Lamborghini has pulled the wraps off its newest incarnation of the Aventador at Pebble Beach Automotive Week. The new Aventador SVJ is the crowning jewel of Lamborghini’s flagship supercar and becomes its fastest road car ever made.
Replacing the Aventador SV, the new SuperVeloce Jota represents more extreme performance on both road and track.
The SVJ already made headlines last month, when it set a new unofficial production car lap record at the Nurburgring Nordschleife, with a blistering 6:45 lap.
With the camouflage now lifted, the SVJ shows even more wild styling than the standard Aventador. But all the new slashes in the body are not just there for show, as they provide functionality as well.
The SVJ comes equipped with the second generation of Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva, or ALA 2.0, which evolves from the system first seen on the Huracan Performante.
This trick active aero system helps contribute to a 40% increase in downforce over the Aventador SV. Like the Performante, the ALA system on the SVJ can vary between maximum downforce and minimum drag for optimized performance.
There’s also a novel split air channel inside the SVJ’s rear wing also allows for advanced aero vectoring. By sending downforce to the left or right side of the car, the ALA system contributes to improved cornering speeds.
Lamborghini has also given the SVJ’s suspension a comprehensive upgrade. Anti-roll bars are now 50% stiffer than on the Aventador SV. The SVJ also has a 15% higher damping force range, so it should be more usable on the road.
A recalibration of the Aventador’s magnetorheological suspension allows for much tighter body control when on track. For improved low speed agility, the SVJ also comes with four wheel steering.
To ensure the SVJ has the firepower to complement the new aerodynamics, it now boasts 759hp from its 6.5-liter V12. Weight is also down by 110lb from the base Aventador S, with the SVJ tipping the scales at 3,362lbs.
As a result, the sprint from 0-60mph happens in a mere blink at 2.8 seconds, with a top speed of over 217mph.
Lamborghini will limit the production to just 900 units, with prices starting from a pretty eye-watering $517,000. Prices for the even more exclusive 63 model aren’t available right now, but expect a premium over the standard car.
Those who want more exclusivity can opt for the SVJ 63 Edition. Honoring Lamborghini’s first manufacturing year in 1963, the SVJ 63 has a special livery as well as model-specific trim pieces. These include more use of carbon fiber and copper detailing around the engine cover, side skirts and front splitter. Lamborghini will only make 63 of these extra-special editions.
You can check out the SVJ at Pebble Beach this week. If you’re after a wild supercar to stand out, none are quite as wild as the SVJ.
