Wow some of the damage vids have been removed due to terms of use voilation :D

Could be Sony, maybe the demos show glitches that weren't supposed to be shown...

Is it just me or has PSN been really slow in recent days?

Nope. No speed differences for me. Snappy as always.

Curious as to what you are measuring and how.

Is it your download/upload speed of your PS3 hookup to the internet or are you talking about something else?

Just trying to better educate myself. :dunce:

Why in the latest demo when you select the car, in the settimgs(traction control, physics, etc...) there isn't stability control and ABS?

It's a demo that's why. ASM and ABS as far as I remember were in the "Quick Tune" menu, which is disabled in the demo.

PS3 has an Internet Speed test option under the network settings. Test it out, and see what you get. I get 1.3mbps download which is slow, because my ISP sucks. If you have something around there, your PSN Store would load a little slowly.

By the way, when playing Team Fortress 2 with 32 players, it takes .5-.7mbps to play the game. I help that puts things in perspective.

And that doesn't make it an error now?
Why do you bring Forza 3 for comparison on the slightest hint of any negative talk?
1.That's why I'm asking.
2.Forza is closest racing game to GT and it's real competitor (at least trying to be).GT vs Forza will always exist. And it's not bad.

I don't like Forza, but Forza 3 doesn't have that problem. If the tires lock, you can't steer. Which is what would happen in real life.
Ok!I've watched video on youtube - seems you right!

Relax.
Sick of this stupid bickering on this website.
Same goes to you.People asking - people answering.Forum.Relax.

I'm just trying to find out correct answer.

Let's get back to the awesome things GT5 has to offer :dopey:

Wow check it out full frontal damage without paint chipping!

OMG! I won!!

Awesome Congrats!

Is it just me or has PSN been really slow in recent days? Maybe they are preparing the severs to handle all the GT5 demo downloads. :scared:

Just wishful thinking. Either way I wouldn't care, less than two months till it's released. :sly:

Been slow for me as well.

Thanks, that video is good

If this damage is a early build I think when the Merc pushed that Ferrari in the wall damage to the front end was handled nicely imo.

That is accurate for the NASCAR series. There is no paint on these cars, it is all decals. For the other racing series and the road cars the chipping may apply, if they put it in.

Well on my way home from Baltimore today, I stopped by a confirmed Best Buy in Glen Burnie. I played it for about an hour since my local Best buy doesn't have it The controller was shot unfortunately, the right joystick was worn to where it was tilted down a tad bit. The right joystick is in the button configuration as Up = gas, down = brake. So, the car was constantly braking which forced me to use it for gassing and braking. You cannot change the buttons as the options menu is locked. I'm used to driving on a controller configuration similar to NFS: Pro Street, which I don't even use a controller. So my driving sucked. After a couple of races I became more interested the damage.

Physics

The Physics seemed solid on all the cars. It had a different feeling to it than Prologue. For example, the body roll felt much more realistic compared to Prologue where everything felt like flat-out understeer. It was also visible, the car would lean on either side due to the g-force. The grass didn't suck you in like in Prologue. It has a different feel to it, but it is still a slow ride out of the grass. Downshifting while turning is now detrimental, meaning the rear end breaks loose from the higher revs. Power cars with no traction control are prone to spin outs, even on R3s, could just be the suspension though. Having driven on a controller, I cannot give a true comparison to Prologue or the TT demo. All this was experienced under Professional. I tried one game in Beginners and it a huge improvement from Prologue. The car did not handle unrealistically well like in Prologue's standard physics. Instead it seemed to just handle better maintaining the characteristics of the car. Drafting takes effect at a longer distance, not to the extent of Prologue. Professional physics drafting seemed more realistic, about 2-3 car lengths on Indianapolis. In beginner it seemed to drag you in faster than in professional as well. For tires, the N tires seem to be much more improved. They aren't as bad as in Prologue. S tires are in between the feeling of N and R tires.

Damage

The damage was great. Almost accurate as far as speed and collision points. I say this because in the other demos at game shows, people were eating the wall at 100+ MPH and barely hurt the car. Not the case here. Damage appears on all 4 sides of the car. The Nascar is the only car that's hood pops open. It is also the only car to shatter the rear quarter plexi-glass. THE CARS WILL NOT FLIP OVER. I tried a hundred times and the cars will only go air borne. Damage does affect car performance, not sure if it is mechanically or aerodynamically.

Other Items

The AI drive a lot smarter, sometimes I felt they even hit me back after I hit them. They try to avoid collisions better than in Prologue. They themselves make contact with other cars and the wall sometimes. Cars will not do stand still burn outs, they do crazy awesome donuts though. The graphics looked a bit better than Prologue, but not by a long shot. You cannot destroy your headlights so you can't see in the dark either. Debris kicked off the ground: Grass, dry grass, gravel, dirt.

The overall review: I'm pretty happy with it, it will definitely be a better experience on the wheel. I think the physics and damage is only 75% of what will actually be in the final product.

I thank my wife who got bored recording me the whole time lol.

It's not a problem with my internet connection. PSN has just been slower than usual. Here are some of the unusual problems I have experienced frequently in recent days.

1. I'm regularly disconneted from PSN.

2. The PSN store loads and performs exceptionally slow.

3. The GT5P server has given me a few connection errors even though I was still logged in on PSN.

4. Yesterday, GT5P froze on me while updating the time trial leaderboards after leaving a time trial session. I guess the game lost connection to the server and as a result the game just froze.

5. They just updated the software to 3.42 but this has not solved any of my problems. I have not checked today though.

All this happens while my internet conenction is doing just fine and I have no connection speed problems.

All of the above. I bought some games and the downloads were normal. Moving from menu to menu, clicking things and stuff. None of it is any different than it ever was.

Awesome videos. Your wife is a great sport. That glitch was really funny. Also from 7:26 to about 7:32 in the Nascar video you can see some really nice spark effects. They are visible through the tire smoke which I thought was kinda cool.

good videos, the only thing that is not very good is the not-damage in replays...but i hope that in the final product they are going to put it!but it's not to important...the important thing is that there are damages in the gameplay!!!but regarding stability control, it seems that it is OFF in the demo, true?

Thanks very much, to the both of you!

I loved the way you were trying for side-on damage (and succeeded - that poor Enzo!)
I also liked that you could get up close to that villa in Toscana, too. Still, invisible walls are a pain...

On an partially (un)related note:
It's just occured to me, that the Gallardo sound is very familiar... :odd:
It took a while to figure it out, but I've got it! 💡

It sounds like it's a placeholder, since it's using the same sound as a Griffith 500 with a race exhaust, a sound shared with other cars in GT4 (such as the Mustang Cobra R, if I correctly recall.) It's most noticeable at lower revs on the Gallardo.

hhhmmmmmm, something just caught my eye.

In the toscana GTR video where you're doing your best on destrying the GTR's headlights, something grabbed my attention.

At the start of the video pay attention to the GTR's rear and front lights!!! They NOT ILLUMINATED

Then...... at 1:17 in your video, you keep riding the wall, and suddenly you switch to the front view and it look like some "running daylights are on"and the "REAR LIGHTS are on aswell!!!

Then at 1:49 you swtich to the front view again and BOOM, the GTR's XENON LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS ARE ON

Did you press something on the controller? or whats up with the tiny "parking lights"in the beginning , then suddenly the low beams?

I really couldn't give you any idea of common sense regarding PD's ability to simulate damage, as I am neither a computer scientist nor a 3D modeler, let alone a physicist. The trouble is, even if I was, I could not tell you what tricks PD has up its sleeve with respect to the various game engines, because I do not work there in such a capacity.

All we can really do is view what is thrown our way and personally judge the results as acceptable or not and variations thereof, etc. We can add as much supposition as we'd like, but it doesn't really do anyone any favors to upgrade conjecture to certainty or truth.

The trouble is that our perception of what is common sense is formed by a great many things (bigotry and delusions of grandeur included) and it is anyone's guess when it is more social than logical. I do understand what you are trying to get across with your example, I just don't see it as very logical, as we really don't know why the damage is as we've seen to date.
I honestly don't know what to say about this response

I mean I don't see why it's unreasonable to consider this is PD's first attempt at creating something new for GT and that it will evolve on an ongoing basis. As such I also find it hard to consider it to be conjecture because that's what developers do all the time; they continually push to create the best engine technologies. That competition is fierce within the videogames industry...especially when you consider the high-end profile of GT and PD.

All I'm saying is that this is the first generation of PD's new 'OS' for GT. The damage we see now, or that will be in the final GT game, will be tweaked on an ongoing basis so I'm sure, as with any other engine, there will be something more it could offer down the line.

Thanks everyone. As for the GT-R on Toscana, I didn't press any buttons. I think its all timed on the course. Forgot to mention the horn works by pressing L3.

Is there a reason I can't see my original post? Just found it, it was on 1418 when i posted it, somehow jumped back a page??
