I know everybody has 200 points on the tsukuba races, just wanted to add I just got 200 points on the normal & hard tsukuba races. Normal race I used a standard nismo 270R, with NOS and race qualifying tires, did not use NOS and won by 10+ seconds. Hard race used an standard Audi A4 touring car, NOS & race qualifying tires, again no need for NOS and won by 8+ seconds.

Wish all races were that easy.:(

Hi guys,

I was just wondering what your weapon of choice was to do the FGT @ nurb. I have tried the mazda 787 but i can not seem to keep it on the road. I tried to use some settings i found for sarthe (because i thought that was bumpy to) but just cant keep control, and rear tires are only lasting three laps. any sugestions would be greatly appreciated.

Won FGT at the ring for 200 points last night with the 787b(Pal version) by about 70 seconds after 2 failed attempts, 4800 a-spec miles on the clock, Turbo 4 and some extra weight for the 200 points. Started on R2/R1 for 3 laps and then change to R3/R2 and pit every 2 laps. Not sure if these setting help but is what i used, found that i could push hard on R3/R2 tyres instead of running half the race on the grass with Harder tyres to give the F1 cars a race.

Headcases, you ran quite a stiff set-up on the 787. i was able to do the ring with a much softer set-up, used 787 no oil with turbo 4 R2/R1 no ballast for 200 points. thanks for the reply though

After a bit of advice, doing the dream car championship for 200p a race, fairly easy using a suzuki gsx r4 but have a dilemma doing the test course as my motor cannot keep pace with 2 cars in particular, a Zonda LM and a Ford GT 04, can quit the tournament but would rather not. I have all the mods for the suzuki, is there anyway I can increase the top speed for this car so I can compete?

Refer to the setup contained in the link in post #39. That's what I did, anyway. 👍 Just be very smooth or you'll spin out quite easily.

Thanks for the reply, I actually just figured it out myself, set auto to 25 and NOS to max power, managed to nail the zonda coming out the last turn.:D

Ugh, this is frustrating. I've found all the FGT events so far (and I've done all but two) to be relatively easy (mostly because the NTSC AI seem to be a good bit slower). But for some reason, I'm really struggling with Tokyo, of all races. nige said it was quite easy but I think it's anything but. I'm using a black 787B, turbo 4, R2, default setup, and when I lose the draft, I lag 1.5 seconds behind per lap. Not only that, but some of the AI don't come in until lap 12! That's exactly when my front tires are glowing orange, so no way can I stretch it to lap 15. Should I be using the R8 or FGT instead? Should I use a particular setup I don't know about? Do I have to wallride? :indiff: Thanks for any responses.

EDIT: Thanks to OA and a better setup, I won with a 40 second MOV. I think I could have won legitimately but it would have been a bit close for comfort! Second place in this one pitted only four times, everyone else five. I built up a 35-40 second lead (don't remember exactly) by wallriding the 180-degree right and the last downhill left for the first half of the race and then drove legitimately for the remainder.

EDIT 2: I've got the set now! OA, you didn't really articulate just how much easier Suzuka was in the FGT than in the 787B. I copied Car-less' setup, kept everything else default, and pitted every six laps (vs. AI's 8). I was two seconds faster than second place on a good lap, meaning I could have done it cleanly, but I didn't realize that and cut the final corner for the first 25 laps. :dunce: So I got a 75 second MOV instead of 50 seconds or so. Maybe later, if I reach max or get stuck, I'll redo FGT Tokyo, SS, Motegi, and Suzuka cleanly, along with a bunch of Ram and GSX-R/4 races in different cars. But right now I just care about the 200! :D

Well, I'm disappointed to have noted yet another discrepancy in the NTSC(NA) game versus the PAL version, which of course makes things harder for us. :grumpy:

Namely the pit intervals for the AI F1 cars in the Formula Gran Turismo World Championship, which means that I'll be unable to repeat Vash666 & mynameissport's tremendous feats of getting 200 A-spec points in a stock Playstation Pescarolo C60 / Judd Race Car '04. :irked:

From my previous experiences and a couple of race reports (1 & 2) by bigjoe and this post from jdw we can see how the NTSC AI pits compared to those reported earlier in this thread by Car-less, Vash666 & mynameissport.

Code:
Race PAL Pits	NTSC Pits
1 Tokyo R246 9 laps 11 - 12 laps
2 Super Speedway 10 - 12 laps	13 - 14 laps
3 New York 9 - 10 laps	11 - 12 laps
4 High Speed Ring	9 - 10 laps	12 laps
5 Grand Valley 8 laps 8 laps
6 Le Sarthe I 3 laps 4 laps
7 Cote D'Azur 8 - 9 laps 9 laps
8 Seoul 16 - 17 laps	19 - 21 laps
9 Infineon Raceway	8 laps 10 - 11 laps
10 Laguna Seca 10 - 11 laps	11 laps
11 Twin Ring Motegi	8 laps 9 laps
12 Nurburgring 2 laps 2 laps
13 El Capitan 7 laps 8 laps
14 Fuji 2005 9 laps 9 - 10 laps
15 Suzuka Circuit	7 laps 8 laps

Some of the races are the same, and should be manageable, however, there's many races where the much longer gap between stops for the NTSC runners means that the AI gains back at least 1, and in some cases 2 pitstops which are a crucial part of gaining time for the driver's car. :(
It certainly makes Tokyo impossible. 👎

Going to have to re-think this one for 200 points as it'll probably mean going back to it as individual races when I've finished my current car collection & driving quest. :indiff:

Smallhorses, I encourage you to give this a shot anyway. From what I've gathered from the 200 point thread in particular, and elsewhere as well, the PAL AI seem to be faster than NTSC AI. Of course this also means they pit more often, but the two effects seem to cancel each other out for the most part. My theory (not supported by any evidence but it seems to fit) is that the PAL AI are set on B-spec-equivalent pace setting "4", while NTSC is on setting "3".

Tokyo will certainly be difficult; however, the AI cars that pit every 12 laps are the slower ones and also lose a good bit of time on their 12th lap. If you stay mistake-free and in the draft, and pit every 15 laps, you should be able to win it. Vash666 won by over 1 minute, about the equivalent of two pit stops, which is encouraging. I actually suspect Motegi Road and Suzuka will be quite a bit harder, judging by what Vash666 and mynameissport have said.

A very easy 200 points was taken at New York with the 2J against the Formula GT cars. With 931 hp, 14 kg ballast and R3 tires, pitting every 13 laps gave one fewer stops than the FGT cars. Qualifying was not necessary, as the 2J has the pace to pass the field. Fastest lap was 1:16.725 using 3 wallrides: End of main straight, 7th and W 55th St, and the left toward Central Park on W 57th St. Springs and shocks were softened to allow easy riding over the curbs.

Again, 200 points were easily taken at Cote d'Azur with the Chaparral 2J versus the FGT cars. Complete setup information for these two events can be had at GTVault.com, setup #7264.

Note that I was just testing my car setup strategy, but no doubt this would be possible without fiddling as much as I did. The MOV against the Audi was 0.154, and I didn't manage to win on the reverse version (though someone probably could). If anyone is looking for a fun 200 point race, you might want to try this.

I know most of the posts in this thread are for all-'round cars that win say, every race in the FGT Cup, but If this doesn't fit here that there really should be a thread just for the really fun 200 point races.

FGT in the Pescarolo-Judd for 200 A-spec, NTSC

After winning easily (my favorite thing) on the slow, twisty tracks of New York and Cote d'Azure in the 2J, then running into difficulties on faster circuits, I switched to a Pescarolo-Judd and met with quick and easy success at Twin Ring Motegi SS, and Laguna. I then began working on a setup for La Sarthe which emphasizes 6 laps of tire wear on R3's. By chance, I tried it Nurburgring and found the FGT's were totally slaughtered by virtue of equal speed and 4 full laps on R3/R2's. If I can do this, then anybody can. Here's my setup:

Suzaka F1 for 200 .
Will a lap time of 1'42 and 6 lap pit stop schedule be enough to win this race in a F1 car set up for 200 points.

The F1 AI seem pretty aggresive at Suzuka.

Here's a snippet from my notes for this series, doing it the 'hard way' with an F1 tuned for 200 A-Spec against other F1's !

Suzuka

Too much understeer with the set-up I've used for the past couple of races. Put Front Toe to -1, Rear Bound to 4, Final Drive to 3.400, Ride height 53/55. Still no good. Adjust Downforce and Ballast and have a go.

After a bad start made worse by driving 'angry', this turned out to be relatively easy. The new tuning worked well and the only bad mistakes all race were two instances caused by pushing too hard.

I don't think so, Uncle Harry. After digging around a bit in my diary, I unearthed my 200 point FGT race at Suzuka, under which it said "Time: 1'36.499." Of course, that's my fastest lap, not a consistent one, and it may have been one of the laps I shortcut, but that's a significant difference. I think I pitted 8 times (every 6 laps? I wrote nothing down but the MOV about this race), which is about a 60 second difference between you and me, equating to approximately 1 second per lap, and I'm fairly sure my consistent laps were 1'40 or below. And now I see Car-less' post, where his fastest lap was 1'37.2 with a 65 second MOV. I guess you need to sacrifice tire life for speed or just set up the car better so you can turn faster times.

Edit: Treed. sukerkin's information is more useful, anyway. But I did tree Car-less!

Edit 2: This belongs in Extreme Events, by the way. I think a moderator should move this there so it's easier for others to find.

I don't think so...
My notes from this race...

15. Suzuka - 53 Laps
AI pits every 7 laps.
I pit every 6 laps.
Mostly clean racing - occasional offs.
Total Time ~1:32:xx, Fastest Lap 1:37.185, MOV ~65s.
NOTE:- Setting your car up well makes all the difference between a satisfying race and a frustrating one. The right setup and the right line can really add up on this long and complex track. I put in around 30 practise laps before I was sure that I had it right.

Big thankyou guys.
Used Sukerian's Settings and they helped me a lot. 👍
Practice got me down to high 1:38's best and I thought that would be good enough .
Race time 1:33:24.829 with a MOV by about 18 seconds. I was about + 34 seconds at lap 42, but a few lapses in concentration and some offs on the next 6 laps saw the lead drop to about + 6 seconds.
Best lap was a 1:38.1xx with most under 1:40.00 accept for the few bad laps.
:) All F1 now done for 200 points.

I'm working my way thru the FGT races, trying as always for 200 points, but doing it "the easy way" by exploiting a variety of cars. My trusty 2J was good for the slow ones at Monte Carlo and New York, and now my Pescarolo-Judd has won it's 6th at La Sarthe. This was super-easy: not qualifying, driving cautiously but leading by lap 3, going for 6 lap stints on R3's and literally cruising at the finish, up by over 45 seconds. Pitting as they do every 4 laps, the open-wheelers had no chance. Here's my setup:

Can I get some ideas on the Capri races? I really don't want to use the Ram or GSX for this. I was silly enough to Ram the second race, but the first one has 192 recorded. Presumably I did it in a pissant little Dauhatsu Copen I was using (60-something hp), but it was 2yrs ago so I dunno.

Can anyone suggest a car other than the Copen that can get 200pts w/ a bit of tuning? Money is no object, but I'm a pretty crap driver.

I bet there are cars that can do the job, but they might be hard to find and would almost certainly need nitrous. The hard races can be won for 200 without too much trouble in a Clio cup car or similar, but the easy and normal level races are notoriously a pain without the "cheater" cars. The AI has no qualms about barging into walls, and the stop-and-go layout of the track, plus its painful steep uphills, makes it hard to gain an advantage over more powerful cars. So in short, no, I can't offer you any advice, except to say that it probably won't be easy and will almost certainly require tuning.

I've recorded the first fifteen fields (NTSC), following a reset as detailed below. I've found that they are the same for the AMG CLK GTR and for the Motul Pitwork Z. Included with the fields are the Aspec points offered for the Motul with R2's, full DF and a Stage 3 Turbo @721 HP and a PWR (I know... it's really WPR:)) of 1.498. The Motul is pretty successful for 200 points with the ninth field, but the added AI strength of the 12th field allows R3's on the front and the car becomes much more fun to whip up on those LMP's. The Sauber starting first makes the 14th lineup really difficult. Damn rabbits!! One could probably use this as a guide to setting up other cars for the series. Slightly lower PWR can be accounted for with some ballast, or less downforce, etc. Higher PWR gets better tires! You decide what works best for you.

Here are the settings I used to sweep the event as a championship using the MPZ...

vs Lineup #9 (NTSC/USA)

Nissan MOTUL PITWORK Z (JGTC) '04 (3811.7 miles)

After running in the CdlSI enduro and the GTWC, I gave my MPZ an Oil Change, Refreshed the Rigidity, and gave this series a go. At the end of the 6th race, the MPZ showed 728 SettingsHP, and I gave it a mid-series Oil Change to bring it back to 740.

I couldn't make the R3s last at Autumn Ring and Nurburgring, and I wanted to use a lighter setup for Test Course. I qualified P1 for each race except Test Course (P2), and I cut through the Ford and Dunlop chicanes at CdlSI, but good blocking should suffice.

My run at The Ring was the sloppiest I've had so far. I spun a couple of times, but still managed to win by 4 seconds. So far, the MPZ is the fastest car I've run there, which made for an exciting race, but definitely not clean.

I hope this helps others who want to avoid having to do races individually... in cars that aren't OMR-eligible...

The MPZ finished with 4098.0 miles and 731 SettingsHP

Qualified P1 for all races, and they were all quite easy and clean.

At Test Course, it's important to block the FGTLMII for its qualifying hot lap, so that you can use it to get into the 200s. Otherwise, this car will struggle to hold 180. For the race, I stayed behind the '02 FGT and backed off 2/3 through the final turn, then hit the bottle and passed for the lead just before exiting the corner.

At CdlSII, it's crucial to cut through the Ford and Dunlop chicanes, either for qualifying and/or the race. If you start the race behind them, they'll break away early and won't be caught, but good blocking would suffice once in the lead.

The other races were comfortable wins, and not all of them require use of the bottle. 2000 more points, in an OMR-eligible car!!!👍👍

Have A Great Drive!

Still 10 FGT races to go

http://www.gtvault.com/gt4/setup-view/s_sid::7548/Beat-Version-Z-Dotini2001/

The purpose of this setup is to take 200 A-spec points at the normal George V Paris rally, both directions, in the cleanest possible style; without nitrous, wallrides or opponent car interference of any kind.

Equip your euphoniously dubbed Beat Z '93 as above, adding port polish and engine balancing, but certainly no fresh oil. Lengthen 5th gear to 0.953 and enter the race against the Subaru Impreza WRX STi sp.C '04. You will overwhelm him with your cornering speed.

This is a fun race to do over and over again, as the course has a nice rhythm, and the prizes are worth 285,624 Cr. for only 6 laps of wheel time.

Edit 2/3/09: This same setup also take the easy George V rally versus the Lancia Delta HF Evoluzione, also in sanitary clean style. Drop the chip, go to T1 and add 182 ballast. See my setup for details.

PF, here is a Beat Z '93 setup that will get you 200 A-spec at the Capri Rally (easy) in both directions. Nitrous is not required, but I confess to wallriding in the normal direction, plus opponent car interference in the reverse direction. At least it avoids the RAM, the GSX-R/4, and nitrous.

...and here is an Odyssey setup for 200 A-spec in the normal Capri Rally, both directions:

The Honda Element is another easy option...
Add:
Racing Brakes
Full Custom Suspension
NA1 tuning (Gives 198HP on selling screen, can also apparently add Racing Exhaust & Racing Chip if required)
Triple Plate Clutch
Racing Flywheel
Carbon Driveshaft
1.5 way Differential
Full Custom Transmission

Versus the Audi Quattro '82 gives some of the easiest 200 point races I've driven at Umbria & Capri rallies.

Anyone with any good suggestions for Whistler Ice Race, normal difficulty, both directions? Haven't got reverse hard either, if I'm not mistaken.
Can't use NOS, and preferably not the Ram..

As we have noted over in the stock-car thread, there is a difference in points offered between snow and dirt tires, so you have to have an even bigger handicap in terms of power and weight in order to get 200 points, compared to the dirt races.

Edit: As I was writing the above, it occured to me the Celica Rally Car you face in normal must have a PWR similar to the Impreza Rally Car that offered 200 points for the CZ-3 in the hard races.
Sure enough, with 100 units of ballast, I got 200 in both directions. Quite easy races, the Celica is slow off the line, so I took the lead before the first corner in both races.

Apologies for the extreme length and density of these notes on my attempts to 200 A-Spec the Polyphony Digital Cup. For those interested only in the 'meat' of where I got my best points then try searching the post for Element and/or 200 A-Spec. That should jump you to appropriate regions of the text :embarrassed:. The rest of the epistle details a fairly extensive liturgy of what didn't work .

My first run at this was in a fairly highly tuned TVR Cerbera Speed Six. The A-Spec values were accordingly low as I massively outgunned the opposition (which was NISMO Fairlady Z S-Tune Concept, Peugeot 206, Honda Jazz 1.4 dsi se sp, Fiat Barchetta Giovane Due, Mazda RX-7 GT Limited.

The series is obviously intended for very ‘weak’ (non-GT) cars in the main. I shall play for a while, running cars I actually want to drive and see what grids come out.

First a Jaguar XKR running 348HP (Black Oil) with all the suspension and transmission upgrades (except Roll Cage).

Twin Ring Motegi

Grid: Honda CR-X SiR ’90, Lotus Esprit V8 ’02, Mazda MX-5 ’89, Peugeot 106 S16 ’03, Mini One ’02

Poled with 2’15.024 (up 5.5 seconds). The XKR suffers from braking understeer in that it feels like the fronts are locking up into turns. A-Spec 4. BL 2’11.273. Obviously the Esprit was the ‘Rabbit’ of the AI but I still had a huge MOV. The CR-X came third and MX-5 fourth. Lapped the 106 and the Mini.

Try a second-hand, black-oil, MX-5 1800RS ’00, tricked out with suspension and drive-train upgrades. The first grid was:

Ford GT ’05, Subaru Imprezza Sti Prodrive Style ’01, Honda Integra Type R (DC5) ’03, Mazda RX-7 GT-Limited ’85, Peugeot 206cc ’01

I expect that it’ll come as no surprise if I let slip that I qualified third and didn’t bother to race. The MX-5 handles lovely tho’.

Try another grid. Again got an uber-rabbit in the form of the Mercedes SL55 AMG (R230). The rest of the grid was Subaru Impreza Sti Prodrive Style ’01, Honda S2000 ’01, Toyota Supra SZ-R ’97, Peugeot 106 S16 ’03. I handled those easily enough but the Merc poled by 13 seconds over me.

Grid shuffle time … poled by 0.399 with 2’27.107 vs grid of:

Honda S2000 ’01, Toyota Supra SZ-R ’97, Peugeot 206cc ’01, Mazda MX-5 ’89, Peugeot 106 S16 ’03

Try the race and see how I fare. A-Spec = 85 which is disappointing. The S2000 rabbited away to a 30 second victory. Not much point in continuing really but I’ll try the next race to see if I can block him out.

Seattle Reverse

Poled up 3.7 seconds after some terrible driving with 2’01.795. BL 1’58.6 MOV 5 seconds with only one block required on Lap 1.

Grid shuffle to see if I get any insights into higher A-Spec ratings and identifying rabbits. NISMO Fairlady Z S-tune Concept by GT is a rabbit but the RX-7 GT-Limited and Fiat Barchetta Giovane Due are added to the list of beatable cars.

Twin Ring Motegi

Poled up 8.5 seconds with 2’26.081 vs grid of:

Audi S3 ’02, Honda Integra Type R (DC5) ’03, Mazda RX-7 GT-Limited ’85, Honda CR-X SiR ’90 and Peugeot 206cc ’01.

A-Spec = 107 on S2’s with zero ballast. BL 2’25’422 MOV Huge. Finishing order was as per qualifying order (given above).

Seattle Reverse

Carrying 200KG ballast, poled by 8 seconds with 2’02.458. A-Spec = 133. BL 2’01.009 MOV more than thirty seconds.

Infineon Stock Car Course

Try downgrading to N3 tyres and see what happens. Poled by 1.3 seconds with 1’38.030. Could be tight this one! A-Spec = 159. Very tight win of 0.2 seconds after holding the lead reasonably comfortably all the way. BL 1.35.4. That was less fun than I would like tho’ as I was always looking for a line to block the AI rather than one which was faster for me.

R246 Reverse

Tried to qualify with the above hardware set-up and came in 5th by 3 seconds. Tried with S1’s and was still 1.5 seconds off pole. Fitted the Custom Gearbox (AutoSet 6) and took pole by 0.1 seconds with 2’13.432. Try the race with AutoSet 5. 142 A-Spec. BL2’11.418 MOV 0.088! The AI has such a speed advantage down the back straight that I have a lead of two seconds at the last corner and they’re bashing my rear bumper by the SF line! Oddly, the past two races have seen the Integra making the running and then the S3 takes it’s place at the end and the Integra drops back to 4th.

Fuji 2005

Given the high speed nature of this course, I may have trouble with the AI. Running S1’s and 200KG Ballast I qualified second with 2’18.328 (down 1.018 seconds). Try S2’s. Poled by 0.673 with 2’16.639 (the Integra is second on the grid). 133 A-Spec. BL 2’12.631 MOV 4.125 seconds. Had an Integra use me as a brake into Turn 1 on laps 2 and 3 but other than that managed to gradually build a lead. Couldn’t have done it on S1’s tho’ I don’t think, not without a lot of blocking.

Motorland Reverse

Qualified on S2’s with 200kg Ballast and AutoSet at 4. Poled up 1.5 seconds with 50.797. Tempted to try S1’s and see where it gets me. A-Spec = 142. BL 49.283 MOV Huge. The S3 was really challenging me up until he pitted on lap 9ish. I suspect it was an accidental pit but it put him way back and he never recovered. The Integra couldn’t match me here and I just kept going away from him.

Circuit de la Sarthe

The straight-line power nature of this track means I can’t hope for decent A-Spec I reckon. Try to qualify on S1’s with 200kg Ballast. Run 5’28.063 and end up second to the Integra on the grid by over 9 seconds. Try running on S2’s and hope for the best (it just takes TOO long to qualify here). 133 A-Spec but didn’t get it. BL 5’24.4 and second place by a long way (about 24 seconds behind the Integra). La Sarthe and the A-Spec system just do not mix. Move on.

El Capitan Reverse

Thoroughly disgruntled with the series, qualify on S2’s and 200kg Ballast. Poled up 7 seconds with 2’15.677 (not so good now are you Mr. Integra?!). Drop back to S1’s. A-Spec = 142. BL 1’13.088 MOV Huge.

Suzuka

Running S1’s and 200kg Ballast, poled by 4 seconds with 2’44.615. A-Spec = 142. BL 2’40.146 MOV 5 seconds. Easy really other than lap 1 when I had to fend off less than tender affections from both the S3 and Integra who thought that ramming was an acceptable form of braking.

Nurburgring

Shall attempt this without qualifying first, just to see if I can. S1’s and 200kg Ballast … nope, disaster trying to get past the back markers ended up with me in the sand. Reset and accept that I’ll have to qualify. Use S2’s and 200kg ballast for qualifying run. Poled with 8’56.066 (up 5.398 seconds). Tempted to use S1’s for the race. 142 A-Spec. 8’54.993 MOV about 0.4 seconds. Not as bad as it sounds tho’ as I had the edge at all times and was only forced to defend my line in a couple of places.

The Integra proved to be a hidden rabbit after the first race and was always the major oppostion.

Try the series again in a Toyota MR2 1600 G-Limited SC ’86 with all the non-HP bells and whistles (including a roll cage).

Twin Ring Motegi

Got the same grid as before on second attempt:

Audi S3 ’02, Honda Integra Type R (DC5) ’03, Mazda RX-7 GT-Limited ’85, Honda CR-X SiR ’90 and Peugeot 206cc ’01.

Poled by 1.360 with 2’33.171, carrying 81KG ballast on S2’s. The MR2 is obviously much slower than the MX-5 but it is only 128HP with black oil. This could be a blocking fight but there’s only one way to find out. It was actually a good race with my maintaining a lead of between 0.8 and 2.5 seconds all the way without blocking. BL 2’28.002, A-Spec 134. I’d spannered an oversteering set-up onto the MR2 and once I learned to use that oversteer then she wasn’t all that much slower than the MX-5 here.

Seattle Reverse

Try to qualify with N3 tyres and 200KG Ballast. Poled by 2.256 seconds with 2’06.665. She’s a bit squirmy down the hill on cold tyres but other than that she’s fine. 173 A-Spec … or would’ve been except that the Integra got by me and I couldn’t catch him. Try again, this time with a –10 Weight Distribution change. Poled up 4.798 seconds with 2’05.600. 173 A-Spec gained with BL 2’04.565, MOV 1.411 seconds over the S3 (nearly five seconds up on the Integra). Don’t think that the –10 Wt Dist helped really; it did reduced the hairyness down the hill but interfered with the nice oversteer drift in others (here of course I mean proper ‘racing’ drift rather than the silly flash kind).

Infineon Stock Car Course

Oddly, despite the grid being the same, I had to run much faster to take pole – 1’37.052 (up only 0.2 seconds). I was running N3’s and 200KG ballast and had tweaked the rear dampers to iron out some of the lift-off oversteer. 173 A-Spec but the Integra kept ramming me into Turn 1 every lap until he managed to spin me out on lap 8 …grr! Luckily, I’ve gotten into the habit of saving every race now so I can go again but it’s still infuriating. On retry, adjust rear springs up to 14.4 from 8.4 to see if a 40/60 layout works. Seemed to aid the handling a lot but caused the brakes to lock easier (or work better, not sure which yet). Poled with 1’37.735, up 1.561 (which goes to show it’s always worth reloading if you’re having trouble as the AI seems to have a random factor built in). Again couldn’t hold off the Integra, despite running 1’35’s. Switch off the PS2 in disgust. Try again the next day. Poled with 1’37.381 (up 1.911 seconds). BL 1’35.079 MOV 0.3 seconds over the S3 (the Integra made all the running but disappeared on the last lap).

The brakes are not right on the car, that’s for sure and I think that altho’ the handling feels much better with those hard rear springs, they may be too hard. Work on the brakes and suspension a bit.

Tokyo R246 Reverse

Running N3’s and 200KG ballast got me second place on the grid, behind the Integra with 2’15.364 (down nearly a second). Swap to S1 tyres and try a radical revision of the springs to 5/10 from 9.4/14.4. Poled with 2’13.842 by .006 seconds ! It’s about the pace from the last run tho’, so it may be okay. I think the springs are a bit off at 5/10 however; change them to 8/12. A-Spec = 157 but couldn’t hold off the Audi which bashed me out of the way and sped off on lap 5. There seemed to be a problem at some points of the track where the MR2 just wouldn’t accelerate. Lengthen the AutoSet to 4 and stiffen the damper bound to 6/6. Poled with 2’12.224 (up 1.528). .069 MOV and a very stressful race involving constant blocking. The lengthened gearbox was a mistake as I never bettered my pole time (too busy fighting off the AI). Not fun, especially not for only 157 A-Spec.

Fuji confirmed that the Integra is just too fast for the little MR2 on S1 tyres; I couldn’t hold him as he was ramming and nudging me at every opportunity (that’s despite polling with 2’16.909 (up nearly 2 seconds)). I’ve had enough of this now – abandon the series as it’s fairly fruitless struggling this much for non-200 A-Spec.

Shift tack and try a more powerful and heavier car, the BMW 120i first, maybe the 120d if it doesn’t work out.

The car is upgraded in all the handling and transmission ways, with an array of tyres available. Qualified on pole with a 2’30 by a couple of seconds but I think that the suspension is going to need a bit of work as she turns in too sharply and then understeers on the way out of corners. A-Spec 133 with S1 tyres and 200KG Ballast got BL 2’30.357 MOV 0.690 seconds. So the A-Spec points are about the same as the MR2 but the performance is less –shrugs, Nippon bias strikes again perhaps (or maybe it’s because I didn’t use the Custom Gearbox and ran with the standard one instead)?

See what the Diesel version gets me. The first grid contained an Sti Prodrive Impreza, so despite a qualifying run of 2’28.9 (running S1’s and no Ballast) I couldn’t get pole:

Subaru Impreza Sti Prodrive Style ’01, Audi S3 ’02, Toyota Corolla RUNX Z Aerotourer ’02, Honda Jazz 1.4 dsi Se Sp ’01, VW Lupo 1.4 ’02

Tweaked the suspension a bit and got a 2’28.3 but still second on the grid. Shortened the AutoSet to 4 from 8 as I’d only been getting into fifth gear for a second or so at the end of the main straight. It was actually slower by quite a bit – put it back to 8 and see if fitting an LSD makes a difference. It improved my lap time but not my grid place. I got 2’27.920 and was 2.5 seconds off the Impreza compared to 0.750 from before! I’ll run the race to see how the rest of the grid does but I expect to come second. A-Spec rating = 61. BL 2’27.755, 52 seconds behind the Impreza and six seconds in front of the Audi.

Shuffle the grids, trying out those that contain cars I’ve not yet seen in action in this series:

Chevrolet Camaro SS ’69, Mercedes SL 55 AMG (R230) ’02, Mini ONE ’02, Subaru Impreza Sti Prodrive Style ’01, Mazda RX-7 GT-Limited ’85

I know the Mercedes & the Impreza are rabbits but I’ll qualify to gauge the Camaro. I got a qualie lap of 2’27.280 and was 4th on the grid behind the Merc, the Chevy and the Subaru. Didn’t bother running the race as you can imagine.

BMW M3 ’04, Chevrolet Camaro SS ’69, Toyota Yaris RS 1.5 ’00, Audi S3 ’02, Toyota Corolla RUNX Z Aerotourer ’02

Ran qualifying of 2’27.686 and ended up 3rd on the grid behind the M3 and the Camaro. Shuffle on.

Ran a terrible 2’29.319 and qualified up 9 seconds versus grid of:

Alfa Romeo 156 2.5 V6 24V ’98, Honda CR-X SiR ’90, Peugeot 106 S16 ’03, Honda Jazz 1.4 dsi Se Sp ’01, Mini ONE ’02

I suspect the A-Spec will be awful but I’ll try a run on N3 tyres with 200KG Ballast. A-Spec = 45. BL 2’32.194 MOV monumental. I won’t run any more of the series as there’s clearly no A-Spec reward in it.

The grid of Lotus Esprit V8 ‘02, Mazda MX-5 ’89, Peugeot 106 S16 ’03, Honda CR-X SiR ’90 and Fiat Barchetta Giovane Due ’00 was an annoyance in that I could beat all the others on N3’s with 200KG Ballast but wouldn’t stand a prayer against the Esprit :grr:.

Qualified 2’28.142 on S2’s with zero ballast, up 5 seconds versus grid of:

Honda S2000 ’01, Mazda RX-7 GT-Limited ’85, Audi S3 ’02, Honda CR-X SiR ’90, Peugeot 106 S16 ’03

Try to run it on S1’s with 200KG Ballast. No good, could not restrain the S2000 which won by over 30 seconds. Only 105 A-Spec too. Give up on the idea.

Try with a tricked out Silvia Q’s S13 ’88.

A grid of Mazda RX-7 Spirit R Type A ’02, Toyota Supra SZ-R ’97, Toyota Corolla RUNX Z Aerotourer ’02, Honda Jazz 1.4 dsi Se Sp ’01 and Mini One ’02 looked promising but the RX-7 is too much of a rabbit. Running S2’s, added power (racing Exhaust and Chip) and zero ballast, I got a BL of 2’27.9 but finished 1 minute and 8 seconds behind the RX-7 … blimey!

Switch to the Honda Element, tricked with all the goodies and some power mods available.

Twin Ring Motegi

Poled with 2’31.684 by 3.507 seconds with a grid of:

Mazda RX-7 GT-Limited, Honda Integra Type R DC5, Peugeot 206cc, Mazda MX-5, Mini One

Running S3’s and 176HP get A-Spec = 171. MOV 1 second over the Integra with BL 1’29.9. Front tyre wear is very bad, even with a VCD fitted. May try to tune that out. The ridiculousness of this race cannot be overstated in that a Japanese Land Rover clone is the best car to use (other than the A-Spec glitched Dodge RAM of course).

Seattle Reverse

Poled with 2’05.005, up 3.808 seconds using S2 tyres and carrying 100KG Ballast @ +20. A-Spec = 186 BL 2’03.067 MOV 3.3 seconds.

Infineon Raceway Stock Car Course

Drop front tyres to S1 and Exhaust to Sports. Qualify on Pole with 1’38.009, up 0.975 over the Integra. A-Spec = 200. BL 1’36.083 MOV 1.543 seconds. Had to block into Turn 1 on most laps but that’s nothing new versus the Integra.

Tokyo R246 Reverse

Try upping the exhaust to Semi-Race and the Ballast to 111KG. That gave me a 2’18.165 and put me third on the grid. I think I may have to sacrifice A-Spec here. Put the Racing Exhaust on and dropped Ballast to 50 whilst putting S2/S3 tyres on. That got me 2’14.690, second on the grid by about half a second. Okay, fit NA Tune 1 to qualify with and then take it off to race (and block like crazy). Poled with 2’10.728, up 3 seconds. A-Spec = 182 but didn’t get it as, just like all the other races with the Integra in it, it just rams it’s way past and shoots off into the distance. Try again and reduce ballast to 41 to see what happens to the A-Spec value = 181. Again, can’t restrain the Integra. Try again with Ballast at 11KG –same result (violently hacked off with this now).

Get 173 A-Spec with 200KG Ballast and NA1 Tune (with gearbox AutoSet lengthened to 6). BL 2’12.7 MOV 0.5 seconds. Not a race I’d like any OLR drivers to watch with all the blocking and leaning going on.

Fuji 2005

Run this race with a Semi-Race Exhaust and see how that effects the A-Spec (qualified with a racing exhaust (didn’t note times)). A-Spec 196 (adding 40KG Ballast would bring that up to 200 A-Spec I think). BL 2’17.490 MOV 0.776 seconds. Again, a race of blocking on the straights.

Motorland Reverse

Drop the exhaust back to Sports for this track. Qualify with 0.52.143, up 1.147 seconds. Will the tyres last 19 laps? Only one way to find out. BL 50.439 MOV 0.193 seconds. The RX-7 was behind me all the way but never showed signs of being able to beat me. An easy 200 A-Spec race at last!

La Sarthe

Infuriating, as even with NA1 Tune and zero ballast (AutoSet = 6), I still get second on the grid behind the Integra (nearly nine seconds down with a 5’29.591). I have no chance it would seem. A-Spec would be 135 if I could win. MOL 20 seconds (3 seconds in front of the RX-7). It doesn’t seem that there is a grid in the game that will successfully amass good A-Spec points in these long-straights races.

El Capitan Reverse

Running S1/S2 tyres, Sports Exhaust and Chip with 100KG Ballast, poled up 1.629 seconds with 2’19.935. I’d left the AutoSet at 6 by mistake but it seems okay so I won’t change it. A-Spec = 200. BL 2’19.4 with 0.267 MOV. Hard fought, even here as the long S/F straight allowed the Integra and the RX-7 to make up the two to three seconds I’d made on them through the twisty bits.

Suzuka

Qualify with more power and then run the race in 200 A-Spec trim. Couldn’t do it, they’re just too fast and when they come at me together I can’t keep them behind me. Incredibly annoying. Try again. MOV 0.259 seconds BL 2’46.857. Blocktastic action – most unsatisfactory having to run races this way.

Nurburgring

Running NA1 tune and zero ballast, poled with 9’01.345 by nearly 7 seconds. Try the race with Racing Exhaust, Chip and NA1 tune with 200KG Ballast on S1/S2 tyres. A-Spec = 160. MOV 0.6 seconds with blocking akimbo against the scarily fast Integra. BL 9’06.

Having completed (almost) a reasonable scoring run with the Element, I wonder if there are any others of similar points scoring ability to be found? In the last race I ran above, the Element has a power to weight of 8.447.

A Mitsubishi 3000GT SR ’98 with 200KG Ballast gives power/weight of 8.854 (note that the ’95 model is 10KG heavier and so may be worth investigation for extra points). Trick out an example with the suspension and transmission augmentations. If nothing else, it’ll be good tuning practice.

The first line-up I try has a NISMO Fairlady Z S Tune in it, so I have to qualify using lots of extra power. Run at non-adjusted HP and see if I can block my way to victory. Nope. Put a lap up on the Jazz and the Barchetta tho’ and the car handles fine (altho’ there is a problem with front tyre-wear to be overcome) :D.

Versus my usual racing grid (the one with the Integra and the S3), I poled at Twin Ring Motegi with 2’28.913 (up 5.9 seconds) . I ran no HP mods, S1/S2 tyres and 200KG Ballast. A-Spec = 99, which is disappointing. BL 2’27.592 MOV 5.722 seconds over the Audi. It was nice to run the race without having to constantly block but it was a shame that the Points reward wasn’t there.

Grid Subaru Impreza Sti Prodrive Style ’01, Audi S3 ’02, Toyota Corolla RUNX Z Aerotourer ’02, Honda Jazz 1.4 dsi Se Sp ’01, VW Lupo 1.4 ’02 only yielded 77 A-Spec points (and I couldn’t beat the Impreza anyhow).

Grid NISMO Fairlady Z S-tune concept, Chevrolet Camaro SS ’69, Subaru Impreza Sti Prodrive Style ’01, Audi S3 ’02, Honda Integra Type R (DC5) ’03. Adding Racing Exhaust, Chip and Stage 1 NA tune gave me Pole with 2’21.613 (up 0.149 seconds). A-Spec 136. All that changed was that rather than having to block the Audi and the Integra, I had to block the Fairlady and the Camaro.

Grid Honda S2000 ’01, Audi S3 ‘02, Honda CR-X SiR ’90, Mazda RX-7 GT-Limited ’85, Peugeot 106 S16 ’03. Poled with 2’27.888, up 5.340 seconds. A-Spec = 99 in a race where yet again I garner numerous dents in the rear of the car.

I finally accept that the series is fatally flawed and can only be 200 A-Specced using either NOS or one of the glitched vehicles discovered so far (the Dodge RAM or the Honda Element).

Return to the Honda Element, as it seems less obviously ‘cheat mode’ than the RAM.

Get grid of:

Honda Integra Type R (DC5) ’03, Mazda RX-7 GT-Limited ’85, Mazda MX-5 ’89, Peugeot 206cc ’01, Mini One ’02

Twin Ring Motegi

Running with upped HP but still carrying 200KG Ballast on S1/S2 tyres took P1 on the grid. Run with Sports Exhaust and Chip (170HP), 100KG Ballast @+20 on S1/S2 tyres. AutoSet =4. 200 A-Spec. BL 2’34.408 MOV 1.232 seconds. Had to block a lot against the Integra/RX-7 tag-team.

Seattle Reverse

I don’t think that the shortened AutoSet was a help, so put it back to 6. Poled in 200 A-Spec trim with 2’05.687 (up 3.119 seconds). BL 2’03.643 MOV 1.308 seconds.

Infineon Raceway

I already have 200 A-Spec here, so I shall feel free to run with more power and better tyres for 144 A-Spec (no sense struggling and blocking when there’s no need). BL 1’32.392, lapped the Mini One and MOV of about half a minute on the Integra .

Tokyo R246 Reverse

I’m not going to improve on my current 173 A-Spec, so have a play trying to win on S3 tyres, 100KG Ballast and Sports Exhaust and Chip (186 A-Spec was up for grabs but, as always they double-teamed me on lap 5 and got past me). Can’t be bothered to try again as this series has come close enough already to putting me off the game for good.

Fuji 2005

Qualify with additional power and then run the race in 200 A-Spec trim. BL 2’16.438 MOV 0.139 seconds.

Motorland

B-Spec this as I have the necessary 200 A-Spec already. As usual, the B-Spec driver was rubbish and failed to win, even tho’ I stuck him on pole and gave him the NA1 HP upgrade.

La Sarthe

As an experiment, change the oil of the car and see what difference the extra HP makes for La Sarthe. Came close to pole but the Integra still started at the front and could not be caught. Abandon the series.

I now have 200 A-Spec in all the races that I can do so without the use of the Dodge RAM (i.e. not R246 (173), La Sarthe (122) or Nurburgring (160)).

For interests sake, I buy one of the Fairlady’s to see what stats it has (278HP 1320KG). Ah, one of the reasons for it’s pace is that it runs on S3 tyres as standard; that’s why it always seems so speedy but doesn’t boost A-Spec rewards very much. Poled with 2’10.746, up 8.7 seconds versus grid of Mercedes SL55 AMG (R230) ’02, NISMO Fairlady Z S-tune concept, Subaru Impreza STi Prodrive Style ’01, Honda S2000 ’01, Peugeot 106 S16 ’03. A-Spec = 34. BL 2’09.988 MOV 1.843 seconds over the Merc (the other Fairlady was a long, long way back).

Salutations, sukerkin. That's some pretty impressive sleuthing you've done with the Element in the Polyphony Digital Cup. In taking a closer look at the power curve of the Element, I notice it achieves an impressive load of torque way down low at 1500 rpm, and maximum horsepower at something above 5000 rpm, giving a pretty big area under the overall curve. Given our experience with the supercharged Stingray's excess torque, I'm guessing that the "excess" torque of the Element penalizes it's A-spec at La Sarthe, in particular, and maybe elsewhere, too.

I've seen that the BLRA-3 has been used for big A-spec at the PDC, although I don't recall whether NOS or shortcuts were employed.

It seems unlikely that PD would allow it's eponymous Cup be totally mastered only by the glitched Dodge. I'm going to take a wild guess and suggest the Silvia Varietta or IROC-Z as possible candidates for the honors. I'd try it myself, but I've put away my GT4 apparatus for awhile. I'm currently intensively preparing for my karting season.

Cheers!

Polyphony Digital Cup

NTSC/USA 2,000 Aspec pts.(200 ea.)

During my first 200pt. endeavor I used the Nissan Skyline Sport Coupe ( BLRA -3) '62 in combination with the Dodge Ram to accomplish these races, singularly,
having completed the series with a non 200pt. car. The series is attainable for 2000pts with the BLRA, (post #30) which is certainly a worthy accomplishment and probably the best all around car for the task, however as with the 1000miles, I believed there should be another car that was capable of this feat.

Lineups dictate the candidates, so after study of Smallhorse's Polyphony Digital Cup useful A-spec information!,
it appeared the 2nd and 45th lineups held the most promise. Starting with the 2nd lineup I tested quite a few cars, narrowing it down to 2; the Lotus Elan (62), the Toyota Sprinter Trueno GT-Apex ('83). While it may be possible to do this series with either of these 2, I chose the Elan. It has better turning and handling on N1s or N2s on the front, but gives up a slight edge to the Trueno in acceleration. My only other concern was the car is very light and not well suited to blocking, pushing, and ramming when needed. I also add some American torq thrust D wheels to toughen up this "Barbie" looking car.
(I never got to the 45th lineup other than to test a 54 corvette. It seems the higher the HP in the lineup, the more difficult to overcome, since higher HP and speeds are less compatible with "N" tires. Theres probably a car somewhere in the game that can doit though.)

Anyway, off to the PD Cup against the 2nd lineup:

Audi S3 '02
Peugeot 206cc '01
Honda S2000 '01
Mazda RX7 GT-Limited (FC,J) '85
Toyota SUPRA SZ-R '97
Lotus Elan '62

Twin Ring Motegi Road-Course (6 Laps)

After several laps of practice and setup experimentation this is what I ran:
96hp(run down) No oil change, no refresh or stiffening,(might be better if I had, I just forgot) Full trans-auto 2, 5th. 1.100, RC, RF, FC rear, CD, RB, BC, Nos-60, RS, N2/N3, 200ballast, FRB 12, Rear gear 10-30-10, Brake Control 6-8. Suspension: F/R, 8.0/6.0, 92/92, 6/4, 9/7, 4.5/0.0, 1/2, 7/7, no assists.

Can qualify 4th with no Nos, looks promising. A few bursts of laughing gas and I'm on the pole by 3 secs.
Start the race and its 1000miles and Roadster Endurance all over again before the first lap is done. The reality of spotting the S2000 150hp and 3 tire grades fills my rearview. Even taking the shortcuts, by lap 4 I'm out of Nos, the S2000 slips by me and its race over. Five attemps later I've learned where to pick the best spots and technique for "rubbing is racing" and better Nos management, I take the win with 2.9 sec MOV. Best lap 2:27.932.

Seattle Circuit Reverse (7 laps)

Using the same setup, I practice a few laps and take the pole. I'm relieved to see the S2000 is starting 4th. After almost 4 good laps and the S2000 still stuck in 3rd. I can't believe I have a 13 sec. lead. About halfway through the 5th. lap, which wasn't as good as the previous ones, the interval is 10sec. That blasted S2000 is in 2nd and rolling. I try to drive the next two laps as perfect as possible. By the time we finish on the last lap he's 4.9 secs. back.
Glad its over and I won on the first attempt. Best lap 1:59.083.

Infineon Raceway - Stock Car Course (8 laps)

Again the same setup, practice a few laps and start first. Again the S2000 starts 4th. Almost a repeat of Seattle, by lap 4 I have a 12 sec. lead. Also about the same time the S2000 goes into 2nd and starts cutting the interval. However not as much as at Seattle. At the finish the MOV is 6.8 secs. My best lap is 1:28.983. Win on the first attempt. Maybe this won't be so bad after all.

Tokyo R246 Reverse (5 laps)

Hah! Forget that last statement. The S2000 can really unleash those extra 150horses I mentioned earlier at this track. Used the same setup here with a auto 5 gear, talling up 5th a little. After 4 attempts it was obvious you had to find a way to put the S2000 behind the S-3 or Toyota, paticularly about the 4th lap and manage your Nos just right to win. I was also just about to switch to N1/N3 and use 104hp when on about the 8th attempt I tangled with the S2000 at the end of the long straitaway on the 4th lap. The Toyota took the lead, me in 2nd and the Honda in 3rd. I passed the Toyota before the start of the 5th lap and He held up the S2000 most of the last lap. I forgot to record the MOV or best lap on this race. I think I was so relieved to win I didn't even think about it. I think the MOV was about 2 secs.

Fuji Speedway 2005 (6 laps)

I was worried after Tokyo this would be as difficult if not worse. This race turned out to be not as bad as I thought. Same setup and Using Auto 6 on the Trans., practice a few laps and qualify first. After 3 attempts, I was able to stay just ahead of the S2000 from the 2nd lap on, utilizing the shortcut at turn 10 and good Nos management. He was a little slower on lap 4 and 5, so the MOV was 6.2 sec. and best lap was 2:07.007

Motorland Reverse (19 laps)

Auto 1., practice, qualify, and run 19 fairly clean laps. The S2000 pits around 12 to 15 laps. MOV 12.8 secs. Don't remember who ended up second. Best lap 48.058 .

Circuit de la Sarthe 1 (2 laps)

This was the one I was really dreading, and for good reason. The Honda can really stretch his legs here and make it seemingly impossible to win. Switching to 104hp N1/N3 and auto 7, I practice up and try 3 or 4 times. Not even close. I try another 3 to 4 times same result. Since this car is so light it is difficult to block and shove the Honda and at high speed I'm the one who ends up wrecked. After about a dozen or so tries I accidently come across two additional shortcuts that I've never had success with before. T-2 and T-3. Using these I can cut enough time to run with him. On the 2nd attempt I took the win. He was still ahead of me on the last lap at the Ford Chicanes, but cutting them and bumping him into the sand gave me a misleading MOV of 4.6 secs. Best lap 5:10.291. Whew I'm glad this one is over.

El Capitan reverse (6 laps)

I ran 96hp N2/N3 on this one, and its on the same difficulty level as Tokyo R246. You have to get the S2000 behind some other cars to win. I tried generally to slow him at the Start but it didn't always work. On about my 6th attempt I got inside him at 11c and he went up into the shoulder just before the bridge. The Audi, the Toyota, and the Mazda got past him. Consequently they held him up enough for me, along with managing my Nos, to win. At the start of the 4th lap when he took over 2nd place I had a 12.2 sec lead. At the finish the MOV was 6.1 secs. Best lap 2:10.743

Suzuka Circuit (5 laps)

Same setup. Using some "bump and run" in the right places and ration the Nos effectively, I won this race in about five attempts. MOV 4.9 secs. Best lap 2:37.836.

Nurburging (2 laps)

Thinking this would be a very difficult race, I practiced up with 104hp N1/N3s and auto 6, talling up the gears to 1st 2.600, 2nd 1.806, 3rd 1.380, 4th 1.090, 5th 0.870. To my surprise I won it on the second attempt. Qualifying 2nd, I passed the S2000 right before the first downhill strait and stayed in the first using just enough Nos and blocking to stay in the lead. Repeating the 2nd lap as the first, at the T10 staitaway the S2000 slip past me and while I was drafting him he still pulled away 6-8 car lengths. Jumping the hill before the pit entrance, at the last right corner before the Start/Finish line I just did get inside the S2000 nudging him out into the grass, staying on the pavement to take the win. MOV was 1.6 secs. Best lap was 8:51.166.

Overall this was a very challenging and enjoyable series in this car. For some of you running "The No Nitrous Challenge" it may be possible to win Seattle, Infineon, and maybe Motorland for 200pts. without it, if you could catch it just right. Anyway, there is an alternative to the Skyline BLRA-3 and Dodge Ram for 200pts. in this Series.

I did a test run last night in the FGT with the C60 Judd on the ring for 200pts, just to see what the car was like and how it would stand up against F1 cars. Was quite surprised that I beat them quite easily, however now I am wondering would it be easier to do the FGT as a championship or as single races for the 3000 pts. I really don't want to have to do it twice if I can help it.

Try some other tracks too (e.g. Gr Valley, Motegi, Suz) and then decide. I find those the hardest and havent completed them for 200. In same order I got 120,161 and 101 points there.

The championship allows you to qualify and that's a bit of a bonus.

AMG.

In my humble opinion, the easiest possible way to take the FGT for maximum points is to use the Chaparral 2J at Cote D'Azur and New York (slow circuits), use the Pescarolo-Judd at Nurburgring, La Sarthe and El Capitan, (bumpy circuits) as well as at Twin Ring Motegi SS, High Speed Ring, and Seoul, and the FGT itself for the remainder. Sukerkin's Suzuka setup for the FGT is masterly, and quite flexible to other circuits, and my setups for the 2J and Pesky are available at the GTVault. I found that qualifying did not yield a practical advantage for me, as the outcome is largely determined by (1) mistake-free driving, (2) tire wear and pit strategy, and (3) merely adequate pace.
