How to set up a LAN of any variety with PS2s.

1. Set up a memory card - up to 30 favourites in Arcade Mode, the tracks you want to use and 2-player settings (which LAN mode uses) set to how you want it (we use 7 laps and Strong tyre wear).
2. Set the LAN settings as if it is the host machine.

LAN Connection
Machine Name: Whatever you want
Host: Yes
Style: Play
Number of Players: 4 (in this case)
Replay Target: ENSURE THIS MATCHES A MACHINE NAME
Number of Monitors: 0
Monitor Position: Centre
Monitor Type: Normal
Monitor Traffic: Light

LAN Settings
Auto Connection: Yes
Machine ID: 1

SAVE THE GAME
CLONE THE CARD ONTO 3 OTHERS WITH PS2 BROWSER

Now you're ready to turn all the machines on.

1. Ensure that all PS2s have THE SAME GT4 SAVE GAME ON ALL THE MEMORY CARDS.
2. Ensure that NO MEMORY CARD CONTAINS A FILE CALLED "NETWORK CONFIGURATION". (this is really important)
3. Have the PS2s, TVs, Switch, and straight network cables, plug them all in. Make sure the Switch is on.

Enter GT4 with all 4 machines. Go into Options.

1. Go to LAN Connection again. Set the machines so that 1 is the host and the other three are not (Host: No). Set the machines so that they ALL HAVE DIFFERENT MACHINE NAMES.
2. Go to LAN Settings again. Set the machines so the EACH HAS A DIFFERENT MACHINE ID (from 2 to 4 - the host being #1)
3. SAVE THE GAME.

Now you're ready to start the LAN up.

1. Make sure everything is plugged in and switched on.
2. On Machine #4, go to Arcade Mode/Network Play. Wait until the machine is on the screen which says "Connecting" and has a "Cancel", Square button and TWO DOTS at the bottom. This is also really important.
3. On Machine #3, go to Arcade Mode/Network Play. Wait until the machine is on the screen which says "Connecting" and has a "Cancel", Square button and TWO DOTS at the bottom. This is also really important.
4. On Machine #2, go to Arcade Mode/Network Play. Wait until the machine is on the screen which says "Connecting" and has a "Cancel", Square button and TWO DOTS at the bottom. This is also really important.
5. On the HOST Machine, go to Arcade Mode/Network Play. The machine should go to a screen which says "Connecting" and has a "Cancel", Square button and ONE DOT at the bottom.
6. On the Slave machines, the TWO DOTS should become THREE DOTS and it will then connect.

Common slip ups:
1. No individual machine names/IDs.
2. Different favourite cars, track registry, 2P settings. This is why you clone from ONE master card.
3. Network Configuration file already exists on the memory card.
4. Switch not turned on.

Remember, if you make any changes to the save game which requires you to leave LAN play, you must exit out to the browser and delete the network configuration file. All settings bar Machine Name, Machine ID and Host status ought to be identical on ALL saved games.
