The retro designs just keep on coming. This latest comes courtesy of Peugeot, in what’s quickly becoming a long line of throwbacks that will roll out at the Paris Motor Show.
Dubbed the e-Legend Concept, it takes a familiar strand of Peugeot design history and updates it for the modern era. That line probably sounds familiar. Over the summer we’ve seen the Prototype 10 from Infiniti and the Ferrari Monza SP1 and SP2. Just last week we caught a glimpse of the new Porsche 935.
The e-Legend is a bit different though. Instead of looking to a racecar, Peugeot took a page from its road car history. Its primary inspiration comes from the 504, but other details are present in the car too.
The retro influences stop at the design however. Everything else about the e-Legend embraces the future.
As with most modern concepts, the e-Legend is 100% electric. Power comes from a 455hp electric motor that also turns out a whopping 590lbft of torque.
According to Peugeot, this will propel the e-Legend to 60mph in around four seconds. Top speed is in the neighborhood of 137mph.
For the range, Peugeot says the e-Legend will clock upwards of 375 miles before it needs charging. Also, thanks to fast recharging, about 300 miles of range can be added in only 25 minutes.
In addition to the electric power, the e-Legend also encompasses four different driving modes.
The first two are autonomous and offer various degrees of entertainment for passengers. The “Soft” mode is more relaxed and reduces displays inside the cabin. This is essentially for relaxing as the car shuttles you along.
For the more active passengers, the other mode is “Sharp”. This allows for full connectivity so passengers can tweet and Facebook to their heart’s content.
In both modes, the steering wheel retracts to give occupants the maximum amount of room. It also allows full visibility to the massive 49-inch monitor in the car, which wraps the entire dash.
As for the manual driving modes, they vary between comfort and sports modes. The comfort mode, called “Legend”, transforms the interior using various monitors. This simulates the interior of the 504 and completes the retro feel.
The sport mode — “Boost” — gives the driver full control of the vehicle. Also thanks to the i-Cockpit display, it lets the driver have a 180-degree view around them.
If you’re interested in the e-Legend, you’re out of luck. It’s just a concept and there are no plans for production. But the technology on the car is sure to find its way into other Peugeot models in the future.
