Forza Motorsport 7 is IGN’s Racing Game of The Year

The plaudits just keep coming for Turn 10’s latest title. Forza Motorsport 7 has been crowned IGN’s Racing Game of The Year.

The big gaming outlet has released its own list of the top performing games of the year, including an award specifically for racing games. Competition has been fierce in the genre in 2017, with new entries in the Gran Turismo, Forza Motorsport and Project CARS franchises. Outside of that, there were also a few new titles from the likes of Codemasters. However, much like this month’s TGAs, Forza Motorsport 7 has come out on top.

IGN describe the title in a way very similiar to our own GTPlanet review:

“Accessible as always for beginners but crammed with content targeted at lifelong car junkies, Forza Motorsport 7 is Turn 10’s finest love letter to speed and style this generation, no matter what language you speak.”

It’s still early days in the grand scheme of GOTY awards but it looks like FM7 is following the footsteps of last year’s excellent Forza Horizon 3 by scooping up plenty of silverware. Whilst GT Sport and Project CARS 2 offer different but still very enjoyable racing experience, there’s no denying the mainstream appeal of the Motorsport franchise.

DiRT 4 and Project CARS 2 were joint runners-up for the yearly award. Our review of DiRT 4 described it as “a good return to form for the franchise.” Project CARS 2 on the other hand offers the “best choice on the market” for emulating multiple racing disciplines. For what each is trying to achieve, they find themselves deservedly in these runners up spots for IGN’s Racing Game of The Year.

Interestingly, Forza Motorsport 7 is also the victor of the People’s Choice Racing Game of The Year. IGN readers who voted agree with the editorial board’s decision, so its a clean sweep as far as Turn 10 is concerned. We extend our congratulations to the team on the awards won so far.

We’re keeping an eye on other outlets and what they name as their respective Racing Games of The Year. Stick with GTPlanet for upcoming round-ups on the year-end award scene.
