isnt that score kinda low compared to other sli pc's of similar specs?

Donbenni and I are running dual core CPU's, he only has a single core. If he was to OC the 7800's a bit like donbenni and I have he would most likely increase it a few hundred points.

Yeah you've got a point. Graphics cards should make more of a difference than CPU. Wonder if one of them was disabled or something.

I had a driver conflict (a big scary driver conflict, we cant go under it, we cant go over it, we have to reinstall windows) between my motherboard and my soundcard when I was running those benchmarks. I'm reformatting my hard disk and will try again later today with Forceware 80 drivers.

Also the improvment was caused by clocking the graphics cards to default (they were running on reduced noise previously) and changing the setting from high quality to performance.

It would have taken as much time to copy the details from my post on page 8 and paste it into your first post as it did for you to type that message.

Intel PC... $750

GPU... $300

Getting a 3D Mark score not far below all the AMDs as well as beating Event and playing FEAR in Max... Priceless

 sorry I had too.. (Event's sig)

Do I care? Not at all.

Gabkicks
you cared enough to post that you didnt care
I do care about taking VIPFREAK down a peg or two.

And i was painfully bored earlier today.

Just gettin you back for the what 2 months you and everyone else were taughting me with this bad ass game. :D :P

I have reinstalled windows (and sorted out the driver conflict), this is more like it:

Eat my irrationally high score VIPFREAK!
And so we all agreee that we cant have an Intel at the top of the 3D mark charts.

BTW nothing has changed in my system other than the fact that it now runs stable.

 I hope you don't take this wrong but... out of your system...

2gbs of Ram
AMD athlon 4000+
Dual GeForce 7800GTXs (standard 256mb cards)

That's all you got? :ill:

5927-3812=2115

That puts the difference between our two PCs running at stock at about Shannon's score, tell me thats a small difference.

It also makes me the only person in this thread to break 5000.

If the speed of an overclocked Athlon 64 3500+ and overclocked X850XT is small, then yes. :indiff:

Its the SLI 7800GTX's that do the trick 👍

I really want to buy another 7800GTX :D

 Don't get me started. I was looking at prices last night and my god they're still about £350. That's a large percentage of my monthly pay packet :guilty:

Awesome score Flame-returns, looks more like it 👍 Not only the sole person to break 5K, but nearly 6K too :scared: I hear that my processor in single core mode is the same as yours, so hopefully if i get another GTX i should be looking at around late 5Ks, early 6Ks :)

err... wrong button...

Shannon do you play FEAR? If so can you run it on max?
Yes, I do play FEAR. And I can run it on max, but 2fps isn't exactly good gaming. ;)

These are some screens of my settings pages in FEAR.

As you can see I run around medium levels, and I get about 30-40fps. Meh, I haven't payed as much attention to gaming as I had when I first built this computer, so it doesn't really bother me.

Ok, that's cool... I was really thinking of getting an ATi card at first but the FPS numbers just weren't doing it for me. :grumpy: Do you only have experience in ATi because I'm still wondering if there's a quality difference between it and Nvidia? Thanks :)👍

The ATi x1900XTX gives (in general) better fps in games than the 7800 GTX. Same with the x1800XT. :) That's pretty much the difference.

:odd: According to Tom's hardware all ATi cards really suffered vs. Nvidia in FEAR but anyways I was referring to something like 3D rendering or PS kind of quality. :scared: All those cards would be wayyyyy out of my price range too.

It really depends

1st you have ATI 1900 512mb
2nd is a Nvidia 7800GTX 512mb
then is Nvidia 7800GTX 256mn
then ATI 1800 256mb
then 7800GT
then it goes down to many other cards.

Plus you can run Nvidia SLI as well.

ATI have always had higher image quality than nVidia cards. In fact, not long back nVidia were caught cutting a few corners with anisotropic filtering to gain some extra FPS.

So, the general consensus when buying video cards is:

"Want speed, go with nVidia. Want pretty pictures, go with ATI."

Really though, it all boils down to your personal preference. The speed and quality differences are hardly noticeable when comparing same generation cards (eg: x850 vs 6800, 7800 vs x1800). Some games will play better on nVidia cards (Doom 3) and some will play better on ATI cards (Half Life 2). The one thing I do like about ATI though is they have driver updates every month.
