It has been quite a while since we shared anything related to the groundbreaking gaming accessory known as the virtual reality headset. Who’s to blame, you’re no doubt asking? We don’t know if you heard, but a little game by the name of Gran Turismo Sport had our attention for most of last week…
We’re going to take this opportunity to let Marcel Pfister entertain our members again with one of his Mixed Reality videos. As you may already know, Marcel takes full advantage of the Oculus Rift VR headset to bring the experience of driving a car to a whole new level. If you accidentally forgot how that worked, check out some of the gameplay and tutorial videos we’ve previously covered here and here. You may also be interested in his impressive Green Hell lap reproduction gameplay video.
This time we are going to watch the latest Mazda MX-5 convertibles rapidly lapping around Brands Hatch GP, the unforgettable British racing track. Marcel has incorporated different angles into the video and worked on overall quality to blend real and not-real to an unprecedented level. Watch the 10-min video above and feast your eyes!

There’s a drift video now.
Assetto Corsa looks heavy and slow in driving feels, i purchased it 6 months ago, but i don’t feel that magic that GT5 and GT6 provides, kind of you have the control of the car in the limits every 0.001 second instead of every 0.1 second as Assetto Corsa.
Assetto Corsa it’s like tyres were heavys and in underpressure too…
Under inflated – low pressure *
ill have to disagree completely but i can understand that it cant cater for everyone and we all have slightly different expectations depending on our environments and cars we have driven.
With the M3 Assetto feels slow and, again, heavy, not as alive as the real thing :

You mean road cars that are heavy and slow compared to racecars in real life feel heavy and slow in the game? My experience is the complete opposite of yours. AC is the very best for me at communicating what is happening at the limits of grip. Communication in GT was very poor on my G27 and I often relied on visual cues or sound to tell me what was happening vs. FFB through the wheel. I can almost drive with my eyes closed in AC…lol.
I know what you mean and i agrre with you, FFB in GT is far poor and simple than in AC. The limits of tyre grip and stability in GT, I agree that we get it by ear and visual cues, but I think that connexion works great.
My favorites cars in AC are Ferraris 458 and 458 GT2, ecstasy of beauty and sounds !!! And i enjoy a lot both of them, but i’ve the feeling of playing at 0.6x speed (I can feel I can almost drive with my eyes closed too :) ) in comparison with Youtube videos and with my 600cc sport-bike.
If I drive a M3 or a less powerful car, it’s very hard to concentrate in driving because of that lack of speed-under inflated tyre reactions-feeling… and that slow and heavy feeling.
In GT i think that this feeling of how fast is going on the transitions of grip-loss of grip, it’s just ok, I feel it at 1x speed.
What FOV do you use in AC?
I use FOV=70 in AC interior view, but it isn’t a visual issue, it’s à tyre simulation-global physics issue.
I do 2’06” with the Ferrari 458 road car at Mugello, wheel T500RS, standards settings, all aids off (only factory abs) and i still feel like in a 140 hp Honda Civic like i drived some years ago at Montmelo Circuit when i was living in Barcelone…
It’s like the sofware says, do a 0.5 seconds long slide, do a 0.2 seconds slide, and your wheels inputs do nothing during that time… I’m waiting the exit of the corners, and waiting the end of slides … it doesn’t feel like i’m driving. I can enjoy sliding, playing with some gas inputs and wheel corrections, but i feel i’m waiting the exit of the corner because of that heaviness and under inflated tyre feeling…
GT is not perfect and is older and rusty comparing to Pcars and AC but you feel the car alive and you’re not boring in corners, you don’t wait the end of corners, you enyoy corners…
A 570hp supercar should feel like it flies ! Not like a truck !
MX-5 Cup at Brands Hatch, featuring … … … wait for it … … … BMW Z4’s! Wait, what???
This is my only reason for getting behind VR, GT Sport needs to have this showcased when PSVR launches. Looks very cool, I am itching at the thought of driving, looking into apexes quickly checking my blind spot before braking deep into a corner. Finer adjustments while driving will be a good thing you can actually do without breaking your rhythm. Drools…..
Oh, a stellar of example of a great race against AI. All sim racing fans should take note!
The wave at 8:05 FTW! Love these videos, hope we get some from GTSport as well.
Sweet video!
