Your internet connection?

Anyone have any good internet connections now? Most of the time mine is working, Brightspeed is a cool dependable company, they only charge $60 a month for the fiber optics which is the plan we chose. It's as high as 10Gbps. That's super fast in my world.

This is hard wired directly from the router, not wi-fi. And this test is from the Ookla's website, from the app on the pc the upload speeds are above 800.

So my 12 month contract came to an end… upgrade time. I’ll update this once the order goes through.

I had Google Fiber 3gb installed yesterday. When the guy was here and ran his speed test on his laptop he was showing 3.5gb up and down. This is what I've got right now on my gaming PC hooked up via ethernet cable.

But my 11 year old pc also hooked up via ethernet cable is only about 850mb up and down. I'm guessing it's just the age of that pc? I am going Tuesday to the shop that repairs my computers and have them quote me a new system. It's giving me so many problems almost every day. I have to do at least two or three restarts per week and it takes well over 20 minutes each time to get it back up.

I haven't tried that. But I do have to go tomorrow and buy a new one for it because where they had to put this modem is about 8ft closer than before so I'm going to get a shorter one so I don't have as much excess coiled up taking up space.

Reason I ask is cos, when doing some troubleshooting on a slow internet connection last year, I found that the ethernet cable being used maxed out around 100 Mbps despite being on a gigabit plan. Replaced it and the speed shot up.

With the PC being over a decade old, you might need to plug in a new PCIE ethernet adapter that will let you reach faster speeds.

With the PC being over a decade old, you might need to plug in a new PCIE ethernet adapter that will let you reach faster speeds.

It's being replaced soon anyway. Maybe a new cable will help it temporarily.

I’m already on FTTP so it’s just a speed upgrade from 150 Mbs to 1000 Mbs

I was tempted for something faster but we’ll see how this fairs over the next 12 months.

What happens if you use the same ethernet cable you used with your gaming PC?

I bought a new cable. The speed is a little better. Off VPN 1200 down & 900 up, on VPN about 850 down & 800 up. So I think it's just the age of the pc that's hurting it.
