The Range Stormer handles like a neutral handling AC Cobra: it can take any corner, but to get it started takes time.

Not after I've finished with it, oh this thing is fun, dangerous, but fun.

Just so you guys don't think im a deadbeat member, I HAVE tested and created settings for my next car but have not taken pics or photoshopped. Classes are getting into the swing of things so Im guessing you can expect a report come tomorrow.

Don't worry about it, I know exactly how hard it is to find the time to put together a good report.

As Duck once wisely said to me, quality is better than quantity.

Car-Dodge Neon SRT4

DF Time-1:15.159
Report-

neonbanner4ff.jpg

Introduction- This time I decided to test drive a Dodge Neon srt4, with a little tuning. A blazingly fast little car, faster than most of the FR’s I have driven, of course it has its draw backs, but a major feet of engineering on Dodge’s part. With its size, consider it a go-kart with over 500hp, after tuning of course, think realistically now.

neon35dd.jpg

The worth- Two most useful things, nimbleness/power! The car feels like it is made of soda-can grade aluminum, and I’m sure it feels like it in a wreck too. Though as long as GT has no damage, you are safe. It definitely corners great, only a little interference from the Devilish idea of front wheel drive. I noticed a useful pattern of Fast-in, slow-middle, fast-out for the turns, a great method for FF and AWD cars. The thing that really makes this car shine is its straight power, almost 1,800,667,986 hp worth (close estimate of actual power). So with the engine seated firmly over the drive train, you are able to floor it out of the turns and power down the straights. Another thing that helps is the brake power/weight ratio. Some small cars have very small and relatively underpowered braking systems. The neon however, has a well balanced (after tuning) and powerful brake system.

neon44yf.jpg

The worthless- Not much to complain about really, considering it is a FF car. Slight bit of under steer due to drive train, but well tamed by the low weight. I did notice more front wheel push with a stiff suspension, and too much body roll with a soft one, I believe I found a good happy medium, but body roll can still be a factor. Other than that, absolutely no disappointments.

neon52si.jpg

Outro- A pleasantly speedy tin can with no lack of power. I think that one thing Dodge could fix however, is a problem that has been with this car for years, and known well throughout amateur racing circuits, the curse that is the very high roof height of the car. Really raises center of gravity and causes much frustration when tuning to try and find the right suspension settings for good steering. Just a small thing that some body re-working could fix. Enjoy this great car, its cheap, its fun to drive, and it’s a real contender in its class and others.

Great review, and great pics. The third big one looks like the SRT-4 is brewing up a hell-raising storm. :dopey: You came back with a good bang to start it off. 👍

Good report, okay pics, not really feeling the yellow.
leave it to the polak to be discouraging, and i thought you liked the yeller civic's, quit changing yo mind. But thx duck, and i'll be updating weekly now, weekends, or beginning of weeks, next week is the semi-hemi dodge.

Sorry guys, I’m throwing a MKthreeGTi and changing cars. :ouch:

Very nice report 440cuda9sec! Some of your photos look really awesome! 👍 Although, from front-on the car looks kinda cross-eyed!

Nice report 440, good pics and again a car I would not have picked. Mainly because the UK doesn't get a decent version of the Neon.

Our 'hotest' version is called the RT and is almost purely cosmetic.

Going to have to give this one a try, looks like a tire shreader to me :dopey:

Introduction:
You begin to walk down to the area known as the fish market. You rarely see this side of town so your expectations aren’t very high. All you know is that a modified car will be waiting for you. As you walk further and enter the first warehouse you come across you see something on the edge of the shadows. As you approach the object, you find that it is a car, quite possibly the car you are supposed to rendezvous with. As you veer closer, you begin to take into account the exterior of the car.

Exterior:
When you reach the door you notice something strange and unexpected. This car is very small. With dimensions very similar to the likes of other cars such as the Honda Beat and Suzuki Cappuccino, you grab the door to pop the hood. Surprisingly it is already unlocked with the keys inside. You look at the engine with mixed feelings of disgust and joy. You immediately notice the turbocharger but it only seems to be powering a 0.7l Inline-3 DOHC engine. Engine aside, you close the hood and move around the rest of the car. It has a wonderful hatchback design, although looking suspiciously close to a Honda Today G, you don’t mind the overall design, even with the hatch spoiler. Transferring to your hands and knees you proceed to investigate the under carriage. To your surprise you see that there is a large pumpkin shaped object near the rear axle. You wonder for a moment and move towards the front, only to find another similar design. “Four-wheel-drive”, you think to yourself, truly being excited for the first time today. After inspecting other features such as the well placed decals, you hop in the car, crank it up and drive it to the DP’s Motorland for some testing.

Positives:
If you have ever wanted to drive a Go-Kart in the Gran Turismo series then here is your chance. The SAW (Suzuki Alto Works) is small, quick and agile, making this one of the most entertaining vehicles I have ever driven. The steering is very responsive and because of its already light body, the power/weight ratio after my modifications is very close to that of a fully modified version.
The SAW really excels on quick switchback corners. While it may take some practice to get used to the steering characteristics, it essentially only takes a flick of the joystick (or wheel) to get this thing where you want it to go.
Also, because of the SAW’s uber-low power, you can power through almost any set or corners, even after coming off of a long straight. While some braking IS required, you will find that the SAW enjoys zipping along much like a Go-Kart. Along with the 4WD set-up, you can find that the overall handling of the car can easily be changed by adjusting the VCD controller.

Negatives:
Ultimatley, the only real problem I have with this car are some power characteristics. I did notice that from a standing start, revving the engine even to an appropriate RPM range, still creates a sort of lag on launch. If you remember this car fully tuned in GT3, this was a BAD problem; luckily GT4 has changed this.
Also, all of the torque is made in the middle RPM range leaving something to be desired when the engine whines around 6500. Driving up hills seem to be an issue but once the hill is toppled things will soon get better.

Conclusion:
I would really like to make many more versions of this car with various changes in the initial set-up. Just imagine 6 SAW’s cruising around Motorland or any other small, technical course. If there is any car close to being that of a Go-Kart then this is definitely one of them. While this may not satisfy the power needs of many of the readers, I hope that you will at least give this car a go and see hoe much fun it can really be.

2001 VW W12 Nardo Concept

Cost of Modifications: 276,150 Credits

Deep Forest Time: 1'02.253

nardo715gz.jpg

Brought to you by Kennythebomb.

Nearly a week after my exhilarating experience with the Ginetta, my phone rang yet again.

"Mr. Schabow, a man has a VW Nardo he would like you to drive around Deep Forest. Be there in 2 hours."

Before I could ask what 'Nardo' meant, my editor hung up.

Not knowing what to expect, I drove down to Deep Forest in my Porsche 911. The Autobahn is much more fun in a Porsche.

Upon arriving at the track, I saw an orange blur speeding down the straightaway.

"Since when does Volkswagen make supercars?"

Minutes later I finally got to see the car up close. The sleek lines disguised the large motor situated just before the rear axle... a mid-engined car. Upon further inspection I noticed the engine looked quite unlike any other I've seen.

The owner stepepd out of his vehicle. Judging from the clothes this man wore while racing, there was no doubt this man makes more money than I ever will.

"It's a W12... 812 hp."

My jaw dropped. "You must be mistaken... sir... 'W' 12? 812 hp??? Am I at the right place?"

"Well.... it's not stock." A devilish grin appeared as he said this.

He explained to me a whole list of things that had been done to this car to make it his favorite weapon of choice. Racing everything. I also learned what the W engine is, which is also used on the slightly more practical VW Phaeton. I found the bit about this car being the fastest around the Nardo track in Italy both exciting and scary.

Time to strap myself in. This being VW's first supercar, and mid-engined, I was wary about how it would handle.

These feelings were manifested when in supercar-like form, I found myself going far into the corners to slow down enough to stay on the track... and to add insult to injury it didn't feel like turning sharp, either.

After a few preliminary laps I pulled back into the pits.

"Well, the one thing this car has is potential. I see yet again a racing car without a spoiler for downforce... however the car doesn't even seem to need it. Lets try some tweaking, shall we?"

Through trial and error I successfully set the suspension and LSD so that the car would steer quicker without sacrificing control. On the braking side, racing brakes and a controller were installed, which helped tremendously. I eliminated most wheelspin and softened the suspension a bit, while increasing the ride height just a bit. Together it made this Nardo quick and fairly nimble.

Many laps later and I was pulling a steady 1'05 flat... a very reliable and well tamed supercar.

I was having so much fun, but needed to refuel... so I returned to the pits to find the owner holding a bottle of nitrous.

"Not this again..."

Besides adding juice, he completely went through his engine and upgraded it. He rolled the car over to the dynamometer - a very handy device. Deep Forest is famous for being the first track with an on-site dyno, and tuners love it for that. I took a peek at the numbers.... 913bhp! holy hell! And that's not even counting the nitrous when it's being used.

For safe measure, before I headed back out on the track, I put the LSD Acceleration as far up as it would go.

For the most part, the car handled the power increase well. But it certainly exposed the unstableness at high speeds due to lack of downforce. On the backstraight, I was coming really hard into the final tunnel and the nose lifted up some! Needless to say, I didn't stay out long after I set my blistering best lap. The drive home in the 911 was lackluster compared to the thrill of taking this VW supercar to it's max potential.

nardo513cp.jpg

Good

With this current setup, if you don't use the nitrous, you'll have a fast but somewhat snaky car. Hope you are talented at driving. However, if you go back to NA 2, you'll have an almost as fast but well-balanced racing machine. You will kick some major butt even if you are just average at racing.

Great style!

nardo611so.jpg

Bad

Mid-engined + no downforce = snaky when fully modded.

nardo411ho.jpg

Verdict

If you got the credits to modify this car, it will be well worth your time. Just be careful.

Great story! But with the pics, can I say "jaggies"? ;)

It looks like all members are active, so we'll be reaching 50 reports soon. :D

And my next car is...... THE MINOLTA. Red Sea, please split!!!

This time I'm going all-out. R5s, and Nitrous.

Great write-up, but as Duck said the pictures look a bit jagged and still have the GT4 copyright on them.

Smoothed over and without the GT4 bit they would be great shots as there well composed and very 'moody' looking.

All in 👍

"Brought to you by Kennythebomb" where have I heard this kind of phrase before... ;)

But no worries, a very good report of a very good car. 👍

I took the Minolta 'round Deep Forest this morning, and with R5s and Nitrous, I got a 0'55. And everything was just a blur. It was so fast that I didn't recognize anything.

Yo kenny!, I'm feeling those pics this time :D I read the report twice cause I enjoyed it a lot.

And GTi, nice report too. The pics are a bit dark, but that is a good report 👍

Kenny-about the car's time (neon), it sure has the capability, but the tires dont. On S5's, i was freakin driftin half the track, it wasn't good, and moving weight could have meant rear sliding mania. So yeah, when GT5 has has "holy****inwhoaWTF!?-soft tires", It'll run faster. And your report, freakin wow man, i think you should start up a novel with every chapter being a different story. Maybe some self driving cars here and there, throw in a little Steven King ya know. And your pics are good, but don't resize them with image shack, there is a crap load of pixels, either that or try another resizing method if you didnt use imageshack for resizing.

Duck-Polak=someone from poland.k thx.lol.

GTIVR6-Ya know, i've never even wanted to drive one of those atroscious machine's, they just seem unworthy of my time. but when you said the stuff about the go-kart handling characteristics, i am about to go buy one as i type, i really want something that can entertain me, well, and maybe drift as well, so thank you for actually changing my whole idea about that series of car.

By the way, does anyone else read kenny's stories in a British accent? weird.

Car: Toyota Minolta 88C-V ‘89 Report | Driver: Duċk | Deep Forest Laptime: 0’55.411

NOTE: Laptime tested with R5s.

Exterior:
Speed, speed, speed. That was clearly engraved in the minds of the designers of the 88C-V. Sitting 5 and a half centimeters off the ground already screams that. The 800 HP engine confirms it. Same thing with the state-of-the-art suspension, and the numerous parts of the car that generate downforce. And those racing slicks.

It’s a feat on engineering, and a work of art. It is very cool, and it stands out tremendously in a race. “Leading” is it’s middle name. It’s leading the hot laps board, the Deep Forest one and the Midfield one that’s mine. So let me tell you how great this car is.

minolta54ig.jpg

The Good…:
Let me start with it’s speed. It’s incredible. 800 HP stock is amazing, but with the Stage 4 turbo, it raises it to 1200 HP. 1200!!! If there’s any such thing as overkill, this is it. But hey, I’m making sure this car is as fast as possible. So guess what, nitrous is going on! And when you press the little red button of speed, you’ll go, well, even faster. You can go to 300 MPH easily, 350 if you’re really good.

Another thing: handling. This beast handles at 170 MPH like a Citroen 2CV at 40. That means unparalleled. With R2s, there’s barely any understeer, but with R5s, you’d be too overwhelmed with the grip to say that there is none. Can anyone say “It’s on rails, dude!”

minolta60dr.jpg

…And the bad:
Nothing, really. Maybe the fact that you can’t think ahead since you’re going so fast is a con, but there really wasn’t anything to complain about.

minolta75nw.jpg

Conclusion:
This thing is fast. No, that’s an understatement. It’s dang near godly. It’ll pretty much annihilate anything that’s on the same pavement as you. Get it if you like to race something real fast.

The set-up:
Toyota Minolta 88C-V Set-up

Thanks for reading, and please comment!!!

Also, just so everyone knows, when you edit the first post, write the full name of the car, and put a hyphen (-) in between the name and the laptime.

So instead of:

Chevy Silverado 1'16.584

do:

Chevrolet Silverado SST Concept '03 - 1'16.584

Thanks. :D
