Gran Turismo “Beyond the Apex” Mobile App Released

i1fim7bAWjanLb

Polyphony Digital has just released the “Beyond the Apex” mobile app in the iTunes App Store; click here to download it for free (332MB).

As the name implies, it’s a digital version of Polyphony’s “magazine” or booklet which documents how to drive, basic tuning principles and guidelines, and general gameplay information about Gran Turismo 6.

car-database alfa-car-details-beyond-the-apex

One of its most interesting assets is a comprehensive vehicle database, which contains a massive directory of every car in the game, complete with images, specifications, and a detailed description.

The app is only available on iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch devices, and the announcement confirms there are currently no plans for an Android version. The car database also only features content which was included in the game at its December 2013 launch.

Supported languages include US English, UK English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Mexican Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, Korean and Asian English, with each version accessible from its respective regional App Store.

I HAVE DISCOVERED A WAY TO DOWNLOAD AND PRINT THE ENGLISH VERSION OF BEYOND THE APEX!!

step1: download the free iTunes apex app
step2: go into your iTunes through your computer (not mobile device) and find the app
step3: right click the app and click “show in folder”
step4: right click the ApexUS 1.0.1 file and open it with ‘archive utility’
*Note- step four should automatically send a new ApexUS folder to your desktop
step5: open the new desktop folder, once inside, open the ‘payload’ folder
*Note- within the payload folder should be one unreadable file, do not worry
step6: right click and click ‘show package contents’
step7: a long list of images and folder will appear which you should ignore, simply open the folder named ‘book’
step8: inside of the ‘book’ folder.. you will then open the ‘images’ folder

AND bingo.. theres the entire book ready for whatever you wish to do with it… a more intelligent person than I would be able to somehow package this content and make it available for everyone but I am not that savvy :-P.. hope this helps

This has got to be a joke! Gran Turismo is a Playstation game owned and made by Polyphony Digital trademarked by Sony. Sony has a long list of cellphones within the Xperia series that runs with the play store (ANDROID). It’s incomprehensible why they would make an app exclusively for IOS… Good job at shooting yourself in the foot PD….

  3. 73xug0

Well done PD, you keep disappointing me, i always was a fan of GT series but since GT5 i don’t see a real update to gamming experience and i didn’t bought GT6. Recently i sold my iphone 4s and got a new Note 3. Now we have this “Great knews” from PD with this app just for IOS, just brilliant!

  4. TamasToth

    1) interesting idea to release an app related to a Sony product on a platform unavailable to Sony devices.
    2) I’d be happy to see a really useful app, which can connect to my account, to my PS3. I’d like to see my garage, manage setups on a tablet, and – dream on – use my phone landscape oriented behind my wheel and watching the (working )instrument panel, at least when using race cars. Or a TV coverage mode to see the run on a second screen…

Well, this is a database, and it is free, so thank you.

  5. sergio_z4gt3

Go Poliphony digital and Sony!!! Not only you release the game on the previous system for the 2nd time!!! You have now also managed to launch an app on a device which doesn’t even belong to you!! Great thinking everyone!!

  6. MerleApAmber

I wouldn’t own APPLE if you gave it to me….I’m not the only one; incredibly myopic development strategy.

  7. nonficshaun

At 330mb, this would have been a better addition to the last console update instead of HD videos of VGT cars. Limiting this kind of app to one OS or even print just detracts from the dept of content GT players want in-game.

  8. Casperello

I know I’m one of the very few but I’d appreciate a blackberry version of this app! My Q10 is still alive and well and I have no intentions of switching to a completely touch screen phone such as the android devices and Iphones.

  9. Jump_Ace

Mobile app is missing about 23 cars by my count and yet again, not every car has info filled in *eyeroll*. I was able to extract the images and data from the app, but didn’t use them on my site since so many cars were missing from the app.

  10. tpark103

This app looks beautiful. It’s very well thought out and constructed. I can’t wait to flip threw the pages when I get a chance.

  11. ReneXXL

Gran Turismo run only on SONY Playstation. This App don’t run on a SONY Phone? Shame in you PD!

  12. Primus Ortus

I downloaded the app. It’s very well put together. The car database is pretty basic though and some things, such as engine type, are not complete or are otherwise too sparse on information. It’s user friendly and has a simple display, which is good. The magazine is informational, but not game specific (especially if you consider the in-game engineering is off in some ways and doesn’t compare realistically to real life; camber/suspension – I’m looking at you…) After using the app for only 15 minutes, though, I had read through everything it had to offer without looking at each individual iteration of Nissan and Mazda. If your looking for something specific to the GT games, you are much better off getting GTPedia from the fine folks here at GTP. Just my 2 cents.

    1. KoldStrejke

Well seeing as andriod has more% of the market. I don’t understand why not on android. his sucks. Just Apple fanboy crap.

  13. TomBrady

I have an android smartphone but I’m not whining.

Apple is better, get over it.

If they’re only gonna release it on one, why not put it on the superior platform?

If they make it for Android I’ll download it but until then, I won’t lose any sleep over it

    1. slidinsidewayz

Theres a difference between superior and over rated. Plus I phones are only mad3 by one company as android is made by multiple companies. You would think they would release it on a better selling platform. Not say iphones are crap. Just saying more androids are sold compared to iphones.

    2. Zenmervolt

If they’re only going to release one, they should do it on the platform with more users. Apple has less than 12% of the smartphone market. Android is at 85%. http://www.businessinsider.com/android-market-share-record-breaking-85-2014-7

As far as which is superior… Both work just fine. Both are stable, both are updated frequently, both have excellent UI design in most instances (each has its quirks, as do all interfaces). I can’t see any objective reason to classify one or the other as universally superior for all, or even most, users.

As for why it’s iOS only, I think that has more to do with the tablet market than the smartphone market. iOS still dominates the installed user base for tablets and it makes sense that this app is really more for tablets than phones. Still, as we move forward, Apple’s share of the tablet market is shrinking too. They accounted for 60% of all tablet sales in Q2 2012, but only about 27% in Q2 2014. The installed user base will keep iOS the default tablet OS for a while into the future, but at the rate new sales are running that won’t last forever.

    1. MJBayUNL

Haha, that would make a pretty good meme. Any word on when the Ubuntu phone app release will be?

    1. OpticZero

With iOS they only need to make one version of the app. With Android, the app needs to work on a high number of different phones.

    2. mykem

You mean the UI is pre- iOS7. It seems that the app was started before June of last year (when Apple releases IOS7 UIKit to developers ).

  14. sind3ntosca

I just bought an android and just bought GT6… oh well, at least i have the booklet… it’s AMAZING!! …iPhone coming soon, come to papa… LOL :p

Or just wait for someone to convert it for android users hahahahaha…

  15. schmocke

Wow, well done PD. Only Apple, ok.
I don’t care since I don’t own a Smartphone at all – so lucky me.
But I’ve heard, that Android based phones and tablets are very popular these days… ;)
However, if the content inside the app is only based on December launch data, it’s useless anyway.
Smells like similar upate tranquility as how they treated the main game for months.
Shouldn’t be that hard to implement a bunch of DLC cars and info about them to get it complete.
But who knows the mysterious ways of PDs patch priorities!? :/

  16. bjosim

No Android? WTF!? How can they be biased like that? How does that make them money in the long run? I’m shocked. This should be released for all major mobile OS’.

  17. FSportIS

Wow, the physics included in the booklet is AWESOME. I have a degree in engineering and I’m impressed by its content. They break down the car physics quite interesting, comprehensive and easy to understand. A great refresh and review of my mechanical physics course lol.

The app is just awesome, full of great content of car and physics and it is FREE :D

  18. WyldAniaml

    Funny,
Android OS is almost 5 to 1 over iOS as far as number of users.
4 to 1 in if you count just the smart phone users and not include tablets.

On a Windows Platform – you can run an Android Emulator
On an Apple platform – you can run an Android Emulator.

So if it was Android based. All users would still be able to use it..
even if it meant via an Emulator.

but Apple – Does not legally allow their iOS to be emulated.

So with this being an iOS release, it is exclusively for APPLE.
Not even a SONY product can use it..

It doesn’t make sense for a SONY developer to Not support SONY products.
Sony uses Android OS in it’s product.

  19. CraigHyphenO

Daft choice to not release it for Android. Also at 332MB, it isn’t exactly small…

Even if it was available for Android, I simply don’t have the space on my phone for it, and I only have the necessities (and a few games) on there.

  20. Racemachine

Wow, now we are having a pissing match with Apple and android users, PD needs to do something big to make us all happy.

  21. SDSPOWER01

On the site its said that “There is currently no plan to release an Android version of the app” which is different from “That an android version will not be released” …

    1. kollosson

exactly what I said earlier, its all in the wording, it does not absolutely rule out an Android version, still, something controversial gets people jumping into this site and I assume more visits = more revenue in advertising for GTPlanet…just a thought…

    2. Johnnypenso

“Currently no plan to release”, means at this moment there is no Android app, nor are the considering it or planning for it. In other words, no Android app, end of story.

  22. mikronimo

No android app? Since android represent over the 50% of the mobile os installed, this choice is completely out of any kind of sense; it seems like in PD they are not able to do “1 + 1″… :(

    1. TeamCZRRacing

Sony gets to decide which platforms PD develops for. All PD can do is make suggestions. Believe me, Kaz probably wanted it on Android as well, but for some dumb reason Sony said no.

    2. Johnnypenso

Yes, it’s Sony’s decision to want to release an app on a platform for which they have zero products. Makes perfect sense.

    3. mikronimo

      @TeamCZRRacing
maybe you’re right, but Sony uses (only) android, so which could be a rational reason to develop an app only for IOs? In any case, developers smaller than Sony develops their apps for both platforms (sometimes even for Microsoft), so even Sony (or PD for it) can do it…

    4. TeamCZRRacing

Johnny, no it doesn’t. That’s why I said “for some dumb reason.” Why did they do it? Who knows? All I’m saying is it’s Sony’s decision.

  23. GregOr1971

…and I got Experia . Thank you Sony/PD , whoever made decision to release it for IOS only. I guess next time I should be smarter and buy that fruit product instead yours.Dang them apples™ :D

  24. hairystig

I kinda get why this is iOS only (to many different versions of android) but feel they should release it for PS Vita for those of us like me that still feel a little ripped off that we didn’t get this with the 15th anniversary edition of gt6 as first promised.

    1. watchclockgit

Exactly, android is expensive and annoying for developers. PD put so much care into presentation that I am not at all surprised it is only ios

    2. TeamCZRRacing

What are you talking about? They’re virtually the same. The only thing that really differs usually is interface. You can run virtually any Android app on virtually any Android device, with no need to port it.

    3. mef

Completely agree about feeling ripped off regarding this app. Sony actually advertised this as a ‘book’, which implies printed book. But what we got as … nothing. Now months latere there is a digital app which is available to anybody. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy that everybody can get this for free. But please quit your lame overpromising and false advertising Sony and PD.

  25. sunshine2002

OMG! I have been waiting this, because I thought I got this with Anniversary Edition (early bird preorder).

I’m very happy! This is actually better than old fashion book. I like the car database search, if I compare this to GT5 APEX.

A HUGE thank you to Sony/PD.

  26. Nico_Ble99

Y U NO Android, PD? I mean, you guys work together with Sony and GT is a Sony exclusive title, so why aren’t you bringing the app for Android devices? Just lame.

Oh… and how much did Apple payed you? Since GT is a Sony exclusive ;)

    1. kekke2000

I guess this means the create a track through GPS will only work on iphone aswell. But it will probably be for GT9 on the PS6.

  27. scobra1cz

Is anyone able to tell me, why is that much comments from whiners under every article? This is not normal, IMO.

    1. Johnnypenso

So are you saying there is no merit to the comments? Android users should just suck it up? Please enlighten us with your rational arguments as to why this is a non-issue.

  28. Ben78

If only the app came with tunes that would make the car great on most tracks, but I don’t see the point of having that on a mobile app.

  29. Efiv12

After a quick look at satistics, I found that in most areas around the globe 80% of mobile devices run off of android operating software. Guess my Samsung Note 3 isn’t capable of running this pdf.

  30. Sup3r6F0ur

Hopefully they will release it for android. Seeing as alot of people are ditching the I phone for Samsung Galaxys and HTC’s.

  31. kollosson

Just got the app, its great particularly the car section. Some people complaining why PD would waste time coding this app when there is other more important stuff to do, I think this app could be done by one person, it wouldn’t take a big team at all. Does seem strange that there is no Android/ windows version, in terms of brand marketing, I’d be very surprised if they didn’t surface at some point.

  32. Lambob

just another reminder that we are living in the age of souls being sold to the corporation.
and to all asking “no android?” this is the evilness of Apple at play, Kaz can’t do a thing that Sony dictates to him. I’m surprised that Apple swayed Sony to do this… They are more powerful than I ever thought. I guess the mundane online sales of ingame credits are now supplemented by this multi-million dollar Apple contract, with exclusion riders.

  33. biffdiver

IOS only?? I have a SONY Xperia Z tablet (Android BTW). So an official app for a PS4 exclusive title, won’t be of use on a Sony tablet?

Will this be the same for the promised GPS feature for Track Builder that still isn’t released yet? (yes, I know Kaz said he’s Beta testing).

    WOW!, Bring on Project CARS!

  34. watchclockgit

Stop complaining about this! It’s very obvious – apple devices are standard across the range in terms of image quality etc. android devices are not. In other words ios apps are more or less one build, android apps aren’t

  35. Metalsun

Apart from the dominating app platform discussion, I find the technical content fascinating. I am a mechanical engineer and found many familiar things. Obviously, I particularly like the focus on car dynamics instead of piping systems or air conditioning. I have not finished reading it all but it is looking like a very reputable personal reference for me. This is just a slight view of the work that goes on behind-the-scenes to simulate your GT6 car to drive like a real one. Consider that you have to model and calculate all those variables that are described in the various chapters, add the road surface conditions then the rendering/lighting, all in a fraction of a second. Then, I complain that the lighting is not particularly good in a certain track. Even before I got GT6, I was wondering about GT7 on the increased processing power of the PS4.

    1. S2kdrifter

As a fellow mechanical engineer I advise you not to use it as a reference in your thesis;). It’s more in dept as I expected it to be and it’s a nice general introduction to automotive technology, but still, there are better sources for this kind of knowledge, the amount of information one can fit in 160 pages, which are typically also full of images/figures, is rather limited. The images/figures used however are top-notch. If the book would be available in vector graphics/pdf it would be very useful.

Shame though they didn’t mention which tyre model they use and how they simulate the heating of the tyres, since that is, as far as I know, currently not included in the magic formula.

  36. Punknoodle

I’ve realised that the only racing games I am interested in talking about on GTPlanet are Assetto Corsa and Project Cars… Sony have destroyed Gran Turismo. So long since release and still no word on the promised features? The game has a decent amount of well modelled tracks and cars, I’ll give it that, but in terms of the actual core experience – the grid sizes, physics, sound, AI, dynamic track effects, it’s all so far behind. And now they release an outdated reference app? Gee, how revolutionary. Yawn. I have an iPhone and won’t be bothering to download this. Sorry Sony and PD – the PS3 was my last Sony console, if not my last console. I have no faith in GT7 which is why I built a PC.

  37. gast1976

    As in gt6
    We always need an update………
No real changes from pd will lead me to buy other cars games instead of gt….

  38. Lain

I must say… the butthurt Android users’ comments are providing me much amusement as I download this app to my iPad Mini.

    1. Ben78

We’re not butthurt, it’s just another useless and outdated app for a useless system. Apple is about as dead as Steve Jobs

    2. Johnnypenso

@Lain…and your smug superiority and condescending attitude towards your fellow GTP members provides me with much amusement as well.

  39. pudge

Also note that iOS 8 is right around the corner, and this app was built for iOS 5/6. And it doesn’t include any updated car data. It makes you wonder why they didn’t release this many months ago.

    1. AbsoluteBarstool

Probably because it was completely impossible. Have you ever tried programming? It’s (censored) hard.

But don’t worry, all of the other content in the database is coming in a future update.

  40. DUC748inMD

Another disappointed Android user here. This is a big miss from PD, one I hope is corrected shortly!

  41. JKgo

I “get” that there’s no Windows version of this; last time I checked, windows is Microsoft product and Sony and MS are business rivals…
I also get the whole iOS push, as Apple and MS are also rivals and historically Sony and Apple always had a cordial relationship. But no Android support? That’s just criminal. I know Android has more holes in it than a Swiss cheese but still, more folks have Android phones around the world, in markets this app is being released in.
I’m sure Android version isn’t too out.

    1. BaseBuild

No, it will be lame when will be released iOs port to Android of this App. PD give us native android app o/

    2. Nando deBem

      Actually…
They could use PhoneGap framework and develop a single code that would generate the build for iOS, Windows Phone and Android.

  42. SnakeOfBacon

PLEASE edit this article to specify that the link at the top is ONLY for the US Apple store, my phone was stuck for half an hour because it swtiched stores when I went there and wouldn’t switch back.

  43. kollosson

The official GT site says ‘There is currently no plan to release an Android version of the app’ that’s a bit different from ‘ the announcement confirms an Android version will not be released ‘
I think an Android version is inevitable…

  44. Whitefalcon63

Wouldn’t you make more money in advertising if you had a larger market? I’m not sure if the app will have adds but if it does the market is smaller and nobody will get rich that way.

  45. KlubbinJay

Why the hell isnt it meant for Android? The most sold phones on earth is with Android. PD wth?!?!?! -_-

  46. Amac500

Well that’s garbage, now I’m afraid the app we’ll need for GPS scanning for course maker will only be available on the Apple store, which would be complete BS. I have an Android, what am I suppose to do?

    1. Aussie_HSV

      From the product page:
      “Mobile Devices
Online community features can be accessed through the iOS Safari and standard Android browsers. In addition, a future update will provide linked features through a specialised mobile device app.”

I have a feeling this new ‘app’ and what’s being proposed for future updates like Community features, Remote B-Spec(if that’s coming), GPS Course Maker etc, are two different things.

    2. NW48

Yeah, this has absolutely nothing to do with the mobile app that we were ‘promised’. So don’t light that torch just yet and please return the pitchfork back to your neighbour before he calls the cops… no need to riot just yet.

  47. kayto101

What the hell why have they only done it with Apple device’s that means a lot of people like me who are on android can’t get it

  48. NJ72

For those complaining about the lack of Android version it is actually more difficult to develop for Android based on the large version distribution in comparison to iOS which all runs on similar hardware and mostly iOS 7.

It sucks, and I’m not happy about it as I’m an android user, but it answers some people’s questions…

  49. NJ72

PLEASE tell me this doesn’t spell the future for the GPS recorder… if that is on iOS only I might cry

  50. fghwe3

I think we could argue all day as to why it was not released on android, windows, blackberry, java….. but it just seems to be a book with car database. Why not release it as the book as a pdf, and integrate the car database into there website ala kudosprime?

    1. Vasja1st

Last time i checked all Sony Smart Phones run Android at least my Xperia Z1 does.
And also, isnt GranTurismo a Sony exclusive??

      AM I MISSING SOMTHING????

  51. Kovu

Besides the fact this app is pointless, I wonder why developers always put their focus on iOS. Android clearly leads the market, ergo, most GT players will be denied running this app simply because they don’t have an iPhone/iPad.

So, PD is investing their time and resources in a useless app, while most people can’t even use it. I want the GPS track recorder now, and preferably for Android!

    1. Magic Ayrton

Because it’s Made for sheep. People who buy products without thinking because they are a Brand.

    2. MLRSparco

Lol actually the whole isheep thing works in our favor, you see you have to understand that most people not only use iPhones but are also on the same firmware which makes it so much better to make apps for than Android users who use so many different models on different carriers and firmwares. With Android you can both have the same phone but if your carrier is different lets say Tmobile and Sprint there updates can be as far apart as a year.So as great as people think androids are they’re still very dysfunctional as is there users.

    3. Kovu

You know – there’s a reason why people buy Android-devices: freedom. It has an open system architecture, with full access to the device, while iOS limits user interactions to running Apps. Apple even disables hardware that’s actually installed on the phone and removes standard functionality from modules such as bluetooth. Not only that, manufacturers of Android devices often prove to be much more innovative than the guys from Cupertino.

Of course, this leads to a lot of diversity in the Android-Ecosystem, and the development of apps is more complicated due to that fact, but monocultures aren’t a good thing either, as monocultures never lead to progress and enhancement.

Apple products will never make it into my computer infrastructure, they haven’t done so in the past and they won’t do so in future, and every developer who blindly follows the path of Apple will fail to place their product/application in my collection.

    4. vr6cas

MLRSparco has a point, I think, I’m an Android user with an LG on Verizon running 4.4.2 Kit Kat OS, my last phone was old and was running 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich OS. In between that was the 4.1.x-4.2.x Jelly Bean OS. A lot of apps do not work well on the old OSs like Ginger Bread and Ice Cream Sandwich OSs. It might be easier to work with Apple and their iOS (iOS7-iOS8) for the moment, who knows, but it kinda makes sense.

And everybody has to remember, Apple is the innovators, Android is the imitators, before Android there was Steve Jobs and the first iPhone. Sound familiar? Before there was Forza, Pcars and iracing, there was Kazunori Yamauchi and Gran Turismo. People need to relax and let them do what they going to do, besides it’s just a official GT app with information that you already knew or a Google search away.

About the course maker, what if they release the course maker to the world with all it functions but if you want to create a GPS course with the app, it has to be on an iPhone, “AT FIRST”, till they get the Android situation sorted, I wouldn’t mind as long as I get the course maker and all of it’s functions.

    5. Kovu

That’s not true – Apple didn’t invent the Smartphone, same as iOS hasn’t existed before Android.

Android was initially developed as an operating system for compact cameras (and that was around 2003!) and was later continued for cell phones, as a replacement for System like Symbian OS. And Smartphones have existed long before the iPhone too: think of BlackBerry, Nokia Communicator, Sony M600i… same as touch screens on those phones. So, technically, it was Apple who copied the innovations from earlier years. Even their praised AppStore is nothing new to computing world: technically, it’s a copy of the Linux Software repositories.

    6. Kovu

even then it isn’t true. All Apple did was simplifying the whole concept. That may be good for the average user, but not for those who actually can handle computers ;)

    7. vr6cas

Really? Your comparing the old BlackBerrys and Nokia’s with the first iPhone? I wouldn’t consider those smartphones. When that first iPhone came out it made very other phone look stupid, Steve Jobs changed the game and raised the bar. I remember I still had an old flip phone with a .5 megapixel camera when that came out and if you had an iPhone back then you was doing something. A friend of mine had one, pulled it out at the club, he had girls coming up wanting to play with it and put they numbers in it, lol. If he had a Blackberry or Nokia I don’t think they would have noticed.

    8. Kovu

I had an M600i from Sony before the iPhone was released. It came with the very same features, except that there wasn’t such big a choice of applications to run on it. The concept of touchscreen already existed, and the only difference is that I had a full alphanumerical keyboard on the phone, while today, the virtual keyboard uses up half of my screen space.

As I said: there isn’t anything new Apple brought to us, Apple only simplyfied it. And fact is that Android was in development before the devs even had the ‘magic’ iPhone on the radar, with the very same purpose of the devices. Apple simply was faster in patenting concepts that actually existed long before the iPhone, plus, Apple understood to monetize this and to indoctrinate its users.

  52. Hentis01

As an android user I have to say I’m somewhat dissapointed yo say the least. I use a Samsung Galaxy mega (fantastic phone and works perfectly for me). I jumped off the iPhone wagon 8 months ago when I saw the crap what was the 5S and after the debacle with the child like OS. However I do have an iPad mainly for movie’s and what not. I also have an old iphone 3 that sits in a dock and plays music. Thats my choice in operating system to be honest but two questions I would like to be answered

Why has Beyond the Apex not been released on the PS3 as an app?
Yes I know it was originally released in Japan as I had it on my old PS3 before it nuked itself 18 months ago. Yeah I had a Japanese account…… get over it!

    Secondly

The fabled GT6 app for your mobile phones that have been mentioned. Will that be iOS only or Android as well?

To a degree I have the best of both worlds but would rather have an android app as its on the device that I use most!

  53. shmogt

lol game runs on sony system which makes android phones and this app is ios only. I’m sure this app isn’t super special anyway. Not gonna bother installing it on my iphone. Gotta conserve space.

  54. ToyGTone

What? No android? Why? Gt6 = exclusive to Sony console. Sony smart phones system = android so releasing it on Apple is like releasing it on Microsoft consoles…etc

    1. Ben West

Even though GT is exclusive to the PS I would have liked them to release the app on the largest platform in the world, Windows because then I could run it from my phone and PC

  55. Seablade91

Well, PD, this is truly infuriating for Android users, like me. And an absurd development decision, like many others

  56. smskeeter23

Wow. What the hell SONY? Is the whole world really going to keep trying to keep Apple from getting run the hell over by the android bus by giving them exclusive content? Face it, in the new brave world of mobile Apple is only about 2 generations away from complete niche, again.

I’m really lucky I happen to have both but the white hot hatred I have for the iPhone 5s that is my corp phone is immense.

If I do decide to poke the hornets nest of possibly getting in trouble by downloading it to my work phone it would be the only semi decent thing about that damn brick.

I would NEVER buy an iPhone, iPad, iPod, iAnything and seeing the short sightedness of this platform folly only begins to now also make me think twice about SONY products as well.

  57. DaveTheStalker

The market share argument doesn’t hold water. 2/3 of Android devices are not current or optimally running Android, aka junk. You may as well compare the sales of 2014 Corvette Stingrays to cars with Goodyear tires as standard equipment.

They should not have released the app until it was ready to run ONLY on the current versions of both operating systems.

  58. dddsprayshop

Hi i’m going to repeat the same:
    WHERE’S ANDROID VERSION?
Sony smartphones don’t use that fruit os.
Did apple made a console for Gran turismo?
O wait, Kaz uses an apple I-phone, is that it?

But. If PD is smart ( oh oh, should i write this?) there will be an android version.

    1. iCyCo

I assume you’re being sarcastic but with Kaz on the Sony Board it’ll be quite interesting to know what device he has.

  59. HuskyGT

Well, we Android users are pretty much screwed then. Not everyone is into the iPhone/iPod crap, you know?

  60. Monatsende

My SONY Xperia Z1 rage quitted. This is real comedy. Wow, just wow. A marketing nightmare. How stupid can one be just to think about not releasing an Android version?

  61. chassy

an android version will not be released?!?!? that is really STUPID!!! more than 80% of mobile out there are androids….

  62. Chunk88

Oh, IOS. Good thing I can’t use this on MY SONY PHONE.

Seriously, this is laughable even by PD standards.

    1. Vasja1st

Dont worry, this app will eventualy come out for windows phone also… Oh wait you wanted it for your Sony Android phone??? U might have tought it would come out for android first since its a sony exclusive, but no. Trolololol

  63. NLxAROSA

Great looking app, very smooth. The car database is really awesome, was looking for something more portable than starting up GT.

  64. chengman

In the fury of all hate they said in the notes:
There is currently no plan to release an Android version of the app.
It does not say that there won’t be an app, but that it might come in the future. Just a little clarification.

    1. binbin90

I’m hoping they would consider an Android version as my ipod touch is probably not compatible with it anymore :(

    2. Imari

Considering the usual results when they say that something IS planned for release, I would take “not planned” as a pretty hard no.

    3. Imari

Oh lord, here we go with the wishful thinking again.

Kaz says it’s technically possible. Get back to me when we actually have something that indicates that they have any intention of even slightly maybe making an Android version. Because at the moment, the magic eight ball says “NO, AND SO IS YOUR MOTHER”

  65. McZachenF1138

This is absolutely ludicrous, goofy things like this make me wonder why I play GT6.
Honestly, it’s 2014. Who doesn’t have an app on the two dominating mobile phone platforms?
I mean, not that I would download 332 MB app in the first place.

    1. chengman

Couldn’t they just load everything onto a server and have it be a cloud server? Saves storage space and you definitely will not be using the app on a daily basis anyways.

  66. Ferrari458Italia

over 80% of mobile phones out there are android. why would they release this app to such a small market -_-

    1. pudge

Over 80% of phones run Android. But what percentage of Android phones would run a new app for Android? Please.

  67. Gogga

Seriously? Amongst friends/family, for each ios device, 10 of us run an ANDROID device. Way to go PD/Sony.

  68. R1600Turbo

No Android = LAME. Got all excited, picked up my phone to download, and read that I couldn’t get it. What a load of donkey doo.

  69. Imari

No Android version? Are you serious?

Way to stick it to a significant proportion of your customers, PD. How much did you get from Apple for that little concession?

    1. TeamCZRRacing

Yeah, because PD publishes their own software and NOT Sony. That “Sony Computer Entertainment presents” card when the intro first starts is just there for looks. If anything, it’s a boneheaded move by Sony, not PD.

    2. Imari

It’s a boneheaded move by both of them. PD are the people making the stuff, I’m sure they have some say in what platforms they develop for.

  70. elliotp

So all hypothetical here as there’s no firm information on the GPS track creator, it was always thought that would come through a phone via an app. I don`t see why they would make two apps but if they add the GPS track creator in to this app then that feature is not available for anyone with an android phone. Which if that’s the case then the track creator was the only thing i was holding out for in GT6, if theres no GPS track creator due to the phone i have ,then its time to sell up and move on.

    1. Gavster11

Yeah, sod the database, but this does make me worried about the GPS track creator as well. I’m quite fond of Sony products so I own an Xperia phone.

  71. chengman

No love for Android? Really? Sony makes Android devices. You would expect PD to follow some logic since they are a Sony company.

    1. BloodHunterVX

I know, I’m still wondering why I can connect a PS3 controller to my Sony phone, yet it isn’t recognized by my PlayStation.

  72. KYD302

Sometimes I wonder why would a company(sony) back a game developer that who makes a product for Sony’s competition only? I hate iOS an prefer Android when it comes to phones everything I have is Sony except my phone which is a Samsung.

  73. leigh991

That stupid they expect all of to have an iPhone or an iPad. I personally own name android phone, really PD very dumb move

  74. Johnny1996

So its not for Android. I’m actually thankful for this right now (my feelings may change in the future) because I need a new phone anyway.

  75. SZRT Ice

I was so ready to download this, until I read “an Android.version will not be released”

Dang!, short changed again! What’s up with the Android neglect PD?
