Race Driver: GRID Available for Free for PC Players Until Tomorrow

‘Tis the season for giving, and the Humble Store is doing their fair share of giving with a free copy of Race Driver: GRiD up for grabs for the next 18 hours.

Released in 2008 by Codemasters, GRID was a radical departure from the typical racing game at the time, putting the player in charge of their own race team with the responsibility of attracting sponsors and hiring a teammate along the way.

Launching with 43 cars, each tied to the three main regions featured in the game: United States, Europe, and Japan, each with their own championship. Players progressed through a number of events including drifting, touge, demolition derby, and open-wheel events, all with the end goal of participating in the 24 Hours of Le Mans at the end of the season.

Most notably, GRID introduced Flashback, a gameplay mechanic allowing players to “rewind” live gameplay by up to 10 seconds and essentially gain a limited number of opportunities to avoid an accident, or going out of bounds and losing a crucial finishing position. A feature that has found its way into many racing games today, albeit under a different name.

While it may not appeal to everyone’s tastes, it’s hard to turn down a free racing game. Stop by the Humble Store and get your free digital stocking stuffer before time runs out.
