I bet I can get this thread nice and closed:
(note: I am only doing this to lock it down, without a direct plea)
[/provocative stance]
This is the gayest thread ever.
This is the dumbest thread ever.
This is the most obscene and offensive thread ever.
I think this thread should be closed because I this goes against my religious beliefs.
[/end provocative stance]
If that doesn't get the thread closed then I don't know what will. So I'll try this technique instead. I'm just going to ramble on and on about something completely irrelevant to the matter at hand, and eventually someone will get sick of it and close it.

Well I'm sorry, but you have said something if the thread went against your beliefs. As for the rest, don't blame thread. I made this thread for us discuss our views on this. We did. It was just that is started going out of control. If the thread isn't closed by 6:00PM Central, then I will PM a mod myself. This happens to almost every Opinion thread. Its starts out nice, and then turns dirty.

The thread is not the problem. People are discussing ideas in it, most of which were on the stated topic. Why is that a problem?

The only issue I see here is that you've taken it upon yourself to ramble and spam in order to get this thread closed for some unexplainable reason. The only thing that's going to get closed will be your account, if you don't knock it off. You've received official warnings already and you're receiving another one right now. Further spamming will receive disciplinary action in accordance with the AUP and TOS:
  • Off topic posts shall be allowed in designated forums (The Rumble Strip), but it shall be to the moderator's discretion when and why to move a message from one forum to the other.

  • You will not post messages that are clearly outside of the stated topic of any Forums nor disrupt a forum by deliberately posting repeated irrelevant messages or copies of identical messages (also known as "flooding"). Spam - wasteful comments and posts, as judged by our moderators, will be removed and the member warned or banned.

  • You will, if asked by a representative of the Forums, cease posting any content, and/or links to content, deemed inappropriate by the staff of the Forums. Premium users, who have the ability to open and close their own threads, will be issued a warning if they open a thread clearly closed by a moderator.
In addition, your current member title (as of 15:00 GMT on 27 January 2005) is in violation of the TOS. Change it immediately.
  • No hard core profanity. Hard core meaning use of the "F" word and words commonly associated with body parts. Violating this rule will be considered grounds for suspension and/or permanent removal from the board.

i did not know that threads are closed here by personal requests from single members. ;)
if i was an admin i would just delete your useless posts and give you a warning.
(edit: that was of course directed at publicsecrecy)

btw, ghost c,

you know why you can't answer my simple question, because you do not have an answer at all. ;)
i know it is the easiest to base ones arguments on prejudices, but trust me, it is not very convincing and it renders your whole argument ridiculous.

I find this very hard to believe.:)
But even so, no need to make such a fuss.

Let me get this straight. I tell you to provide support for your argument, you refuse, and then you call me out for not responding after that?

When someone completely says "I DON'T HAVE TO PROVIDE ANYTHING TO SUPPORT MY ARGUMENT, SO THERE" I tend to ignore their point of view after that.

i am sorry, but (and i will have to repeat myself now) i have not said anything about my opinion, i have just asked you a question.

here, that was my post:
didn't you just say that gays chose their sexuality? blacks can become white, micheal jackson proved that, it may be expensive, but it is possible.
however, i have no clue how someone should change his sexuality. but you seem to know, any chance you could enlighten us?

i myself am a christian...never liked spongebob (just dont have an interest to it) so i cant say if it does have homosexual connotations to the show

but christians will make their voices heard throughout america concerning homosexuality, so get used to it

we will not go without a fight to bring america back to its foundation on christian principles before america goes down the hole...

Just by looking through your profile, I'm not even sure if it's worth arguing this with you (I'm not saying that to be mean or rude or anything like that, but just matter-of-factly). So, to save time, I'll ask you right upfront: If I refuted that, would you look at what I have to say with an objective standpoint or a Christian standpoint? (And by "I", I really mean "me and a whole bunch of other people here at GTP".)

I'm kind of thrown on that one too Sage, um...when was America founded upon Christian principles? Didn't each state eventually join the confederation or some crap like that? God...North American Country's history's are so riddled...

But I'm just going to ask for the helluvit...

What's wrong with being...
-Gay
-Black
-Catholic
-Jewish
- Bisexual
- Hermaphroditic/Transgender

??

...because I'm pretty sure that with today's open mindedness and modern technology, you can become any one of those.

what about that stuff that guy with the long hair said? you know love your neighbors or something? some people are just hateful bible freaks. saying the bible says bla bla bla on any topic is hard to use as a source because the bible has all sorts of things. it even says you can't be part of the jewish religion if you only have one "nut" (sorry for the use of "nut"). some white supremecists (spelling) quote the bible so are they right too? i might not be the best christian but i know i should not hate people because of their prefrences.

One could argue that because our money has the words "In God We Trust" on it, maybe the country was founded on some sort of religious principles.

But I'm just going to ask for the helluvit...

There's nothing wrong with being Black. Believe me, I speak from experience. :sly:
I'm not gay so I can't answer that, but I can tell you that I have nothing against gays and could care less whether they want to get married or not. What I don't want is for gays to be discriminated against "just because". The same thing happened (and still happens) to Black people.

There's nothing wrong with being Catholic, Jewish, Bisexual, Transgendered etc. I hear people sometimes saying that "money is root of all evil." If you ask me, DISCRIMINATION and PREJUDICE are the root of all evil. :grumpy:

Of course money isn't the root of all evils- it just fuels it. But religion is such a touchy subject, and when you think about it, it's simply a book by which you should do things in general. All in all, the ten commandments, which I think someone obsessed with religion made into a "commandment" and not a guideline, are just a set of rules of common sense to which lives should be lead. Treat other fairly, everyone is entitled to respect, don't be a thief, cherish your loved ones, don't kill other people (DUH), and things of that nature. when you get too obsessed with it things can become quite confusing, and then you start getting defensive about your religion. This is why I am (for the most part) atheist. People's panties get in such a twist about it, they can't even ride a bike. I mean, wars have been started over this thing, and they continue today, and they will for another thousand years. Until religion is A) abolished (which will never happen) or B) everyone actually listens to "the bible" (pertaining to whatever religion you practise) and stop the maiming and killing, which will also never happen. A great man once said that "the day we have peace, is the day it all ends."...but I forget his name so you can all research that one. MrktMkr1986 brings up a good point...what's the point with discrimination? where the hell does someone get off thinking it's ok to base your beliefs on the way someone looks or is born? I've heard first hand, stories where people are in the States (don't take this as an attack on americans, racism isn't common in Canada, must because we always celebrate equality or something fruity like that so often) , and they've spoken to a police chief and have said horrible things about the ethnic groups in that area. I recall one time when my neighbour just got back from Portland and he was talking about one of the cops who said "see that *insert explicit racial generalization*??" and he goes "yah...what about him" (surprised about the slang term the cop used for this east-indian man) , and the cop goes nonchalntly, "we can shoot 'em." It was almost as though he were bragging about it...I was quite appalled. Anyway, what I'm getting at is that religion, IMO, and money, are so valuable, and money (american money anyway- "In God We Trust'') and religion are supposed to represent living a good and fair and just life, whereas many religious people condemn many other lifestyles and therefore contradict their own religion. It's pathetic really.

And that's what makes me mad.

Every time I tell someone I'm Aethist, they try to convert to me. I don't like being preached too. Good for you if believe in God, I don't.

The words "In God We Trust" didn't appear on US money until about 1850 or so, because religious conservatives in the Union forced it through Congress. From the 1780s until that time, federal currency featured Lady Liberty, a non-religious symbol.

Thanks for the clarification. :)
If that's the case, though, why do people say that the country was founded on religious principles?
Where in any religion is homosexuality prohibited? Religious texts were written centuries ago. Wouldn't it make sense to have a rather loose interpretation of them?

because it was founded by religious outcasts. look at who came over from europe and other countries. the oddballs who wanted their own areas. look at the puritans. for those of you who do not know they (being the puritans) were a group of people obsessed with religion. they were advanced in a few things because they actually listened to, respected, and educated women. they also killed "witches" but that is beyond the point. personally i prefer the belief of seperation of religion and the government (insert the correct technical term :dopey: ) i don't want anyone pushing their beliefs onto me. lol someone should pull a seven on these people <;- P

Exactly how I feel. It's like coke over pepsi:

"omg why don't you like pepsi?"
"i just don't."
"oh come on it's got like the perfect mix of ..." blah blah blah. and whats the deal with Jahova's whitnesses? They sure are bent on recruitin'. Mormons on the other hand are just slightly weird, although very nice people.

Rather strongly put but true none the less. If your wondering why you need not look far, checkout the "Gift" thread in this forum.

Why should I have to get used to it? The most vocal Christians in America have shown no willingness to 'get used to' other people making their own voices heard.

i am sorry, but what has the "gift" thread to do with homosexuality?

btw, why don't christians get used to homosexuality? then, a lot problems would simply vanish.

Whoah whoah WHOAH. What the hell does THAT mean?

Forgive me for jumping to conclusions if I am, but you do know that AIDS isn't the "gay disease" anymore, right? They proved that theory incorrect over a decade ago...

I don't know about how your head works, but I never let the actions of one group speak for everyone.

Because its called "freedom of speech". He didn't say you had to like it.
