The new monthly update for NFS is due to go live tomorrow bringing all-new competitive multiplayer playlists, ‘Prestige Events’ and the return of the Speedwall Speed Run/Drift Corners seen in Need for Speed: Most Wanted 2012 for all 3 platforms.
The multiplayer element of NFS is an area that Ghost Games have really showed an interest in improving. Previous updates have added features that make multiplayer easier to access and more competitive and with the new ‘SpeedList’ feature, racing just got more easy to jump into whilst cranking up the intensity. A SpeedList is essentially a series of 5 pre-selected events that can be accessed via Quick Play in the game menu. Players will then be prompted to choose between Speed, Style or Mixed and be placed inside a SpeedList. This new mode also acts as a tournament with a points tally across all 5 events crowning a winner.
To further make racing more intense, SpeedLists bring their own series of titles that range from ‘Street Urchin’ to the one-of-a-kind ‘World Champion’ tag. If you want to be noticed, earning these tags is the right way to do it. See below for a full list of earnable titles:
- Street Urchin
- Sunday Driver
- Wannabe Racer
- Stick shifter
- True Contender
- Rising Star
- Night Rider
- Top Competitor
- SpeedList Junkie
- SpeedList Pro
- SpeedList Master
- Urban Legend
- Chosen One
- The 1%
- Top 100
- Top 10
- World Champion
It isn’t just the multiplayer that is getting some new content in this update however: a new ‘Prestige Events’ system will retool some of the better events in the game with a higher difficulty level and added challenge. This mode is unlocked by completing the main narrative and then awaiting a phone call from one of your crew. From here, an ‘app’ will be downloaded onto your main screen from which you can access the new challenges.
The Speedwall will return to the more organic form it had in Most Wanted 2012 with the return of Drift Corners and Speed Runs. As the names suggest, these will be areas of the map that trigger to test your drifting skills or speed whilst cruising around Ventura Bay, bringing an element of competition outside of the actual events. Finally, 3 new trophies/Achievements have been added:
- Basic Bronze: Win all the Prestige events
- Gold Plated: Win Gold on all Prestige events
- Speed Master: Win all the events in a SpeedList
Further small changes have also been implemented as per the change list below:
- Challenges now offer a unique wrap editor decal for each Challenge beaten.
- There are over 150 Daily Challenge decals to collect, previously only available if you beat all three daily challenges.
- Forced Induction and a new visual Engine are all now available on the Ford 1932 Hotrod
- New Community Campaigns for REP bonuses, $ bonuses and discounts – keep watching the Social Challenges for details on upcoming events
- Improved network warning messages for players with a poor connection
- New red zone on the rev counter to clearly see your rev limit
- Updated Drag Race Outro comparison screen
- Various Bug Fixes and Improvements
- Multiple stability fixes
Look out for the ‘SpeedList’ update when it lands April 27th.

You know, it’s really a shame. I kind of miss this game…last time I played it, it was when the “manual transmission” update was released, and I drove two of my cars and they both had the same 7 gear transmissions….I literally threw the game across the room. That was the most epic failure of any “car game” I’ve ever played. Haven’t been back to it yet…and I can’t play it again because of that.
Well that was a neat little surprise seeing my picture in the thumbnail :D
I’ve also made a video featuring my favorite Itasha style wraps. Check the Need for Speed video thread!
