Got the car back today (well, yesterday now) and drove it for most of the afternoon and evening. New engine feels good overall and the 16 inch wheels plus stickier rubber is making the suspension feel soft now :P

I'll get some decent pictures up over the next couple of days, and possibly something from an auto-cross as soon as early May.

Sweet!

I'm happy you got her running again. The weather is perfect [around here] for a car like that...

:D Yes more pics please.
The MRS is one of my many options as my next car.
It would be nice to see some pics of your car in action as well at your next auto x event.

He's trying to tell us that he's gonna have that thing boosted, rubbered, engined and geared and resting on rock hard road race suspension in no time.

Don't you just hate that?

After years of fiddling, I've come to the conclusion that sticky tires are the absolute WORST mod you can do to your car.

After sticky tires, you'll need better shocks to control the extra body motion... then better springs to match the shocks... or even coil-overs... then better anti-roll bars to match everything else... then better brakes, because your stock brakes are too weak to utilize all the grip... then that oil cooler, because you're going sideways so fast your new engine is starting to go...

Congrats... hope you have fun on the autocross. My car isn't even halfway done... still have the oil cooler, brakes and camshafts to go... Gads... might miss the summer season entirely... :(

So, Cody, are you going to get a ballin' C-One bodykit so you can ride like Kogashiwa Kai?

I'd imagine something a little more functional and a little less glamorous...

I was considering the lip kit and side skirts for the car before I had to replace the engine, but that will all wait till at least this winter now, I believe. Not sure if I am gonna bother with the Siebon hood and lip though, as I've read mixed bits on fitment. The lip kit and such goes like this, just imagine all black and you'll have a good idea what I intend to make the car look like...

Hey Cody, its nice to hear you got your car running again. 👍 So any new pics of the car? :D As for the body kits, I could already imagine how clean and simple that body kit is painted in black..... But if you want to go overboard with style (and if your cash strapped as well) you could get this body kit....

Its teh sex.....

A duck? It's one of the most ugly MR's I've ever seen... I'm not a real fan of the other MR's either... :indiff:

Instead, what about this?

MR-S + dark colour + five-spoke rims + hard top = WIN!

Azure, you have GOT to get a hard top

I have been dreaming for one of these for a loooong time, coolest thing Toyota ever produced?

Hardtop on an '03

I would like to get a hardtop but it would run me about $2400 USD at the moment... which is just too much to justify for the car, since I won't be driving it in the winter and I do like having the top down.

Looks like a soft top to me.

Yes it is, my apologies. I was still thinking about that green MR-S someone else posted a while back :P

Azure, that is quite the lot of money, but hey, at least it lives again, be sure to check your oil now 👍

but they cut mdown on wind noouse and such. Its nice but top DWI crew

Removing the original top and motor and such and replacing it with a after market hard top can benefit to the weight of the car. In some cases it may improve aerodynamics also.

There is no motor, its a manual top. So there would really be no benefit in weight. Aerodynamics, perhaps. Chassis rigidity, maybe but it already has an amazing chassis.

If I do anything that involves a wide-body kit, it will be this:

Though it seems impossible to find anything about it except stuff that is in Japanese. :indiff:

You've bought a convertible and are concerned about wind noise?

No, I was just saying its one of the benefits to getting a hardtop. I rock the top down 24/7, so I couldn't careless.

What still amazes me is the dynamics of this car; it combines the wonderful MR early power on and oversteer dynamics with more control thanks to the slightly longer wheelbase. Its just confidence inspiring.

It just needs some new (same or less weight) sheet metal and i'd love it!

I'm still a Miata guy personally for the small roadster, but that doesn't really matter here.

How big of an engine did you drop in it?

I'm guessing you've tried the Toyota dealerships and TRD catalogues and all that already. For instance, I can only buy the Honda cloths I buy from the single catalogue at the local dealer.

So, I almost blew the car up. Well, not entirely. Fuel rail has a leak in it, but I had a spare laying around from the other, blown, motor. Crisis averted.

Also rocking mis-matched wheels right now because, well, I kind of destroyed the rear tires that I had on it before :sly:

Eek... fuel rail leak... scary... but your exhaust manifold is in the rear, right? So it's not leaking right onto it...

Mhmmm... update... turbo MR-S here is hitting close to 400 whp... next thing I know, the engine is in pieces on the shop floor. No... didn't blow up... but the owner took one look at the power curve and decided he wanted forged everything, so they took it all apart... good decision, I think... :D
