Turn 10 head honcho Dan Greenawalt has revealed the latest Forza community numbers. The headline figure is five million — that’s how many people play Forza games per month.
In an interview with Neowin, Greenawalt tackles many subjects. This includes real-world manufacturer partnerships, the future of Turn 10 and even Gran Turismo Sport. The most interesting comment comes from a question about how Greenawalt feels about Forza becoming a “genre-defining” series:
“It’s great to hear all kinds of feedback from fans and critics alike. Of course, we love hearing the nice things that fans have to say, but we listen to everyone. After all, more than 5 million players per month play Forza games and that means we have a huge community of passionate fans who are loud and proud about what they love about Forza and what they think should be improved. I believe there’s something we can learn from every Forza fan to make all of our games better.”
This number is certainly impressive, yet not impossible to imagine. The Microsoft exclusive started off with the simulation-focused Motorsport series and has since branched out into the open world Horizon spin-off. Capturing both the hardcore and casual player has allowed the franchise to become synonymous with the Xbox brand.
Both Forza Motorsport and Horizon are now core parts of Microsoft’s exclusive line-up, with four XB1 titles already out there. Not only that, the servers for many of the 360-era games are still live. What isn’t clear is if the total figure is counting unique users, or if one person playing FH3 and FM6 in the same month counts as two.
When it comes to racing games on the format, Forza is king and these numbers just further prove that. Next month’s Forza Motorsport 7 promises more content than ever, so we’re intrigued to see if this number remains the same or even grows.
One thing is for sure, Turn 10 and Playground Studios are doing great work in their respective series. The Horizon series specifically has continued to strengthen after each new entry, with the third iteration scooping up many awards and pulling great sales.
Just last week, Horizon 3 was the third best selling game in the UK nearly a year after launch. A continuous stream of additional content has helped keep the game fresh alongside Forzathon events. The future looks bright for the Forza series.
