Imo the coupe is nice but the sedan isn't so much so. I wasn't all that keen on the 2003 model either. decent enough car just not a fan of the styling all that much.

G35 is more Infiniti than Nissan. now, back on topic:

the price tag. it'll be quite hefty for a Nissan, but with that money you get the best what Nissan has to offer. with the price around 70k or 80k, what else can you get? Cayman S? old M3?

It's the Nissan Skyline in Japan, Infiniti and Nissan are just two branches of the same company.

I also do not like the front fenders over the 2001 GTR model's. They add chunk to the car and take away a lot of the design fluidity that the previous concept had. If the current one didn't continue from over the wheels to the rockers behind them, it would be a lot nicer, like the earlier design. It's a shame, the 2001 concept had a lot going for it, I really liked it a lot (I really rarely like design a lot).

I think he meant that the 35's car is more rooted towards Infiniti design house than Nissan.

Mind telling me what is different from the Japanese Skyline to the American (G35) Skyline?

...The only difference I see is the badge sitting in the grille and the air inlets...

For $80K?

- Chevrolet Corvette, Corvette Z06
- Ford Mustang GT500
- Dodge Viper SRT-10 Coupe
- BMW M3 (with V8)
- BMW M5 (barely)
- Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG
- Porshe Cayman S
- Porsche 911 Carrera
- Audi RS4

...among others that aren't sold in the United States...
(aka stiff competition)

I assume that those are american market prices.. here we have about 50% taxes on the car, for example:

RS4 costs 142k here.
Z06 is 124k.
M5 is 135..
and there's no M3 with V8 yet.
Caymans are built in here, carreras.. not sure.
Vipers? dream on. we've had the first gen ones here, but newer than those? nope.
Ford GT500? dream on, we didn't get the base mustang either.

yeah, I know.. Finland sucks when one's a motorhead.

and the rest of you, stop whining about the shapes of the cockpit. if it would be like that photochop, it would be just mildly modded 350Z.
Except, unlike the 350Z, the new GTR would look better than the car that preceeded it. And, well, have 450 BHP and AWD.

The new spy pics look great to me... I mean, they give me hope. The car looks like it could easily have smoothed lines in places that look bad on the pictured car. We also see a widebody look coming into play and that's always cool. 👍

I'm excited and just hope for a Skyline Nissan can be proud of.
Until more shots are posted.
later :D

Alright, I decided to expand upon that simple side-shot photoshop I did months ago, so I added the other two readily-accessable views:

[SNIP]

How does that look, then?

EXACTLY. beautifull car. even if they it didnt have the dogleg in the c pillar from the concept it would still look good.

Those headlights just dont look right. I think the car is way too radical looking for a Skyline. I personally liked the R33 the best and the one from the early '70's. This car looks way too much like a concept car IMO.👎

I have to wonder who has the money for a $70,000 Nissan.

You'd be surprised. After all, Honda managed to sell quite a few $70,000 NSXs... ;)

I don't agree with the high price tag of this or the NSX, but I'm sure it'll sell.

People were paying $100K to import R34s. I think a $70K GT-R will have no problem.

Certainly so on the R34 deal. The last of the NSXs were retailing for nearly $100K by the time they went out as well.

...$70-80K for the GT-R certainly isn't outrageous, but they have to watch their steps as there will be some great competion at those prices...

In my opinion, price is going to be the monster-killer here. If they can't push it out the door for less than $100K they run the risk of pricing it out of the market. If they go too low, they run the risk of not turning a profit on the car. The magic number will probably be about $80K to start, similar spots going to the Z06 and SRT-10, not to mention the Carrera 4S not beeing too far out of range either...

Yes, price seems to be what will make or break the GT-R. I have no doubt that it will be a great car (what with the success of the rest of the platform: 350Z and G35), but if they price it a class above because of the massive development they put in, then I can't seem them making the sales they deserve -- or need.

~$70K seems about right, despite being more than twice the price of the G35, but the one car that could be the thorn in its side is the Corvette Z06. Still a contender with the Gallardo et. al., but so cheap in comparison. Not to mention that it's really good....

Price is everything, it seems, only it's not because of the badge, but because of the competition. When this last happened, the NSX was really right on top of the F348. Quite unlike today, of course.

They were paying for something that was ultra-exclusive in the US, and had a long reputation & pedigree. This is an all-new platform, and no history so far. Not that it means the price is undeserved, just that the comparison to the r34 isn't quite the same.

Damn, when this thing goes into production I want to see a best motoring tsukuba battle with that racing against an R32, R33 and an R34.

HAH! I am wrong....it happens.

The NSX has really come down in price recently. I found one for 18K online.

Anyway...I still dont care for it.:yuck:

Sounds teriffic.

Love the super-quick manual transmission.

except that it wasn't manual. seems to be that they're going for automatic paddleshifter, like they clearly said in the video.:ill: :ouch: GT-R.. and automatic.. oh no.. do NOT go down that path which those american dinosaurs took.

anyways, did I see wrong or was that porsche unable to keep up? if that is so, I think that ze germanz vill hav a nazty zuprize right under zeir nozez.. :mischievous:

I'll have to watch that vid when I get home in just over an hour.

Thoughts post video:

1) That exhaust noise sounds more like a glorified Hoover than a decendant of the VQ engine family. Where are the guts to that exhaust?
2) The transmissions sounds like some sort of sequential setup, at most an automatic, but Nissan isn't dumb enough to do that... But then again, the 997 Turbo can be had with the Triptronic S as well...
3) The car still looks like a lot of work needs to be completed before the 2008 model year arrival. But, Nissan still has plenty of time.

What American dinosaurs? Manual transmissions are on the comeback here in the US. Anyway, if it wasn't for us, we wouldn't be seeing a true (and proper) manual transmission in the M5, now would we?

(Guess we can get some things right!)

I think a majority of us can agree that the roofline isn't very nice (to put it mildly). My thing is, why would Nissan go for a roofline like that? Couldn't they have stuck with the one like on the 350Z/Fairlady Z?

- Autotragic doesn't impress me in the slightest (although I have no reason to doubt that a manual -- or at the very least, a sequential manual -- will be available)

- The noise is only so-so (which is the best most V6's can hope for, and I suspect the turbocharging is why this GT-R doesn't sound like the 350Z, at least not yet)

- The roofline still would have been better if it were either streamlined, or "sedan-like" (see M3 or previous GT-Rs)

Edmunds call it a neesan skyline. Its nissan, and its not a skyline. Its like how bush calls Iraq, EyeRak

It's supposed to be "neesahn," not "nissin" like you crazy Brits pronounce it. :sly:

Although the Japanese would put equal emphasis on both syllables, unlike many americans who put the emphasis on the first syllable.
