Your Thoughts to Mics in Lobbies?

Usually I don't use my mic if I don't have much time to race.
If I have around an hour or more, usually I use my mic.

I enjoy the following:
- technical discussions (tuning, settings, engines, other mods, etc.)
- vehicle discussions (specific models, histories, favorites, etc.)
- personal hobbies and other interesting experiences or discoveries
- playful banter/joking around

Mic or not, I mute others for these reasons:
- excessive profanity or disrespectful/abusive language
- stupid comments/idiot (not to be confused with ignorant comments/noobs which are fine with me)
- loud background noises/loud music/loud kids
- speaking a foreign language I don't understand

If I'm not using a mic and really feel the need to comment, I'll text it, but that does not happen often (texting is clumsy and tedious with the DS3).

I know most of you guys/gals aren`t old enough to remember CB`s, but that`s what they remind me of. A lot of trash talking and usually just when my wife enters the room...
A lot of stuff people say makes me blush, and I`m a Former Sailor.

Mics are invaluable for NASCAR, communicating strategies and car positions acting as spotters, and any series which has things like safety cars as well needs mics. I also use mics in a endurance championship I run, using mics to relay whats happening and find out whats going on helps pass time and makes it more fun and sometimes more exciting.

I don't care as long as people shut the hell up during a race and don't play that rap crap that is so stupidly popular these days. That is the most annoying form of so-called "Music" that anyone could ever play over a videogame. It's freakin noise and that's it. if you play some REAL music I don't mind as much. play some pink floyd, or scorpions or some of the other good stuff from the 80's.

Popular "these days"? It's been popular since the late 80s, where have you been . Everyone has different tastes, just because you don't like something it doesn't mean it's crap!

All jokes aside, as everyone stated, there's a mute button to block the "rap crap".

Oh, I remember these old things. Terrible quality, but they work.
Will be working with them again soon (We need C/Bs in our Cars as we are all Meteorologists). So, crackly talking again for us!:grumpy:

I've done "team races", i mean 2 players per team and the mic is necesary, everytime we do the slingshot we always use it

in the other side, there's ALWAYS a little kid(no insult to them) that joins the room and starts whinning for not being able to use the x1, so is instant mute

also when one of my friends wich is a girl is in the lobby many peopple use the mic for insulting her

I always mute every person upon entering. If it is my room, mics are disabled.
I will say that on more than one occasion I have come in control of a room that was not mine and kicked everyone with a mic.

I'm stealing you're welcome text:)

Haha. That might be my next “intro text”.
I'm doing this too. Well, actually, maybe not. Some people I've met are so kind, and they don't deserve to be muted. Then again, ,I was called "Trash" by some guys because I crashed my ZZII thanks to it's awful brakes. They said a whole lot of other things, they were being jerks even though I was trying to make nice. Ugh, people these days. :ill:

Now that is impressive dedication to hating people who like to talk.

I enjoy mics very much, but there are always folks who abuse them.

Mic or not, I mute others for these reasons:
- excessive profanity or disrespectful/abusive language
- stupid comments/idiot (not to be confused with ignorant comments/noobs which are fine with me)
- loud background noises/loud music/loud kids
- speaking a foreign language I don't understand

Abuse = Muted, but on top of that there are also sound quality issues for people without mic's, making it hard for them to hear people with mics.

People might not know this who dont have mics (because they have nothing to compare it to), but hearing another players mics through your TV/Stereo is very difficult because the chat blends in with the in game sounds. Before I got a mic I couldn't hear anything but mumbling from other players. In order to hear anything I would have to park my car and stall the engine then ask them to repeat what they just said.

One major factor for this is the lack of adjustability with the various audio levels. If we could simply adjust mic levels when not using a mic (you can with a mic on) it would allow us to set it how we like it, and improve everybody's experience.

If only we could mute them all the time by default.
👍

People are too loud or can be distracting, and I always want to listen to the music I have when I'm on the track. I hope for an option to let us use the Custom BGM if we personally have all Mics muted as the default setting.

Usually I end up in a room that has a 10 year old kid on the mic, so I mute them. I do have a mic myself, but I only use it for when I'm with friends. However, I did once come across a guy who was arguing with his dog about sleeping on the wrong side of the bed.

I usually either come across:
-Little children that I don't even know how they got their hands on the game
-Racists
-The usual elitists in the drag rooms that brag about how fast their car is (when they know they got a tune from GT Planet.)

I tend to listen to them a little bit and if I can tolerate it the will stay unmuted, but if I can hear everything that is going on within 10 feet of them they get muted. Some people have kids crying, I mean come on. One kid got yelled at by his mom for not getting off ps3 once. Some times you never know what you will miss if you mute people.

I generally have a listen in before muting when in "untested grounds". I've been subjected to barking and howling dogs, kids humming or singing along to whatever tweenie-bopper music they're listening to and the occasional rager, screaming about how if he gets beaten he'll hack everyone in the room.

When I'm running with regular friends though, mics are well worth it. The friendly banter and funny incidents are priceless, and I sometimes wish we could have them saved within the replay file.

Examples:
1. Dirty nascar race - My wife decided to watch some on demand tv on the laptop, which completely terrorised my bandwidth, giving me massive lag issues. One moment doing the regular 200mph, then the server caught up where I was and (to all other players) I was going 260+, or flying or many other strange things. One of the regular racers was taken out by me, seemingly from nowhere and was heard throughout the rest of the race pleading "oh no, please stay away from me!"

2. Grand Valley - Rally cars round Grand Valley. One of the, shall we say, "older" players had been through a long day and decided to unwind with a little racing. A couple of seconds after the start we though something had gone wrong, as he ploughed off into the gravel. A couple of moments later the snoring was clearly heard over the microphone. The race was hilarious, as we were all too busy laughing to get any decent racing done, to the point where we were all ramming his car to try and wake him up!

A good tip for people with mics, connect it, mute it, and set it aside (if you don't feel like talking). It saves you time from muting people, everything will go through the mic and won't be bothered by people.

I got an mic myself and I always have it turned on,
But when someone says it annoys him I turn it off ofcourse.
My opinion on other mics is : if they are clear ( easy to understand ) i'll keep them on but if they are like annoying 8 year olds i just mute them .
since i've got an turtle beach muting is very easy ...

First world problem (not sarcastic)

Develops a console game that cost millions of dollars.

Still hasn't added simple custom settings free to play PC games have.

Kaz, why isn't you adding more content that doesn't add more cars and Academies?

i race in a lot of brittish rooms because they generally (few exceptions) just host better rooms. most of them have mics, only 1 of them really gets on my nerves all the time.

but i absolutely love hearing them argue with their significant other.

"i'm just suppose to give you all my wages then? PISS OFF"

god.. its awesome haha

I can't stand not using a mic when racing. If I have to type that I'm in the lead, I just end up losing my position. :(

If you have to announce your lead, the people behind you aren't doing their job.

I have made a lot of friends racing online so I find it absolutely necessary to allow mics in a lobby. Grant it that I've had plenty on losers join my lobbies that should not own a mic. All in all, it a great thing to be able to talk with friends while racing.

I always have my mic on. I just hate it when people have there music blaring and you cant talk with anyone else. They either get the mute or the "Can you please turn your music off."
