Zonda R

I just tried doing the World championship with this thing, and I find it really hard to drive. Too much trottle even turning slightly, and I spin out.

Anyone have any good tunes for this baby?

Thanks!

I've driven it and its a very neutral car, yet not unmanagable. It rewards anyone who has the basic ability to control the throttle during cornering. This is really how it should be.

Throttle control is important to avoid oversteering. My suggestion is that you use this car to develop your skills on controlling the amount of gas you give it during cornering. A hyper-car like the Zonda R isn't designed to be a car that you can give it full throttle mid-corner without paying the price.

Edit: The Zonda R is easily one of the most perfect driver's cars ever built. Meaning that the tuning you should be doing should be minimal and only for personal preference. If you are having major issues with the car, then it is likely driver issues and not car issues.

definitely easier the drive with a wheel and pedals, as stated above, you can control the throttle much better than you can with a controller, just learn to use the pressure sensitive buttons to their potential and dont use full power round the bends or you will spin!

Yup much easier with a wheel and pedals. Also, I would recommend getting in and fiddling with the diff. I found that really made a big difference for me.

If anyone is desiring to have a variable throttle like the pedals with your controller, then try changing your accelerator from X to R2. Also when driving the Zonda, Brake when you are moving in a straight line then turn into the corner immediately after. The red part has a slight curve on the driving line but ignore it. Brake sooner in a straight line. Also might try adjusting your Camber and Toe angle. If your car is slightly of balance and you start breaking then you can spin whenever your camber is out of wack.

This car is my baby. One tip I can give is to avoid upgrading the turbo charger for regular road circuits. Buy the High RPM Turbo, but only strap it on for oval tracks. You really don't need it for circuits though. I run faster lap times on circuits in this car with the stock turbo.

I think changing the throttle and brake to r2 and l2 is a must anyway. How else can you play with all assists turned off on a gamepad?

I think it's absolutely amazing to drive and steer. Before I got it, I used McLaren F1 Stealth Model, but the Zonda R is quite amazing.

I've been playing with the controller, and would say I have a "fair" ability to control the throttle out of corners. I too was having problems at times though if I was a little over zealous with it... so I made some minor adjustments that have helped.

Increased Acceleration Sensitivity to 40

Then under suspension...

Ride hight to front -10, rear -13... theory is lower rear will reduce oversteer which I like less of

Spring Rate front 13.1, rear 15.5... slight increase to compensate for ride hight.

Anti Roll bars both 3... I think I lowered this too, to compensate for the stiffer springs.

Camber, both front and rear to 1.0.

Toe Angle, front .20 and rear .40.

You still have to be a bit careful with the throttle out of the corners, but it won't bit your head off now if you're a little early and you should also have time to recover easier. I was able to shave almost 5sec a lap off my Monza times with these adjustment.

Anyway, I'm pretty happy with this car with the default tune. But, there is ALWAYS room for improvement. Does anyone have a link to or a good all around setup for this car without the turbo charger to post? Thanks!

Mine has every upgrade you can buy for it and the best (not many i know haha) but before you start to race, go to options and turn your traction control up and your abs up a bit, this plus my soft racing tires made the spin outs non existent.

Real men don't use TCS my friend LOL :sly:. For real though, with a little practice and button reconfiguration (put the brake and throttle at L2 & R2) you shouldn't need assists.

Just got this in a trade and someone had tuned it up and it was madness. I remember trying the stock version online and it felt fantastic. I'm thinking of dropping the turbocharger and some stuff, settle it down a bit.

I manage, I actually prefer X and Square :)

Would rather have a wheel but, I'm in the wrong country, or rather, the wheel is. XD

Yeah a buddy of mine who grew up playing Gran Turismo prefers X and square as well. I got my start with racing sims with Forza 2 and later on Forza 3. So when I bought GT5 Prologue about a year after it was released I was completely befuddled trying to control with X and square. Made the switch to the triggers and haven't looked back since. I guess it's just a matter of what you're used to. Although, I still believe it would be much tougher to use the face buttons even still.

My Toyota Minolta 88C-V (?) is at about 1040BHP and 850kg for me. Hotlapping it around Nürburgring with all aids off (except ABS at 2) is really a challenge in throttle management! It's the craziest car I have found so far. And on topic, that is why I am saving for the Zonda R. It's premium, it sounds amazing, it looks amazing and it must be a thrill to be able to pull off a clean lap while driving on the absolute limit. I wonder if the tuned Zonda R will have even crazier power/weight ratio than the Minolta. Not sure if I want to add non-removable tuning to a car that expensive and already perfect.

I'd say it'd be worth it once you have perfected the control of the car. If you already have, then even better.

I don't actually have it at the moment, but I've used it on Arcade mode with assists off and it definitely is a fine car to drive. Challenging at first (for my driving style), but definitely worth it.

Traded for a stock model of this car and its so much nicer. The balance feels great, maybe its just me but I would recommend not tuning this car.

your throttle should only be used to maintain your speed through corners, not increase it. Braking force and acceleration force can not be used to turn the car these should only be used in straight lines, and a fraction thereof through the corners.

I start with a good base tune, if the car has a serious power to weight ratio like the Zonda does then crank up the top speed then tweak it from there based on RPM and MPH. There is no need for lower gear ratios because there is plenty of head room in the power band. This will also help with acceleration induced over steer.

As far as suspension: camber F: 2.0/Camber R: 1.2, Spring weights default, toe out on front -0.1/ toe in on rear +0.1. stiffen damper 1 to 2 points based on preference of over steer and under steer same with ARB

and as most people have said in this thread. The tune of this car really is for preference, not performance, or if you are on an oval track or road track there are things to do to increase straight line stability, but not to help you drive the car.

It sounds as though you need to go down to the slower rear drive cars where you have more time to react. This will facilitate learning how to sense and control what the car is doing and what is going to do, then you can move up to the more powerful car where you can apply your skill and reap the benefits.

And remember drive as straight as possible and as smooth as possible

I recant my camber tuning for this car...I apologize, I sometimes forget the engine orientation of different cars. For a car with an engine in the front you are going to want to have more camber in the front in relation to the rear, however an engine in the rear or middle of the car you will want front and rear camber to be similar. MR cars are generally well balanced and will use very similar suspension settings for front and back. Tuning suspension is all about where weight is in the vehicle and how it transfers in corners.

Although, I really wouldn't change much about this car, judging by how it looks and its name Zonda "R" (I assume means "Racing" version) it is already tuned well and is track ready, most cars in the game that come with fully tunable suspension are already "optimally setup", any changes might be for preference only. If you bought this car in really life, you wouldn't jack it up in your garage and say "hmmm, what can I do to make this thing handle better?" These cars are hand made top to bottom. They already have the highest end top shelf custom parts that far exceed the performance of regular aftermarket racing parts and are tuned from the manufacturer like wise.

Very well put my brotha. But, even still, I know eventually someone will post a setup somewhere that will make this car go from excellent, to the car that Jesus himself would drive.

P.S. I just found out that this car is winnable in B-Spec mode! Damn it :ill:! I could have saved my self 2.6 million credits had I know this a few days ago. Still worth every credit though :dopey:

My problem with the Zonda is that it wont let me use it in the MR races? What gives, it is a mid engine car.
