Polyphony Digital has been unveiled as a “Silver Sponsor” for the Sessions demoparty event taking place in Tokyo this November.
Organized by Japanese tech culture site and community FRONTL1NE, Sessions is an event that gathers together creators in the field of technology. Several different disciplines are supported, including real-time graphics, code graphics, and music, with competitions in each category for entered participants. There’s also a non-competitive category for creations involving VR, video, and lighting.
For 2024, the event will be held over the weekend of November 16-17 in “Miraikan” — Japan’s National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation — in Odaiba, Tokyo, and will include various seminars as well as the competition, and DJ and VJ events.
As much about artistic creativity as it is about programming, Sessions tends to see some rather esoteric entries — as you can see from 2023’s second-place entry in the “Realtime Graphics” section above.
It’s unclear what Polyphony Digital’s silver-level sponsorship will mean for the developer, as one of two silver sponsors announced — alongside digital creative production company Junni — with international art collective teamLAB the only gold sponsor.
However it’s likely that PD will be involved at a relatively high level, and perhaps even present a seminar or two. It’s also a distinct possibility that the event could be used to scout for fresh talent for one of the world’s most highly regarded video game developers.
We’ll be keeping an eye on the event, as it’s not entirely out of character for PD to use these occasions to slip in a little teaser for upcoming Gran Turismo content — such as the Eiger Nordwand circuit location for GT7 in the Sony Creators Conference event last August.
