Next month’s Xbox Live Games With Gold will feature Forza Motorsport 5. Announced by Major Nelson, players will be able to pick up the title for free from September 1 to 30. This marks the first time Microsoft has made a current generation Forza title free on the service.
FM5 was a launch title for the Xbox One, signalling Turn 10’s move to the new hardware. Featuring over 200 cars and 14 tracks, players felt the game was lacking compared to its predecessor at launch. As a result, the general reception for Forza 5 wasn’t as glowing as the titles before it (or since). The title also had to overcome a skewed economy created by microtransactions, but this was swiftly fixed early in the Forza 5 lifecycle.
At this point in time, FM5 is the perfect free warm-up for the next iteration in the series. It’s worth noting that this is the Game of The Year edition of the racer too, which means you’ll also bag the Top Gear Car Pack. This adds a further 10 cars to the roster including classics like the 1980 Renault 5 Turbo.
If FM5 is missing from your collection, it’s well worth a download so don’t miss out this September. It coincides nicely with the imminent launch of Forza Motorsport 7 — October 3, or September 29 for early access.
Xbox Live’s Games With Gold service has been offering a decent amount of racers over the past year. The Crew, Forza Horizon and Project CARS have all been offered to subscribers and Forza Motorsport 5 is the latest to join this list. Hat tip to Microsoft for keeping us racing fans in mind for its free game selection.
