Nurburgring Race Series Week 5 (Nissan Skyline R34 GTR M Spec NUR)

Kolyana
Good run Goixoye, you got a better time than me with less effort, it seems ... this week has been TOUGH for me and even though my T10 is faster, it came at too much time and my ending was week, so I *know* can can be faster overall. I feel you - yet again - breathing down my neck!
I *think* I can do better but I'm not going to invest 2 1/2 more hours to get it. It got so frustrating that I just wanted a clean lap....your T10 was tempting me to try some more...but of course I know that if I do you'll improve your time as well.

Today i will be able to take 2 session with this combo - as setap B i will use vt settings and Watson settings as setup C - i will see what can i get with those...
Post edit after some new T times
I wonder - run with ghost or without .. ;-)

Haven't had much time to run this week. Finally got my first clean lap tonight. This was done using VT's settings, which feel very good 👍

T1: 0'46.099
T2: 1'21.822

T3: 1'51.308
T4: 2'44.283
T5: 3'23.743
T6: 3'51.272
T7: 4'43.684
T8: 5'27.808
T9: 5'50.773
T10: 6'35.733
T11: 6'59.714

Managed a slight improvement :

T10 - 6.38.782

That was with a couple of dodgy corners , If I ever string a perfect lap
together around this place, you folks on the other side of the world would hear the
cheering I'm sure.

Try to give this another go, seeing as how submissions are due 24 hours later than
the norm, though I think it will be hard to go much quicker. ( for me)

Very very close around the middle of the NRS leaderboard, that last sector is going
to be crucial. Good luck everyone in those final laps 👍.

I took a whirl with the softer settings (f:110 r:110 | f:8 r:8 | f:3.0 r:1.0)
Any squishier and it starts getting bad brake dive, and any higher and oversteer from left-right transitions seems to be too pronounced; so this is definately the best comprimise of supple but fast i can come up with.

new time still has plenty of mistakes... but clean:

45.445
1'20.678
1'50.062
2'42.063
3'20.839
3'48.463
4'39.904
5'22.606
5'44.548
6'27.370

I'd be *happy* with 6'25 in T10... but don't think i'll have time this weekend to iron out my mistakes.
i figure if you're "on pace" you should be doing:
45.1, 1'20.4, 1'49.4, 2'41, 3'19, 3'46, 4'37, 5'20, 5'42, 6'24

cheers.

T10: 6'38.006

Not a bad ending, but it could have been cleaner. I actually took a slight off road excursion at one point, so if I could nail this and tidy up the ending, it could be a half decent lap (for me).

because we're haniding in times a little later this week, I'll re-run tomorrow to see if i can nail this sucker.

Running out of time for myself but I've got my T10 down to 6'35.366. I am liking how this car handles. Just enough oversteer to swing the back end into line after a corner.

What's up guys and Nat? Submitted this time. I think T10 was in the 6'40s, so I'll be at the bottom again I think. I had several laps just behind Dr. Watsons splits but then I'd go off-roading somewhere after T8.

Found some time for a few more laps. I already submitted my other time. Maybe Dave will allow it. Sorry for any inconvenience.

T10: 6'37.622 (-3.161)
Final: -2.839

I guess I wanted the clean lap so bad I got a little too conservative at the end and left 0.322. But I was really happy to be able to trim almost 3s. 235.9 miles total now so I ran 61.8 more miles but only 2 more full laps.

Koly, I really wasn't planning on running any more laps but I was so close I just had to try. Now you've got a new target to shoot at. Let's see what ya got.

Time submited.
Unfortunately not so fast time :/
I have been really slow at some points just to ceep lap clean :(
Settings: 108/108 2/2 no TCS and ASM
T times:

T1: 46.302
T2: 1.21.865
T3: 1.51.429
T4: 2.44.190
T5: 3.24.290
T6: 3.52.307
T7: 4.44.096
T8: 5.29.154
T9: 5.51.829
T10: 6.37.641

Well, that's the best i can do... i think its a considerably good time for me, although i know i can push another 5 seconds off, but the clean lap issue is in the way. I still don't understand how you guys can manage a 6'30 at T10 but hell.

Funny thing is, my T1: and T10 are slower then on my original tries, but my final time is better by 2 seconds... So i guess i was really slow in those last corners there...

T1: 0'47.741
T2: 1'23.797
T3: 1'53.583
T4: 2'47.414
T5: 3'28.402
T6: 3'57.129
T7: 4'50.420
T8: 5'35.875
T9: 5'59.931
T10: 6'47.737

Goixoye, you're killing me man!!! I was going to run today just to see if I could measure up to my own standards, but now you've definitively shown me how it should be done! Oh lordy, here we go.

EDIT:
T10: 6:37.215

I'm going to submit this time ... I could spend more track time trying to shave off a little more here and a little more there, and there were a couple of corners where I dropped time for sure, but ultimately I can leave that sort of thing for future races ... as long as I get a little better as the season goes on, that's what it is all about, right?

So, yeah, let's go with this :)

It's going to be *real* close in the middle of the pack here.

200.5 exactly (just checked). You?

And it's damned close here in the middle of the pack ... tenths at T10 is nothing ... *so* much can be gained or lost on that long straight (depending on entry speed) and the final few corners ... this will be going down to the wire, for sure 👍

235.9 So more miles for me and yet you're still better.

I noticed during my first session I became frustrated and just began trying to get a competitive clean lap (174.1 miles for the session). Then, for fun, I decided to give it another shot and in just 61.8 more miles I got the time I have posted. I was relaxed and didn't really have any expectations and the next thing I know I'm hitting the splits 2 and 3 seconds quicker. Unfortunately I did come out of the Karussell, my only significant mistake on the lap. Evidently, for me, DWF (Driving While Frustrated) doesn't work too well.

Maybe I should have a few drinks to loosen me up and see how DWI (DUI, whatever they call it) works. That would make an interesting series...

Alas, didnt manage to go any faster so submitting my time now.
Ended up with 287 km on the oddometer, and I'm pretty happy
with the final result.:)
Had a blast driving this beasty. Those close times kept me fired up,
thanks for posting splits folks 👍. See you all at the finish 👍

Steve

submitted my time as well... think i clocked up ~380mi after three sessions over the week.

I don't do well Driving While Infuriated, but it tends to be my all-too-common state of mind when I'm chasing a ghost or a split I can feeeeeeeeeeeel, but can't quite reach. I'm even worse Driving While Nervous, because when I do get the lap I want, my heart starts to pound, my hands shake and I invariably lose it on the next corner ... and thus we re-enter the DWI zone.

Like Goixoye, I drive best when relaxed and not really thinking about it ... I cna nail my best laps first thing in the morning, when I have the whole day ahead of me, there's no rush and my body hasn't quite woke up yet :)

My MNP reference only a few old time WRS fans will 'get'. The last time we had a Skyline over there we essentially got a choice of *any* skyline at Motegi West, and while popular consensus went with pretty much 1 or 2 cars, I chose the MNP Edition because it's so damn pretty. I hauled that fat a$$ into 2nd place (D3), refusing to go with the quicker car, because it was uglier :P
Yes, I remember that week. I don't know if I ended up submitting a time or not because I spent so much time trying different cars.

It was actually the first time I had driven a Skyline in GT. All through GT3 and, up to that point, in GT4 I had just stayed away from them. I just wasn't interested. So when I started driving them and they seemed to suck I was kind of confused because I'd always heard they were great cars. Turns out I was picking all the crappy ones with terrible understeer!

In the end, I decided I didn't like Skylines (why I didn't run NRS this week) but that if I had to drive one it would be the R33 N1 '95. I ended up quite liking that car but it remains tainted by its understeering siblings.

What I should have done was take one of the 80's FR models and submit a time that was sure to be at the bottom of the list. ;)

I just wanted to say that I am a little concerned, or disappointed rather, that some of the modifications we are doing to the cars (port polish, weight reduction) cannot be undone.
I'm also questioning the purpose of the irreversible modifications. Its a lot of money for not much extra performance and can permanently alter a car that I perhaps liked just the way it was.

Could we do without them, for future races?

I **think** in addition to the small HP bump the port polish and/or engine balancing may alter the redline.

Money is so easy to make in GT4 I don't see where it makes a difference that these mod are expensive for the HP gain. If you don't like the permanent change sell the car after the race and buy another one. If we aren't going to do "permanent" changes should we not change the oil either?

I guess I really don't care either way. Maybe Dave is shooting for a HP target that needs these particular mods. Maybe Dave could let us know his reasons.

Of course Dave could let you know his reasons!

As we all know the power is rising each week in the NRS along with the level of suspension tuning and tyre choices, my reasons for settling on the power figures i do is to try and keep the power to weight ratio moving up steadily each week as it has done so far.

Taking a car and tuning it with a stage 1 turbo for example will give a immediate horsepower increase for sure, and yes that stage 1 turbo can be removed later if you dont want it. However the parts im picking are increasing the driveability of the car, vital around the Nurburgring. Port polish and engine balance combined with a chip upgrade allows the engine to breath better whilst not losing torque low down and gains a few extra RPM in the high rev range. Uprated clutch's and flywheels all help get the power down onto the road and reducing weight helps the cars dynamics considerably.

Regarding the cost, is it really an issue in GT4? I have already mentioned in previous threads that some money will be required to purchase cars for ongoing weeks of the NRS as obviously the more exotic stuff costs more, a couple of special conditions races will take 20 mins and reward you with 250,000 credits or leaving B spec on El capitan enduro will gain you a Minolta to sell for a lot more.

I didnt think the money was so much of an issue really as its so easy to come by, as Goixoye says just sell the car and get another one if you dont like it after the NRS has finished..

I chose to take the other option of spending £25 UKpounds on a Maxdrive and spare memory card and downloaded a full gamesave so im not short of cars or money for the NRS/WRS and also have a way of uploading replays, Some weeks i buy several colours of the same car if i have time to give variety in the photos i post of them!!

Im sorry its an issue but i hope you can see where im coming from with the engine tuning and also hope the time can be found by all to raise the funds to run the NRS. I cant please everyone all the time and know this :indiff: , i just hope its being enjoyed by some and that most people can see the thought process and the benefit behind it 👍

thanks

Thanks for the explination, Dave. I asked partially for myself but also partially for anyone else who is wondering.

As for the money issue, it's not a real concern in terms of NRS. I shouldn't have even mentioned it. But let me explain something...

Maybe I'm a super-nerd about this, but I kind of treat my GT Mode game like an RPG. I make up goals such as buying a particular car or making a certain amount of money and then decide on how I'm going to do it. I try not to repeat races just for the sake of making money, so I usually pick a new series that I haven't done yet and build an appropriate car to give me a decent chance at winning.

I set up my car such that I might have a slim chance of winning but expect to get 4th or 5th place. After losing the first time through, I either change cars and try again or head to the tune shop for upgrades. It can take quite a while but this is how I like to play.

So, just getting the car for NRS is part of the game, for me.

I see....seems like the best idea may be to get a second mem card maybe? I have kept my original game save just for the reasons you mention but have since decided that when the NRS is finsished im going to wipe it and restart anyway using my new found knowledge since starting OLR......Just remember that the mods i choose wont detract from the cars performance and are what i consider the proper way to tune, reduce weight and get the engine basics right before turbo charging is needed etc...

regards

Dave
