GT Academy 2012 Registration Opens in the United States

The final round of GT Academy 2012 – the one that really counts – is about to kick off in just a few days!

Round 8’s last time trial challenge will ultimately determine who gets to move on to their respective regional finals, so things are about to take a much more serious turn over the next few weeks. Official rules and eligibility requirements for the United States region have now been published, and all players in the country must register using this form before June 24.

As last year, the top 32 fastest competitors in the final time trial will be taken on an all-expenses-paid trip to the National Finals (the exact location of which has not yet been announced; last year, they were held in Orlando, Florida). They’ll compete in head-to-head races with each other to determine the top 16 drivers, who will then move on to the GT Academy Boot Camp at Silverstone.

As of writing, official rules for the European, German, and Russian GT Academy regions have not yet been announced; stay tuned for more links and information for these regions when they’re released by the event organizers. Until then, be sure to stop by our GT Academy 2012 forum for more discussion with other competitors from the U.S. and around the world.

SO i’ve been MIA with gt5 for while… forgive if i can acquire it easily, but does anyone know how to get that grey and purple gt-r used in the thumbnail for this post? thank you =D it looks very nice.

    1. hasslemoff

Sorry could not edit above post. The link is for UK registration form only.
It seems available for other registerd european countries aswell.

  2. Rushton1996

Golded everything so far. It’s finally available in NZ but I don’t think there was a notification or anything. Can’t wait till round 8 and Twin Ring Motegi Curcuit!!!

  3. SkierPS3

WTF? I live in America and my PSN is registered in America, yet it says my country is invalid?!

  4. See23

    It’s just the USA.
According to them, Canada is not part of North America.
…and still no “official” response or coments from PD or Sony as to why not!
Just useless chatter on forums that we might be in, and then were not, for all kinds of speculative reasons.

I WANT AN ANSWER FROM PD OR SONY AND NO ONE ELSE!! (yes it’s like yelling)

Does an official answer exist? Someone tell and show me, please!

    1. Quakebass

I believe it’s the “US” GT Academy, not the “North American” GT Academy… But yes, why doesn’t PD or Sony (whoever is in charge of selecting the regions) just do North American? I may be from the US, but it’s obvious that people in Canada and Mexico are upset of this… Or why not just and “American” GT Academy; as in North AND South America? I’ve also seen some pretty disappointed Brazilians here… I don’t see why Australia and New Zealand was left out, and I don’t see why so many countries were left out of the European Academy, yet they would ALL show up on the GT Academy website. And moreover, why isn’t there an Asian GT Academy? Isn’t that the home continent of PD AND Sony?

    2. Fisha695

You are Canadian but are not aware of the Canadian Sweepstake Law? It’s single-handedly the reason why most International Contest do not include Canada.

  5. mickoafna

Is this just for the USA?

When I want to sign up it says:

    – Your PSN ID does not belong to a valid country or area for the GT Academy 2012.
Please confirm the GT Academy 2012 details on gran-tursimo.com.

  6. TomBrady

    The registration isn’t working.

It keeps saying, “Missing return URL parameter”

The sign in and password just goes blank. Nothing happens

    1. TomBrady

for some reason I couldn’t get it to work on Chrome.

I had to register on Internet Explorer.

Things like this is why I have both.

    2. TomBrady

Already got it to work on Internet Explorer. Unfortunately, I’m stuck with a Windows PC right now, not a mac. I know I can get safari, just saying, Mac is a billion times better than PC (except for games)

  7. Dragfan

i wont be able to do the gt academy for a while. can i still do the events and get the prizes even after its been over for a while?

  8. DrKronin

“The 32 contestants with the fastest race time from Round 8, Event 5 will be deemed the Prize winners. In the event of a tie, the contestant who achieves the fastest race time [b]earliest[b] will be deemed to have the higher score.”

    but later,

“Winners will be selected from the contestants that achieve the fastest race times during Round 8, Event 5 as recorded by the game software. A contestant cannot post new times to event leaderboards until the contestant beats his or her previous fastest race time as recorded by the game software. Race times are ranked in order of fastest to slowest. In the event of a tie, the contestant with the fastest race time [b]with the fewest attempts[b] will be deemed the winner.”

Is there a contradiction there, or am I seeing things?

    1. Mer1nza

Ouch .. that’s no small screw up. I’d expect there to be quite a few ties with so many participants

    2. DuskTrooper

You’re just seeing things. There is no contradiction.

The winner which achieved the fastest time first with the least amount of retries will win the tie.

They sure do have to weasel word the rules of this competition.

    3. DrKronin

DuskTrooper, I don’t see how “earliest” and “with the fewest attempts” are not contradictory. If two people have the same time, one having achieved it in his 15th attempt on day 1, and the other having done so on his 4th attempt on day 5, who wins? One was earlier, and the other had fewer attempts.

GT Academy has lost its appeal to me. First two rounds I put loads and loads of effort into them. Got a couple of good places. Then PD did the patch and put some cones about and now it just seems more like the license tests on GT5. They’re there, they need to be done, but they serve no real purpose. Round 3, 4, 5 and 6 I just went for the gold. I’m hoping that PD can bring back the excitement that I got in rounds 1 and 2. Other wise it’ll just be me going for gold to get the prizes on GT5.

    1. tacom08

Who said that? WHO THE **** SAID THAT?! Who’s the slimy little communist **** twinkle-toed ********** down here who just signed his own death warrant?! Nobody huh? The fairy ****ing godmother said it! Out ****ing standing I will P.T. you all until you ****ing DIE!!!!

    2. another_jakhole

      ^^^

I didn’t know that was from Full Metal Jacket. I only saw the movie in full one time.

    3. TomBrady

I knew right away what that was from. I watched those parts of that movie a million times. Some of the best comedic material I’ve ever heard. And it wasn’t even meant to be comedic. Great movie. Don’t you guys know, that’s where that whole “sucky sucky, 5 dorrah” thing came from?

Go watch it guys. It’s awesome

    1. smskeeter23

Best post I’ve seen since I signed up here ;-)

Great now I gotta go watch that movie o_O

    2. another_jakhole

smskeeter, you probably meant to reply to the quote above, but it didn’t work. I hate when that happens.

  10. jab5608

Good luck to everyone! Last year I only managed to be amongst the first 500 or so in my region. But who knows what’s happening this year…

    1. TomBrady

Not true. Luca Lorenzini (or something, and lars something) from the first GT academy, competed in the second one. Even if you’re a finalist, you can compete again

    2. TomBrady

hjahahaha dude no, Lucas won GT academy.

There was an italian guy, I think his name was Luca Lorenzini, and a german taxi driver, Lars something, they were both in the finals of the first GT academy, lost to Lucas Ordonez, and also made it to the finals of the second GT academy, and lost to Jordan Tresson.

The question was whether you can make it to the finals twice, and yes you can.

    3. another_jakhole

I only figured he meant the previous GT Academy for 2011. If you were in any GT Academy that came before that, you’ll be able to compete again.

  11. Lambob

I hope the person who wins, knows how to drive a real car, for his hacking skills will no longer be needed then ;p

    1. Yauma9

Probably he’ll get eliminated at the national finals, unless he “hacks” the others competitors cars.

    2. Quakebass

It’d be pretty obvious if he hacks the game in the big leagues… and there’d be SEVERE issues if he begins to hack reality…
