Is he running a 2ZZ or 1ZZ? Either way, that's crazy power.

I think I am gonna turn this into my cars in general thread, because, well, I am at 4 of them right now, so screw making 4 threads...

At the same time, only cost me a few hundred dollars, and looks like it will be driveable with a couple hundred more put into it. Plan to primer black it to control rust a bit and see where I want to go from there...
 
Looks like a nice project, and certainly, it will turn out to be quite the car when done. Stick a strong engine up there, it'd be a lot of fun.
 
RE: Turbo MRS - I'm pretty sure it's the 140 hp engine, whichever one that is.

RE: Celica: Chrome trim and lights are all that matters... the rest of the body can be 100% rust and it won't make a difference... as long as you have complete trim, restoration should be easy-breezy.

Dump a six in that sucker... :lol:
 
That would be the 1ZZ-FED from Japan then.

Eh, to make life easy, the first upgrade to engine stuff will just be using a 22R block with the 20R head, the moving up to just turboing a 22R. It just needs to be quick-ish and fun, nothing crazy. That will be the Spyder's job when it gets turbo'd.
 
Oooh, Celica. Soo tasty, fastbacks are the one of my favourite Toyotas.
Looks reasonably straight too, if you lose the big bumpers and swap them for some little chrome ones it'll look much better. But being the consumate Toyota nutter I'm sure you know that already...

Not as much rust on the inside as I was thinking, but some rust on the other side of car is pretty questionable...

I think the whole car is questionable.

Speaking of rust, did you know that Honda imported some very special early Wagovan models with a nice little present. The frames were acid dipped and Zinc-plated...from the factory! The cars that got the treatment have special labels with the information. Completely rust free, except if it got scratched very deeply. Then the scratch would rust.

Obviously Toyota didn't treat your Celica...

I would suggest spending an entire day to wash and clean it very thoroughly. Get all the plant matter out of there. Then you'll really be able to see what you've got to work with.

Also, the love the gas pedal perfectly placed for heel and toe action, lol.

Yeah yeah. Well, it was only 400 dollars and I got it running for the cost of a battery.

And yes, I drove it with the top down. Home. Despite it being 36 degrees F outside.

Dude, it'd mid-engined. It already understeers when it's not spinning out. But having all the grip in the back just makes the understeer worse.
 
Or it lets me rotate it more consistently because of the stiffer side walls. Removing understeer in this thing is just a matter of letting off the gas. Then power through it.

:lol: Its not the 138HP, but the way I toss the car around to get the back end to step out. Once the car starts to slide, its not that hard to keep it sliding with the little power the car has.

Gets around plenty fine, and is quite a bit of fun to drive as well.
 
As much as I love the midship rear wheel drive platform, I've never been a fan of this car. I'm sure it's a blast to drive, but I can't get past how feminine it looks. Honestly, this car makes a Miata look like Rambo.

If I was hell bent on an MR car, I would pony up and get a Lotus or look into the older (second generation) generation MR2's. Beautiful cars those things. A kid I go to school with drives a clean example and I can't help but drool everyday when I see it.

Here is one picture I found of an MKII MR2. Wheels are too big for a car that size.. definitely hurts performance. Still, I'll be damned if she's not a looker and a fun drive too.

The feminine issue is really only an issue if you aren't comfortable with your sexuality, or something. I don't give a damn what people think - the car is balls fun to drive.

The issue with the second gen is weight. The SW20 weighs a good 500 pounds more than the ZZW30, and doesn't have the as good of handling. The Elise costs about 3 times as much, used, as I can pick up a Spyder for.

Brad, trust me, you will see more pictures like this, maybe even a video from an event, I dunno. But I love this car in the snow.
 
Your Corolla looks delightfully like a Miata! There is now universal win throughout your garage.

The thing I hate about my parents' cars is that they're too big. Too much space for American asses which slop out of small seats. I must sit diagonally to relax. So I must ask: What is the MR-S's seat width, compared with Miata?

I'm on the fence between which of the Miata and MR-S is my favourite. They both even have catastrophic cultural connotations, where I live; my dad and his wife love MR-S's. And, of course, the pre-Miata me looks gay enough as is.

All that said, I do think I have something to say about the badge-war between Miata and Toyota. The Mazda badge, to me, projects a sort of habitual sportiness, a bit of (terribly sorry) zoom-zoom in every single one of the cars, reassuringly swift. But, when I see a Toyota badge, I see a company that has lost its way. They used to be such exciting people, then they began to kill their sporting cars, one at a time: Supra, Celica, then MR-2. The Toyota badge on the MR-S shows me the last swing of a dying giant, the best and most modern true sportscar to leave the factory. To be more specific: It's the last one. It's special.

I think that's worth something.
 
Oh wow, hadn't seen your post, EA11R. The seats are a little wide for me, but just barely. They could use a little more side support, but are all around, good OEM seats. I will be replacing, at least the driver's side, with the Momo seats from my AW11...

I've driven that Miata a bit too (roommate's) and it is fun, but quite a bit smaller on the inside. I am not comfortable in it with the top on, though lower sports seats would fix that. The turn in isn't as aggressive either, and the roommate agrees, the MR-S just has a crazy turn in that can't be found elsewhere. No doubt a result of the MR layout.

It really comes down to personal taste. I prefer the slightly slide happy, hyper quick turn in MR-S. My roommate prefers the more traditional FR Miata, with its predictable turn in and response in corners, and its more neutral feel.
