There's no way I can recall my parents' cars. They had a lot. But I did take my license test in a '77 Chevy Monte Carlo, fondly remember my dad's Dodge Super Bee, remember having to help my mom start a Plymouth Road Runner whenever it was a cold morning and could go into a long parade of classic Chevy pickup trucks (my dad still has several).
But for mine, although I may forget a few.
- AMC Hornet. Only had it for a few days, then the seller, a friend of my dad's, bought it back. He was more than happy with all the work I'd done on it, but it was still a deathtrap, and the headlights and wipers would turn on and off by hitting bumps.
- '76 Plymouth Gran Fury ex-police car (440 ci engine, pretty much the Plymouth version of the Bluesmobile). I had to talk to a judge about my predilection for speed when I was 17. I barely kept my license, and my dad was ready to kill me. I couldn't take it to college with me, so it sat while I was away. Then my dad traded it to a guy for something lame. I'm still irked by that decision.
Now for the crappy, struggling college student/musician cars.
- '79 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. This is, without a doubt, the absolute worst car I've owned. Nothing but a series of problems and repairs, including one side of the bumper just falling off. It was even worse than the next two.
- Ford Pinto (don't recall the year). My first manual transmission car. Handy as no one tailgates a Pinto.
- Chevrolet Chevette (also don't remember the year). Driving this thing was misery. Unlike the Olds, however, parts never fell off while driving it.
Now for the employed musician to graduate school and real job cars:
- '89 Nissan Pulsar. It lasted for over 200K miles.
- '92 Nissan Sentra. Also went over 200K miles.
- '88 Toyota Camry V6. (shattered my left leg and had to find an automatic)
- '90 Honda Accord. (My parents had it and decided to sell it. I immediately bought it, as I liked driving it far better than the Camry).
- 2000 Accord Coupe (the '90 was old and needed an engine rebuild). I drove this car for a very long time, and it took me through a very difficult time. I still have it. But it has over 200K miles, and I was well enough to go back to driving a manual, so:
-2012 Mazda 3. Bought it last year as my commuter car.
Also driven for a bit: BMW 328i (great), Infiniti G37, VW Jetta, Saturn SC, Mazda 6, Hyundai Sonata (with a manual!), Chevy Malibu, Chrysler PT Cruiser (awful, and I actually got a ticket in it), several other Hondas, Toyota Corolla SR5 (the US version of the legendary AE86), other Toyotas, a few pickups from Toyota, Ford and Chevrolet, and a '69 Mustang convertible (probably the coolest I've ever looked).
