Cheap cable. I suspect the full price stuff is what I'm running at three and a half percent of. In addition to this intolerably slow connection (I had wicked fast ADSL before this crap), Shaw is a horrible horrible company. I hate them so.

To lose that amount isn't unheard of for DSL. Most of the DSL networks fall prey to contention. We're running about 60 VPN-over-DSL connections at work, and we're consistently seeing far less than predicted bandwidths.

Come to think of it, it has been a bit slower recently. I wonder if it's anything to do with the new laptop. The old one had a 802.11g card, and this one has a centrino built in one (802.11b) which is only 11mb per second, compared to the 54 mb per second one of the old laptop.

They are an little high... 3569kB/s = 3.4MB/s > 1meg. Mind you, i do have fasterfox enabled on firefox. I have hand an quick look on the settings, and it connects to the website 40 times simutaniously, wht breaks RFC rules. Thats why they were so high lol. I will disable it, and take the test again.

Connection Repairs:

Step 1 - Find the problem of the modem: [DONE]
Just found that there was a software missing in my connection's CD-installer so I needed to get it from the Provider's website. I need to do step 2 because I only run 2.8mbits instead of 3.0mbits because of my cables.

Speed Test: N/A (Connection speed is unstabble because of the poor cables)

Step 2 - Change cables:

Coming real soon :)

You know what sucks about living on a small Caribbean island? Broadband service. In America, ISPs can provide Internet access to a large number of people, like 10 million or so. So they could have their monthly fee at about US$25 or something like that and they could make decent money. But there are just over 1 million people living here in Trinidad. And only about half of us have Internet access. Which means that if the biggest ISP (which turns out to be the lone Telecoms company) on the island wants to make a profit, the price of Internet access ends up being really high compared to what you guys pay. 56K dial-up costs about US$20, while 256K DSL costs US$70 a month! And there are much smaller ISPs who charge US$100 a month! :scared: I can't pay that sort of cash. Which is why I will forever be on dial-up. :(

Hehe. Again, without any extra charges, my ISP had upgraded me. It's only a 50% increase from 2Mb to 3Mb, but they've upped my pathetic upload rate from 128k to 384k, so sending files via email is now that much easier and smoother.

Competition in the broadband market is definitely a good thing for consumers.

i have this awfully slow 56k dialup:ill: and i hate it:yuck: and we can't get broadband this sucks:yuck: the pictorial car wishlist in the gt5 forum takes about 15-20mins per page to load and i went on my dad's computer at work and each page took about 5 seconds no exaggerating and it said 100mbps amazing!

not fair!:indiff:

2048/256k ADSL.

@lthiele: The reason it said 100Mbps at your dad's work was probably because he was connected through a LAN. He'll have a shared connection to the Internet through his work, not a single one for himself. Depending on the size of the company he works for, they could have anything from a relatively low bandwidth normal broadband service (something in the region of a couple of Mbps) up to T3 (44MBps) or greater.

I use broadband. Wireless too.

ooooooooooh i wish i could im sick of waiting for pages to load:banghead:

Cable is to 56k as cars are to walking. You really, really need it.

We just got this new thing from a company called Now Internet. They transmit broadband to your home wirelessly so no need for it to come in through the phone line.

It's crap. Slow, and the signal keeps dropping. The software has had adverse effects on my pc too. :grumpy:

I have a 1.5Meg DSL.

We have something similar to that here, also. I didn't even bother looking into it since half of the year the weather is crap and the connection would suck.

I think it's because my room is at the back of the house. My neighbour has it, and his works fine. His is at the front of his house.

I might plug it into the pc at the front of the house and set up internet connection sharing but at the moment its giving me greif. :grumpy:
