US retailer GameStop is continuing their big GT5 marketing push with a special feature on their website known as “Turismo Tuesdays”, where they’ll be revealing new information about the game until its November 2nd release. Here’s one of their first clips, showing the game’s new “Course Maker” feature in action to the public for the first time.

I think this is a great addition to the game. You could use it as a multiplayer race track with friends or generate random tracks to hone your driving skills. :)

  2. MSH

Interesting: at 00:08 it shows that the top right scenery is called Eifel. This is the region where the Nurburgring is located. Would this be another scenery then the ‘Springtime Germany’ which was announced in the TGS sessions hosted by KY? Also possible however that they just renamed that one to Eifel.

  3. EAGLE 5

Interesting reminds me a little of Enthusia with the randomizer feature. Also is that some sort of g and Grip meter at the bottom left corner Enthusia also had that too.

    1. Digolgrin

Hmmm. I played the End of the Road track (or whatever that long desert rally track) was, but I never heard of that randomizer feature.

  4. CCJ

Pretty cool that the Course Maker retains copies of the generated racks in memory, you can return to the previous one.

  5. Paulo

Road seems rather wide, I hope we can edit width, make it single lane instead. Either way, I’m psyched, 3 more weeks.

    1. Apple Face

Yeah, that’s what I thought too, very wide road, I guess we’ll be able to vary the road width. The variance of elevation was excellent.

  6. Spaghettimonster

i dont see how this is interesting for anything else than point to point rallye events. too little control over track creation for anything meaningful.

  7. John Marine

This is funny to me because I just blogged about my thoughts about this Course Maker deal last night! Now, we see the Course Maker in action. It seems to work quite well. Only question is… how far can we go in the editing process? This video is a good indication of what can be possible (at least with tarmac courses).

  8. Gran_Turismo

*Didn’t watch the video to avoid spoilers* For those doubting how far this feature can go, it is a COURSE creator and NOT a TRACK creator. You will only be able to create a road which the vehicles can drive within and the conditions that effect it (weather/ road surface/ directions and such). We won’t be able to do anything with the actual environment (like in Mod Nation Racers), which is perfectly fine with me considering they’ve gone far beyond the expections we had for this game. :)

    1. occasionalracer

Ok, so you didn’t watch the clip yet speak like you’re a Sony/PD insider…very wise. We have yet to see what steps can be taken in the actual creation process.

From the topographic map it’s clear on each location,it’s hills, dips and elevation changes won’t change. The tracks will be randomly generated on them. That’s a pretty cool feature and just imagine the possibilities…

    1. soLid

I’m afraid you didn’t understand. The track’s elevation will different because it follows a different (random) part of the location each time. The location itself has a predetermined map which means predetermined altitudes…

    2. iLex

It looks like it just zooms in and out according to the area covered by the track. The shorter track shows a smaller piece of the height map, but it seems to be the same height map.

    3. iLex

@soLid: I am sure you were right. The map itself doesn’t change. The track maker just positions the track differently and the editor zooms in or out depending on the amount of ground the track uses.

One would guess that the option would be available for head to head racing and on-line. I don’t think that it would be part of a ‘career’ mode.
Really looking forward to 2 Nov and getting my grimy paws on my collector edition at Gamestop. Will be taking the rest of the week off work and no lawn to mow in November.
Probably will be showing up bleary-eyed at work on 8 Nov!

  11. Dan

Did anyone notice the track “Eifel (circuit)” just before the player switched over to Toscana Pavement? Looks like there might be other course maker locations too.

  12. Sigmaviper11

A Mclaren F1 Driving in dirt? Does this mean they will stop limiting which cars can drive on dirt/ snow?

  13. Devedander

I am curious if this is going to be actually random tracks, or just a bunch of checkpoints and you control how curvy the track is between said checkpoints. It’s the difference between infinite tracks and many hundreds or thousands of possibilities…

    1. Vulcao

Watch the video again closely and you’ll notice that the checkpoints change every time another course is made.

    2. HugoStiglitz_420

“My name is mud, but call me Alowishus Devedander Abercrombie that’s long for mud, so I’ve been told ” – My name is mud by Primus. Hell yea lol sorry I had to

    1. Jakemania

It gave an option to change it…. It said “Sunny” although it was never changed by whoever had the controller. Even if it weren’t available in this build, it’s a DEMO, and does not reflect the finished game.

    2. Sigmaviper11

There could also be a whole list of circumstances surrounding this as well, ranging from it just being a demo to possible having to acquire licenses or do something to unlock it. Or then again, it may be that you’re right and weather is locked in Tuscana.

  14. Sigmaviper11

OH DEAR GOD I JIzZED!!!! Theres an area in the forums where a few people were talking about having some open road races. I think this will satisfy that need. That road totally looks civilian. That’s in part, what I’ve been wanting!!! The course editor will be incredible!

  15. dearlybeloved

THis is nothing short of amazing. I just can’t wait. no more being stuck with the same tracks eh?! I would rather have this than a livery editor as it seems to me that anyone can mess about with it. I reckon i will spend all of my time with this than the actual game tracks. I just wan to create the corner from paris in gt4 with the slight kink at the end of the straight if anyone remembers that one. If that track makes a comeback I just can’t wait to see the damage on my car with trying to floor it.

    1. - Ice of SZRT -

I’d have to disagree… I never found myself bored with ANY GT TRACKS, and although the different variations of track layouts will be appealing, I have my quams about this.

It may let you make multiple random-variations of tracks, but (to me) it will still feel like the same course when I look around me… With no new sites to see, those new variations will feel like a “same city, different street” phenomenon. Now when they say “20 variations”, I hope they’re talking about the “Course Maker” because if it’s only the four seen in this video, it’s going to feel redundant after awhile… I’d rather stick to the sites of the actual GT courses the some mundane valleys… Deep Forests straights, trees, & tunnels, Triail Mt’s curves, chicanes, & jumps, Nurburgrings technicalities, & unpredictable nature, plus many others & those we have yet to see… The course maker seems like a waste “AS OF NOW” to me.

I’d much rather have a livery editor to add some diversity & exclusivity to online (& offline) racing. You’d never see someone with YOUR CAR, & that’d make my day. 1,000+ cars would turn into “Infinite”. Seeing a car I designed in a Gran Turismo replay, alongside many other custom never before seen designs, would be epic…

  16. iamgt5

hmmm … from what is shown, it doesn’t look very amazing. i hope i’ll sing a different tune when i get hands-on with it.

    1. Reaperman

Agreed–a strip of road with a line of trees placed about 4 ft from the invisible guardrail. Not exactly the random scenic drive I’d been hoping for.

    1. Tenacious D

While I’d rather have the Track Creator of ModNation Racers upresed to GT5 standards – or even GT5 Standards ;D – this is good enough! We’ll never have a shortage of tracks in Gran Turismo again. And with 10k or so of road length to play with, you can make a pretty long course. Plus, this can be used to make point to point Rally courses!

I’m hoping that in GT6 – God, please keep us going a few years more – we can have the MNR-style Course Maker.

  17. Hawar

Oh man, I love how hilly you can make it. Catching a bit of air and losing grip when you come over a hill. It looks brilliant.

  18. chump

Please tell me it’s not just a couple preconfigured tracks per environment. Hopefully we can move those blue dots around and modify the turns

    1. daus26

We’ll be able to modify the turns for sure, at least according to what IGN saw. Plus there are tabs which the player in the video didn’t browse through and that’s the section tabs. The one you see is the environment tab, or whatever you want to call it. Obviously it’s a tab where you adjust time, weather, and number of sections.

    1. daus26

We should be able to edit angle, topography, and bank. In the video, you can also see some tabs above the map. Perhaps that’s where you edit individual sections.

    1. Jakemania

What would make this even more exciting? Kevin Butler showing it off, of course =P.

I really hope to see Sony make a GT5 commercial with KB in it!

    2. ICEMAN_ZIDANE

THIS are AWESOME news , thanks

and (maybe) if we don’t get much freedom i think it will be still VERY good and i think they will make a update where we get much freedom
