WRS'ers and their ride...

Sounds great Darren! Well, aside from the whole having to replace things, and having to wait on a couple of little parts... For a while I thought my exhaust valve seats were completely done for(they've got a couple miles left on them I guess, as long as I keep an eye on my clearances regularly!), so I started rebuilding a head that I'm planning on eventually tossing on. Got as far as getting the head cleaned up ready for me to do some port work on, but I've been chickening out and I think I'll just pay for someone to do some minor clean up of the ports instead of me doing it. I just don't have the time, and don't really trust myself on a head that I don't want to damage. But, it appears the car's ok enough for now and I haven't finished the head up. It has a nasty piston slap or some crap at idle though, not even when cold, just always when there's no load... This current motor's a junkyard unit that was so coked up with waxy oil residue I'm suprised it still works, let alone holds compression! Maybe I'll toss some thicker oil in it next time. But seriously, I bash on this thing like no other, and with the 4spd on the highway, it sits at 4000-4500rpm for an hour to two hours at a time! (this is the 142 I'm talking about, not the 240)

Anywho, looking forward to hearing how it all goes, take care when breaking it in!

Oh, and Smallz, sweet new ride man! :)

Forgot to post pictures of it's new wheelz! 👍 They do wonders for the looks of this piece of crap. It's a shame they don't match(one has less offset and only one bolt pattern), and two of the tires don't hold air, and they're the ones with like 75% tread left!!! Argh.

My Ride is all stock, got it for a bargain is all (second hand), wanted something besides a corrolla-civic or camry-accord, I even named her "Gita" :)

Make: VW
Model: 2001 Black Jetta Mk. IV
Sub-Model: GLS 2.0 L (inline 4-cylin)
HP: 120-115 (i am guessing here; according to the manual)

Wishlist: ahhh when will I ever get to do it, everytime I get enough $$ it ends up going to bills-utillities-car maintence- and most of all college :guilty:
P225-45-R17 tires
Aluminum Wheels;nothing flashy just lightweight and conservative-brushed aluminum finish)
lol it has a cassette player:scared: , I dont even have any in my house anymore, so a CD player:D ;
the sound system, dont need to change, its a MONSOON system(stock :dopey: can u believe it)
I dont know, but is there a way to mod the tranny; 5th gear is not enough for crusining revs on highways
P.S.: The car does like to remind from time to time that it's an FF; oh and BTW its of course a manual :sly:
I'll get a pic up of it soon

Nice wheels Kyle. 👍 Are they proper split rims or fake rim bolts? Look nice anyway.

My new bits only showed up today, (I had to mail order them), so the engine rebuild has been put on hold for a couple of days. I've done a lot of work today, cleaning stuff up and sorting new nuts and bolts etc. I'm a bit annoyed with myself at the moment as I wanted it running by now but a combination of my lack of motivation first thing this morning and the odd problem here and there I've run a bit over schedule. I've only got a couple of hours work left to do in the morning so I'll soon be thras...running it in. :D

I'll post up a proper spec list later as I got quite a few pleasant surprises when I opened the 1275 engine up. ;)

Darren.

You better run it in nicely! Goodies are ALWAYS good... Man oh MAN I want to build a proper motor for my car... Even if the shell is trash, I don't care!

The wheels're fakies... Although, ARE also made multipiece ones. I'll just have these until the tires are gone, but I really like the style and will probably get some custom ones made up. Maybe a lil wider... 8"? :)

Just got some new wheels on my car. Here's a pic. Not my car, but same wheels and same model car. Mine is black though. They are 17s off an audi TT.

Not really my cup of tea... But if you like them! :) Just too thick and heavy for my tastes.

Wow cant believe i never posted in here. i thought i did. hmm well anyway here she is. 94 Ford ranger extended cab. 2WD, 4 liter V6, 5 speed.

About 160 hp and 225 ft-lb's of torque.

FUTURE MODIFICATIONS:

first order of buisness. get rid of those mud flaps, :yuck: and i'd like to repaint it in blue, but the paint is in decent shape and i dont like the idea of my door sills being a different color than the exterior.

i wanna put a hard tanou (sp?) cover on it, adorned with a small spoiler. rear exit dual exhaust, a ram air hood, (preferably a '00-ish mustang GT replica) and a k&n filter. A proper front bumper or at least lower valance treatment (of which they make thousands of variations for this truck) and if i feel like it, an ecu reflash to perk it up a bit more.

i plan on purchasing a wheel and tire package when these wear out. the fronts are a good size but i want to go wider in the rear. (it'll light em up already, bone stock. haha)

The V8 Turbo got a present today. In the form of some new rubber.

But I hate salesmen, I went in, going to buy two of the cheapest sets, because my front tyres are no-name chucks of **** and have no grip anywhere, and my back tyre got a puncture. So I was just going to get 2 for the front, and put the crappy fronts on the back, my car is FWD so I didn't think it mattered. (Or known as the 'Colby School of Thought')

Anyway, the guy is telling me about how I'm 18 so I like to drive hard, and those cheap tyres aren't much better then I have now, and I should get a performance tyre, blah blah, and he can do me a good deal, yadda yadda. Anyway, an hour later I drive out with a set of Bridgestone Potenzas and a bank balance with a $600 dint in it.

The only thing is, I have have two problems now. Number 1 is I'm struggling to do burnouts because my car isn't actually powerful enough to spin the tyres now. And now my car constantly turns right, whereas previously it turned left.

So no NASCAR anymore?

Do NASCAR ever run clockwise? If so I'm set!

Although I really did prefer it the other way, because now if I'm driving and need to take my eyes off the road to check out a babe walking down the street, my car will move towards oncoming traffic rather then into a sationary tree on the other side of the road.

Running into trees doesn't usually impress the girls now does it?

What if it falls on your car and crushes it ? :-)

Anyway, I got me a new bike - Honda 919 (known as Hornet in Europe), sadly I will have to sell my 929 (Fireblade)

That Volvo 240 Turbo looks nothing like my pile of crap ;)

Nah, she's our old faithful really. 👍

Sweet cars there, both of them. I saw a similar Wagon on our street a couple of days ago, that same black styling and everything... Again, around 200HP, so the owner claims. These wagons look like a pretty good deal - perhaps I should look for one when I get to the car-buying age?

The V8 Turbo has become quite trouble some in the last few days.

While attempting to leave the local shopping centre, upon returning to my car I had found that my car would not open anymore, and the key just turned around in the keyhole....then the keyhole came out with the key.

Then having to wait 2 hours to the local 'Break into my car' guy to come, he's told me that pretty much the locks are rooted and they'll have to be replaced. The passenger side lock has never worked since I had the car, and it appears whatever happened on that side has happened on the drivers.

Anyway, at the moment I have no locks on my car, so if you guys are going to steal it, please take my wallet out first.

So I took it to the local VW Dealership, because they're the only one in the country who knows what a SEAT is, and they've quoted me $330AUD (260US) for 2 locks! And they have to take my car for two days while they import the stuff. Maybe I can deal a rental car into the equation.....I'll take the Golf R32 thanks.

But they did give me this bag with my locks in it for free, labeled 'Gew-funny a-hrleistung' I have no idea what it means, but it's probably something along the lines of Ripped:lol:off. (That 'funny a' totally has to be an emoticon)
dsc00455ie0ab9.jpg

Although last night I did have to lock my car because I was out at a club (Hence the copious amounts of alcohol littering the gearstick), so I have to
  1. Go outside and open the boot,
  2. Come back inside and lock the doors,
  3. Elegantly climb over into the back
  4. Put the back seat down
  5. Crawl through the little hole and out of the boot
  6. Close the boot
To get back in is the reverse, and I was about to punch someone last night because when I first did it I left my freaking lights on, got out, and then realized my phone was still inside too :banghead:

Bah.

It's pretty much a VW Mk. 1 Rabbit/Golf but with a truck bed. My plans are to fix anything that breaks. Otherwise I'll save money for a Beetle when either my mom OK's it or I'm out of the house.

That'll be the 'guarantee' thingy. It does go along the lines of "Ripped:lol:off", since you have to keep it in order to prove those things actually broke in order to get that thing repaired. Why I know? My grandfather in Germany drove an MkIII Golf which had that exact problem. He replaced the whole car, it wasn't worth the repair.

The 'funny a' is one of the umlauts. Basically, it's like a long 'e'. You have to "vomit" the 'e'. Like when the doctor tells you to say "Aaaahhhh"? Same, with an 'e'.

That looks very similar to the '82 Rabbit Diesel that my mother used to drive. Absolutely AWESOME fuel-mileage in that old Rabbit. And it had a 5-speed manual tranny which made a huge difference -- I can't imagine that thing with an auto tranny.

My '80 Benz 240D Diesel is a great car, but it doesn't get near the fuel-mileage that the old Rabbit got... But, the Benz is far heavier and has an extra litre of displacement... And it's still quite good, considering what's in most American garages these days.

Driving an auto-diesel would be quite scary.:scared: This car gets about 54-56mpg for most people. I can imagine that Benz being built with awesome quality though. I've been spending too much time with the water-cooled folks, now I want a carbed 8 valve turbo swap.💡

My mom's old Rabbit got about 55MPG on the highway, and between 45 and 50 around town... The Benz gets "only" about 35 or so on the highway... But it's the overdrive that makes all the difference -- the Rabbit has that 5th gear. You just get out on the highway, drop it in 5th, and roll with it all day long. The Benz has a 4-speed automatic, but 4th gear is 1:1, not an overdrive, and the rear-end is 3.69:1 -- so the engine is just screaming at 75MPH. I'm surprised it does as well as it does, given the high RPM's. I'd absolutely love to have an overdrive in my Benz... I think a 0.75:1 overdrive would add a good 10MPG to it...

I'll admit it, my car isn't special. In fact, I'd rather say that it's about as mundane as maybe one could get.

1988 Chevrolet (Not Vauxhall) Nova.

1.6L 4-A from Toyota..who knows about the power. Prolly nowhere near the 100 hp I hope it has. It returns about 36 mpg through the 5-speed mannytranny, which oddly shares the same ratios as an AE86 in GT4, so...pretty cool. It was purchased for only $150 and had an engine problem in which the previous owner had no idea what it was. About 2 hours in my Vocational School and $6 later, I had it perfectly purring due to 3 brand new gaskets in the carb. :D I'm really happy concidering that the car has just ellipsed over 224,000 miles without any major problems.

Maybe sometime from now I'll finally get photos of it.

Cheers,
Jetboy

Well. The V8 Turbo had a few interesting, and frustration developments this week.

First off, I washed for about the first time in 3 months on Thursday, 'I never rains anymore', I say to myself.

Friday and Saturday we had torrential rain for the first time in about 3 months. Turning the 'road' to work into pretty much a shallow muddy pond. The Turbo came out looking like this.

dsc00509vg3.jpg

Looking like it had just finished the Rally of Finland.

Speaking of Rallying, the day before, Greg and the V8 Turbo got involved in a little bit of suburban Off-roading. Anyway, one gutter and an 'It appears my car doesn't have enough ground clearance for this...' moment. The back of the bumper crashed now and somewhat cracked and snapped.

dsc00510sv0.jpg

On the positive. Though the rest of the car is falling apart piece by piece, the V8 has finally worn itself in after 140,000km. And I'm getting better fuel economy then I ever have. So far my record from the 38L tank is 567.2km, which is a pretty good rate of 6.7L/100km or 42mpg. Also I found a Shell that sells 100 Octane, I've been ever so tempted to try it out to see if there is any difference, but I don't want to know what the salesmen will think selling a tank of 100 Octane race fuel to a car with 80hp....

So you went rallying with the V8 Turbo again? You naughty...

And how about giving us some shots of the Monaro and that VXR?
