2. Porsche 911 996 GT3

These may not be objectively the best sounding, and I'm aware there are many race cars that sounds amazing, but these are just my favorites.
I'm surprised to find this in your list, because I drove many laps with this yesterday and the only thing I was disappointed with, was the sound. Just no character to it and I wouldn't guess it's a Porsche just by listening the sound.
Totally agree with all the others tho

It's a pity they don't allow the user to change the audio output independently of the driving view. I like to drive on the nose but the sound for that view is miles behind me. Obviously, I know, but I'd prefer it to sound as if I'm in the car. Otherwise I like the sounds generally. Too much tyre squeal (like every other game on the planet notwithstanding) but the sound of the Porsche 911 RSR at full chat is orgasmic. The Toyota FT-1 also sounds pretty good. It's also the prettiest car in the game, but that's for another discussion.

5 - VW Beetle 1200, not accurate at higher revs, but the mechanical whine of the transmission at higher speeds combined with the cricket sound at lower revs makes me say that they tried their best at least.

4 - Fiat 500F, sounds very autentique and down to earth, I was quite surprised with how realistic it sounded when I first heard it.

3 - McLaren F1, sounds raw and visceral just like the real deal, plus on cockpit view it sounds like we are just behind the engine, which is exactly what we should expect given the car's drive train layout.

2 - DeTomasso Pantera, holy moly this sounds ****ing awesome! Whenever I'm rolling with this I try to race on cockpit view because of how loud and insane it sounds.

1 - 787B, it took them 3 attempts but they got it completely right in the end, it's awesome, realistic and overall perfect, I have no complaints with it.

Honorable mentions: Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3, Honda NSX Type R, Shelby Cobra, Toyota Supra, Nissan GTR Premium Package, Mazda RX7 FD, F1500t-a, SRT Tomahawk VGT Technology(cockpit view), BMW M3 E30 Evolution.

In no particular order, Hyundai N 2025, Mazda LM55, 911 GT3 RS, 911 RSR. Can't remember how the Ferrari 458 sounds. In particular I love the LM55's loud high pitched wail.

Yeah first time I got in that Mazda I swear I crashed it because it scared the **** out of me, took some getting used too that one, definitely not one for a hangover.

Jaguar F-type takes some beating, ashame it's nurfed for online racing now .

I thought the dodge hellcat would of given more roar, after hearing it on the grand tour I was disappointed in-game.

You know you can adjust the volume on that in settings right?
The tire squeal...You could probably turn it off if you don’t like it...
I think a lot of players find that sound very important though.

Your talking about the 2008, correct? The cabin sound is pretty accurate and one of the best in the game (in my opinion). Very distinctive.

The original post says 996 so it’s the 2001 model. Also the post is from many moons ago ;)
A quick guide. Options> sounds> replay volume 140. Headphones on. Buy a 996 paint it white. Add some black rims and SS boots then hot lap that fried egg headlight beastie round Tokyo.
Watch replay in variable mode for TV Cam and listen to that flat six do it’s thing.

Some hate the 996 and most prefer the 997 as per my profile pic or the newer 991 but me personally I think the 996 is the better looking, although I do like the rear of the 997.

I like the headlights on the 996 where as some went crazy because they weren’t round. Yes the cabin is sparse especially compared to the 997 and the 997 is probably better overall but the look of the 996 wets my whistle.
Oh yeah it sounds good to. It’s not the best sound in the game. Far from it in fact but does the job. The 997 sounds louder and slightly less digital in cockpit view but the 996 sounds better in replays, at least in my opinion. :D

Judging only cockpit/roof camera sound, since PD fails to recreate exhaust, my top 5 is:

5 - NSX Type R
4 - V12 Vantage GT3
3 - F-Type R Coupe
2 - Lamborghini Diablo GT
1 - Skyline R33 (IMO the best sounding car in GT history)

Hard list to make, since most of the cars sound good from cockpit.

Ok,
1. Honda NSX Type R
2. Porsche 911 996 GT3
3. McLaren F1
4. Ferrari F40
5. Ferrari 250 GTO

These may not be objectively the best sounding, and I'm aware there are many race cars that sounds amazing, but these are just my favorites.
You sir, are correct.

Take it through any of the Tokyo tunnels . . . XXX

Any of the NA's through the tunnels, F40 through the tunnels.

Im thinking I like the tunnels

That’s the first thing I did when I got the f40. Tunnels are a must.

I think the diesels sound pretty poor. The Audis are better than the Peugeot though. The 908 HDi FAP is hugely disappointing.

In fairness, whilst not quite perfect, all the diesels (from the Atenza XD to the Audi LMP1 and the 908) sound far better than any of the diesel cars did on GT6, where they sounded nothing like. But that's a refection of GTS improved sounds so far I guess.

Aside from that, the overall sound package is vastly improved. I love listening to all the additional crackles and pops a lot of the cars produce on the overrun. I recently bought the Ferrari 512 BB on a whim, and I love the way it sounds. Been really enjoying thrashing it around Goodwood so far.
