It seems fiat has tried to muscle in on the success of the Hummer brand, by attempting to make their own. Fiat? Maker of the punto? Make a hummer?

Yes.

With the help of their van division, Iveco, they've managed to produce this:

It's called the Oltre, and is based on the Iveco LMV -

According to the auto express, it has a six speed auto gearbox, threee lockable differencials, and is capable of climbing a 40% gradient. Also, due to it's 50cm ground clearance, it can wade through rivers 85cm deep. It does all ths using a 3.0 litre turbodiesel delivering 185bhp.

I really can't see this rivalling Hummer. It looks like they've brought a Lego RC car to life, and stuck some chrome wheels on it. I also can't see people wanting to a hummer rival with mainly punto switchgear either. But, who knows. Maybe it'll sell like lego at christmas.

Holy God! That thing is hideous and looks like a Lego car! And I smell a lawsuit coming.

Also GM sold off the Fiat group, the was a bunch of problems with it if I recall correctly.

I must be way out of the loop on things... When did lego start building trucks? I mean sure they have built things like http://cache.lego.com/images/shop/prod/10156-0000-XX-12-1.jpg AND they even tried out F1 http://www.kaleidoshop.de/produktkatalog/produktgrafiken/lego-racers-ferrari-truck.jpg But i just dont see how they can go from this http://www.ken-tucky.com/LEGO/WORKS/IMAGE/0030.gif to this http://www.autowereld.com/imagesDB/640/5121145958156_oltre.jpg

It also seems DUB magizine has bought stock in plastic building blocks...

Why? If Hummer could sue Fiat for making this than Lamborghini can sue Hummer for making the Hummer. That reminds me...

? Freaky.

The hummer looks nothing like that Lambo thing, but that Fiat thing looks like the Lego H2.

But what I think you were saying (correct me if you weren't) was that Hummer could sue Fiat for making this...thing, when this Fiat Thing (it's new name) looks remarkably like the Lambo LM002, which was made before the Hummer H1 was, which in turn means that Lambo can sue both of them.

The Fiat thing looks like the Hummer, the Hummer looks nothing like the Lambo thing. GM would have a slight case against Fiat but I highly doubt they will do anything.

How does the Hummer look nothing like the Lambo but still looks enough like the Fiat that Hummer can have a case against them?

The Fiat looks almost exactly like the LM002. If the Fiat looks like a Hummer than a Hummer looks like an LM002. All I was saying was that niether this Fiat looks nothing like a Hummer and a Hummer looks nothing like an LM002, and if Hummer wants to sue Fiat than Lambo can sue Hummer, because the LM002 looks almost exactly like this Fiat other than the hood (as this doesn't have a V12 in it like the LM002 does).

I don't think the Fiat looks like the Lambo thing, the Fiat looks just like an H2, not and H1.

The HMMWV was made before the LM002. I did some research to back this up.

The HMMWV:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMMWV
"In the 1970s, the United States Army concluded that the militarized civilian trucks in use no longer satisfied their requirements. In 1979, the Army drafted specifications for a High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle, or HMMWV. In July of that year, AM General began preliminary design work, and less than a year later, the first prototype, the M998, was in testing.

In June 1981, the Army awarded AM General a contract for development of several more prototype vehicles to be delivered to the U.S. government for another series of tests, and the company was later awarded the initial production contract for 55,000 HMMWVs to be delivered in 1985. HMMWVs first saw combat in the Persian Gulf Conflict of 1990-91."

Heres some on the LM002:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamborghini_LM002
"The Lamborghini LM002 is an SUV that was built by the Lamborghini automobile company between 1986 and 1993. Approximately 300 vehicles are thought to have been built. This was an unusual departure for Lamborghini who, until that point was primarily known for high-performance grand tourers and supercars.

The project originally began in 1977 with a prototype vehicle codenamed the "Cheetah" which Lamborghini had designed in hopes of selling it to the US military. The original Cheetah prototype had a Chrysler V8 engine but was destroyed during testing by the US military. The LM002 was an updated version of the original Cheetah fitted with the same V12 engine seen in the Lamborghini Countach. Libyan leader Muammar al-Qaddafi reportedly ordered 100 of them for the use of Libya's military."

Just to be fair I did some research on the "Cheetah".
http://people.mail2me.com.au/~bertrand/bitland/fullsize/lamborghini_cheetah.htm
"Some of the MIT personel behind the Cheetah, had previously worked on the FMC XR311, a car that bears more than a passing resemblance. Under the threat of legal action, the Cheetah was dropped by Lamborghini, and the only Cheetah built was destroyed in a testing crash. The FMC XR311 ultimately lead to the development of the HMMWV or Hummer."

So if anyone could sue over the rights to the shape it would be GM and AM General.

DUDE! I would TOTALLY buy one. I'm dead serious. Long as it's like 10k.

its a vicious circle....

hahahahahahaaa what a lame car!!!
I was about to say it look like it's made out of lego until I saw Sjenk's post. They must have thought "hey lets make it look all tough by putting in as many squares as we can". God what a pile of crap.

It does look like a lego car.
FIAT can make good 4x4s though...
FIAT Sedici (16) (4x4=16, get it!?)

Didn't have too bad reviews in the Daily Telegraph motoring section.

FIAT Panda 4x4

Very well acclaimed budget off roader. It might not have the ground clearence but it still very capable.
