFS:HP2, NFS:U and NFS:MW but they are all for PC and PS2 so my next gen experience is yet come come. If it really is similar to MW I wont really notice because I wont have seen it looking this good.

For anyone which hasnt tried Need For Speed (1) Special Edition you really need to try it out, In my mind its on par with HP2. The tracks are just amazing particularly the point to point ones. I love the fact you start like in the grasslands and over the stages you work you way up the mountain road to end up in snowy conditions... If they make a remake of this game with the same tracks and take some of the stuff from HP2 it would be the perfect NFS!

Oh my Goodness, OOHH!! MY!! GOODNESS. im looking at reviews and its getting horrible scores. I feel so said. Im a Need For Speed fan and they've been getting these so bad scores. I feel like crap. I had so much hope for this game. Most wanted was The Hotness. I was so sure that this Undercover was going to set it off.:ouch:

This has to be a joke. Please tell me those reviews are just the demo version.

This is PS3's review link

The PS2 game is looking good based on what the people on the GameFAQs boards are saying. One of its major faults seems to be that free-roam is "boring" because you can't drive to races and shops. I guess I'll miss the shops a bit, but I never drove to a race in Most Wanted. All I ever did was cruise around and get in cop chases, so that's still looking great for me. There are obviously a few missing cars, but I'm not too fussed; except for the R8, E92, GT-R and Evo X, they got the major cars I was concerned about (I was honestly shocked to hear the Camaro concept made it in!). I'm going to rent it in the next couple of days, and look forward to playing it all Thanksgiving break.

Aw, f:censored: it. I went to Blockbuster to rent the game, but they didn't have it in yet. Good thing, too. I've decided to get either the original Hot Pursuit (PS1) or Test Drive Unlimited (PS2) instead, if anything. Looking at PS2 screens, the game seems to have some major graphical issues. I'll get it when it's cheaper if I don't already have a PS3, but I'd rather spend the money on something with a surer reputation.

Is TDU on PS2 really quite good? Like NFSHP2 good? Because ive always been tempted but been holding out on a TDU2 release.

I was hesitant about it too. Reading reviews and watching videos/seeing screens on the internet really put me off. But I've been playing TDU for a few hours now and it's better than I expected. The graphics aren't too bad (especially considering the size of the island, which dwarfs GTA San Andreas). There's no damage, not even scratched paint or cracked windows, and the cars bump off each other and worldly objects a bit more than in GT4. No manual transmission either, which I don't mind. Would have been nice for cruising, but I never use it for any other arcade racer. I was not expecting the car interiors to be as detailed as they are, which, coupled with this game's GPS, makes driving all the more fun. Unlike in Most Wanted, I do not mind having to drive to each destination one bit (you can't teleport somewhere unless you've been there). Amazing car list too, despite the omissions from the 360. Everything seems to be unlocked from the beginning, it's just a matter of having enough credits to get what you want.

But overall, definitely get it. I think there are about 200 career races, and I don't see myself getting bored with this any time soon afterwards. I hear there are a few highly technical backroads and, if it's still there from the 360 version, a race track. I'll have to hunt those down quick. And yes, I think I'd rather play this than Hot Pursuit 2, especially once I can afford the more exotic cars.

I have it, the race track is down below the huge airport, but its not really all that great. Some of the back roads are amazing though.

The problem is people keep buying NFS buy the ton, buying makes EA and black box even more lazy thinking they can get away with dev'ing stuff like this and rake in the money. You cant get quality games unless the developer feels the need to up thier game and this just aint happening with NFS anymore.

With all these negative reviews and EA also knowing that Pro Street was not all that much of a success maybe this will give them the kick needed to make the next one right.

I feel the series died with HP2... MW came close but it still didnt feel right.

MC? Midnight club? eh... I suppose NFS's physics is a little better but everything else for both is a FAIL. NFS's physics is like Pro street, but instead of really retarded turning all you do is let off the gas and turn.

It's only the real "hair pin" turns that I've used the brakes but even then... if you use too much brake you slow down so much that you'd be better off not hitting it in the first place and hitting a wall bouncing off and continue on. xD

Just played Undercover on the PS2 a few hours ago, and got to say it was pretty easy playing on medium difficulty. :) I played for 2 1/2 hours and I'm already up to 32%. Handling wise it does definitely felt better than Pro Street, but now they made it terribly easy to turn. Most of the time I don't even need to brake, just lift of the gas and turn in and your car would slow down enough for that corner. But you still have to brake if your going about 200+KMH and try to turn a 90 degree corner. :dopey:

But one thing I hate about the game was the bloody freaking cops! I mean there would always be like 6-8 cops trying to hit me off the road and try to block me. But of course, it wasn't as hard or challenging as MW or Carbon, but it does get pretty annoying fast. Graphics wise I couldn't care less as this is NFS, at least you still could make out how the car looks like. :P

Currently this is how my garage looks:
Nissan 240SX
Porsche Cayman

Might post a video of the gameplay later on, so if you guys really want to see it I could record and post it on youtube. 👍

360 version
Finally finished the campaign last night (about 15 hours so far) but still have a lot of side races to do. I have to say this game actually turned out very good. Its the closest game to NFS: Hot Pursuit 2 of the entire series and its easily one of the best games they have made in years. There are some framerate issues at times with the cops but other than that its a really fun game especially toward the end of the storyline. There are some missions where you have to ram and kill people (cars) in the campaign and that reminded me 100% of the police pursuit mode in NFS: Hot Pursuit 2.
Overall I would give this at least an 8.5/10. If you liked NFS:Hot Pursuit 2 or Most Wanted then you will probably like this game.

Its not bad but it aint a brilliant game :indiff:

Alright I got this dirt cheap from the used bin at GameStop, I think it was on sale for $39.99 or something plus I had all kinds of coupons and gift cards. I've been playing it but I'm a little confused on what I'm supposed to be doing, so far it's just been a bunch of arbitrary races with very little storyline. I'm actually growing bored with it and I think I've played it two hours. Am I missing something?

I like Prostreet better, it was better in customization, but my heart belongs to Undeground 2, thats where I fully love the game.

/wtf, old posts.

How is it that such a massive gaming organization can take so many franchises and singlehandedly destroy them? I only really give a damn about racing games for the most part, but I can’t imagine how many collective breaths of relief were taken when it was announced that EA wouldn’t be taking over GTA to screw up yet another monster franchise. The NASCAR games are a prime example of why EA simply sucks balls. Every year the NASCAR series gets worse and worse, yet they keep trying to "innovate" instead of going back to the roots and sticking with the formula that worked. But what has really sparked this post is the newest Need for Speed game, Undercover. Wow! I can’t believe how bad this game sucks! Take your least favorite racing game, **** on it, throw it down the street, and don’t clean it before putting it back in your system. I guarantee the skipping, freezing, etc. still won’t be nearly as annoying as the gameplay alone of NFS:UC.

So here’s the storyline; you’re a cop going undercover to try and take out a group of underground racers that may have been involved in stealing a bunch of cars (sound familiar?). You start the game out in the middle of a car chase in which it immediately become abundantly clear that there is not one racing game out there with worse handling cars! NOT ONE! After you finally get away from the cops, you basically drive your crappy car around a really crappy looking city trying to avoid cops and entering crappy races... Oh, and online mode sucks too.

The handling of these cars is simple atrocious! You can stop on a dime, and turn the same way, but if you hit the brakes your car takes so long to accelerate you’ve basically lost the race. So you’re either forced to coast around turns or be full on the gas the whole way around and hope not to hit a wall or an oncoming car. Leave it to me, a guy that favors simulation racing, to actually brake when my race map shows a hairpin turn coming up, only to watch all the other cars fly by me without slowing in the slightest and never having the chance to catch back up.

The graphics are ****ing horrible. Regardless of my television settings on my 42" Plasma HD, I cannot read any of the type in subtitles or menus without some serious staring... just pisses me off. I’ve adjusted every option in the game, in the PS3 and on my television and to no avail. The soundtrack blows, the story line is old, worn out, and just plain stupid... Basically, the game isn’t worth the disk they put it on.

The fact of the matter is that this is what’s been deterring me from purchasing these next gen games to begin with. However, at least with every one of the other games I’ve purchased, they’ve at least looked good. EA has failed with this game in ever aspect in which they could have. From utilizing the ability of the PS3, to innovating a new style of racing, to the game play overall, EA has failed miserably. The menu system is horrible, I have to hit X 3-4 times every time I want to select something, the game constantly freezes despite my new 320GB 7200rpm HDD, the career mode is about as in depth as the original Mario Kart, and the graphics would be rivaled by GT2. And while the screens posted in here look good, the in-game graphics are terrible.

Even if this game had nutritional value and I was starving to death I wouldn’t eat it!

Well I'm finally going to get to see what this game is like for myself, I had a e-mail from Tesco DVD/Game Rental today saying its coming my way. I hope I like it, just as its something to do (as I'm bored stupid most days since school's finished), but I can't see that happening. I remember looking at it at MPH08 and it not looking...well particularly good. Oh well, I suppose it's just a game to play to pass time. :)
