Thumbs up from me, in my opinion it could have been much worse! Im glad they havent wasted it but i do agree its no R32 or R33 (but do we really think they would have wanted it to be compared to these models?).

It'd make no sense for them to make an understated saloon car as the new GT-R, the only reason the older GT-R's were thoes things was because they were simply a variation of the Skyline model and now the GT-R no longer is a variation of the Skyline and the Skyline as a completely different car. So rather than compromise the GT-R they're going all out to make it as good as they can within the brackets they want.

First, the LF-A is not Toyota, but Lexus

And second, it's a concept, so it doesn't come out anyway.

And third, should it come out, it would pwne the cars you mentioned.
First, Toyota = Lexus. It will wear a Lexus badge, but its still Toyota engineering. Like a Corvette is a GM car and a Veyron is a VW.

Second, Id be shocked if it didnt make production from this stage.

Third, Possible, but very unlikely. Better chances of being reasonably competitive, but "pwn"ing no.

Regardless of what it is or isn't, this car was obviously meant to play off of the sucess of the previous Skylines. That is the point, this car could've been easily called a Skyline GT-R, looked the same and had the same design brief.

That's a GT-R pictured. Has to be. It's way too wide and curvy.

I LOVE how it looks. sure, it's not exactly understated, (you could hardly call an R32-R34 GT-R understated if you left it's wing on anyway) but I think I like the "musclecar" look!

It has surprisingly little camo...I'm sure the Super GT version will be FAR more closely garded.

It is a GT-R, there's nothing else that looks anything like it.

Oh hey, yeah. I completely missed that. It seems emad and WindingRoad.com missed the memo stating that the GT-R and Skyline are now separate entities, and that the V35 Skyline has been out for a while now, in the form of the Infiniti G35 in the 'States.

 I think I just messed myself.. it still resembles the Proto, which is a very, VERY good thing. 👍

It's simply stunning, obviously aimed at cars at equal/higher price range. While the performance facts are still under speculation, I have no doubt how fast it will be. After all, Nissan had such automotive magicians as Lotus and Cosworth fine-tuning the suspension and engine.:sly:

And to those who say that it lacks the the looks of late 80's grocery getter or early 90's comfortable saloonish looks, I say that they should do a reality check. It's about a time that Nissan refreshes it's best known product to this millennium, instead of returning to 60's like american sportscars (*coughcough*Mustang'05, Ford GT*coughcough*) have done.
I'd compare it to new Camaro. It has hints from original models (afterburner rearlights anyone?) and something new from current models (headlights are quite close to 350Z's, which nicely connects these two sports coupes).
Unfortunately, I have a feeling that it will be limited to 155mph (250km/h).. but, likewise, I have a feeling that if ( more like when ;) ) Nismo gets their hands on this one, it'll smash the opposition, or atleast give them a run for their money.. :mischievous:

And now, I must bow down to this beast.:D

:bowdown:All heil GT-R, the heir of the Almighty Godzilla!

Heil? Typo? or is Der GT-R Der Fuhrer? XD

Nein. Der 997 Turbo ist den Führer. Der GT-R wünscht, dass es so gut wie den 997 Turbo war. :D

Auf der anderen seite, der neue M3 müsst sich doch bewähren. Vielleicht ist es besser. :sly:

Bring on the Sports Car Battle: Japan vs. USA vs. Europe
I'm picturing it now the Skyline GT-R, Corvette ZO6, and the 911 Turbo pitted against each other.

Yes thats a very tasty battle, wont this new gtr have like 450hp, so that means the audi R8 could be included in these tests. The Z06 and 911 TT are arguably a class above though performance wise.

First Shots Of the Skyline On The ‘Ring!

skyline-ring-5.jpg

For those who can’t get enough of a good thing, we’ve procured some additional shots of the Nissan Skyline GT-R test mule doing some hot laps on the Nürburgring , as caught by the snappers over at KGP Photography.
As you’ll recall, WINDING ROAD broke the first photos of the car late yesterday. (Click here to see the original post), but we figured you might enjoy some shots of the prototype all hunkered down and loaded-up on its suspension.
(More shots of this smoking-hot Nissan layin’ it down after the jump!)

Big, Beautiful Musclecar. that's all I can say.

("Musclecar" refers to styling....very masculine, muscular. It does NOT refer to being a heavy dragstrip king...which is a stigma most musclecars had to deal with anyway...some of them handled quite well...)

Someone needs to tell the yahoos over at Winding Road that they're idiots for referring to that car as a "Skyline." They're only prolonging the confusion.

Also, looking at it now, there's only one way that roof/greenhouse could be cool, and that's if those awful C-pillars were in fact copy-cat flying buttresses (as on the 599). But even then, the greenhouse from the 2001 GT-R concept would still be better. I'm literally baffled that Nissan can't see that. :dunce:

Once again I find myself at odds with the majority of GTPers when it comes to automotive styling.

Not with me, at least not this time.

Nissan really needed to cross this concept (which had a fluid body with an ugly, boxish greenhouse) with their 2001 GT-R concept (which had an ugly, boxish body with a fluid greenhouse). That would have looked much better. :indiff:

I much preferred the earlier concept, and would have been happy with the way the whole thing turned out. The 2006 concept looks very much like its origins: a Skyline/G35. It also looks a bit compromised, in terms of trying to fit the design to the platform. The rear wing (vertical panel starting from the back edge of the door) is too flat and long, making the car look dumpy, not unlike the 2006 Mustang. Maybe extending the doors would fix it. As it is, it looks like G35 Sedan doors on a G35 Coupe body. The front is good, and the tail end is okay, just not when everything gets put together.

The 2001 concept looked much different, much more of a standout (about as subtle as a r34 GT-R). And it looked like something a comic book superhero would drive (obviously, one that couldn't fly :D).

And has anyone else noticed how huge the exhaust is? It almost dwarfs the taillights!

Not sure about what segment they're really targeting. The semi-supercar segment has seriously moved on since just 15 years ago. No longer can the NSX be considered a Ferrari-baiter (another company that's just so far ahead); the Corvette tops 200MPH; and the 911/997 Turbo is...well, it's just so much more accomplished in all areas than the 993. It's clearly a class above any other Japanese car on the road, unlike the still-the-same STi's and Evo's today. Does that mean it's up against the C55 AMG, V8 M3, and RS4? Considering that the G35 is routinely up against the C320/330i/A4, wouldn't this follow suit, too?

Why haven't the mods locked this! Children view this website! :droooooooooooooooooooooooooooool:

Car looks nice, overall. Most of the car, I find gorgeous. The roof and the c-pillar is suspect though. Really tricky. I think I prefer the roof and pillar from the concept.

You are totally right, but I kinda like it. I think Skyline would be a cool nickname for future GT-Rs. Confusing to the noobs, but it shows the trait of the car. That's just me.

Good point you have there, very interesting indeed. If they "play by the rules" like the others, yes indeed they would be fighting it out with the C55 and such, theoretically speaking. Okay, maybe not the C55, but certainly the RS4 to some extent... That is assuming it stays on-target with the M3...

In my opinion, price is going to be the monster-killer here. If they can't push it out the door for less than $100K they run the risk of pricing it out of the market. If they go too low, they run the risk of not turning a profit on the car. The magic number will probably be about $80K to start, similar spots going to the Z06 and SRT-10, not to mention the Carrera 4S not beeing too far out of range either...

firstly, on the canopy, it's not really that bad. the real problem is the way the roofline intersects with the A pillar. it makes the windshield look like it's standing up way more than it really is and it makes the whole canopy look like a barn door aerodynamicaly. if they could smooth out that transition from windshield to roof and make it look much more rounded and flow into the downward sloping roof, the whole thing would look pretty good.

as for the rest of the car i absolutely LOVE it. well, what we can see anyway. the rear i know will look good but i am woried alot about the front. the origional concept looked horrible from the upright headlights to the... ah hell the whole thing was horrible. the headlights appear to have changed which is a VERRY good thing, even better if they go 350Z ish. as long as they add more body colored sections to the front it will look ok.

And i really really really REALLY hope it has a full 500 hp. it really should with a 3.5 - 3.8 liter twin turbo and it needs that much power to compete with the Z06/SRT-10/F430/galardo.

[EDIT]
how much power does the new 911 turbo have? Wait... theres a new 911 turbo? haha

Can't believe I hadn't noticed this earlier.

This car is pure sex, but let's just hope it looks even better when the production model is finally revealed.
*Looks towards Audi R8 production model*

Alright, I decided to expand upon that simple side-shot photoshop I did months ago, so I added the other two readily-accessable views:

How does that look, then?

So it has happened..... They have finally butchered the Skyline.... 'tis a shame

Skyline was butchered when Nissan introduced V35 or G35 or whatever that bloated, ugly organic looking pos is.

and the rest of you, stop whining about the shapes of the cockpit. if it would be like that photochop, it would be just mildly modded 350Z.

I think it looks nice, but it's going to have to be packing some serious power to run with the Z06s and 911s of the world. That will also mean a hefty price tag so it could be interesting to see exactly how this car stacks up.

...Wait...

Whats wrong with the next-gen G35 Sport Coupe? The sedan too?

I think it is a great-looking car in both forms, so I don't see what the problem is there. Certainly the circa-2003 model was a bit odd with some of it's shapes, but overall it too was a good looking car.

...But I do agree with you about the greenhouse complaints...
