GT5 Game Saves And Sharing

Recently there's been a trend in some major game's to block the back-up of game save's to an external source, surely GT5 cannot follow this trend considering how much game time, dedication and effort would be wasted if your game save became corrupted and no external back-up was available.

What's more, a full system back-up only work's on the same system, if you need to replace your system your full back-up will not work.

Hopefully game save back-up's are available in GT5, as GT5P game save's are reportedly transferable to GT5.

I don't see why save data should be protected, game data yes, especially if we end up with DLC. But the player's save data doesn't have any copyright issues that I'm aware of. The only thing that I can see stopping transferable saves is trophies, as this has been cited as a reason before why some games don't allow transferrable saves.

I'm much more concerned about the loss of my save data than about trophies..
I don't mind about having trophies, but I sure don't need them,
certainly when that throws away the possibilty to back-up your data.

This shouldn't even be an issue, from a gaming perspective what's more important, a back-up of a game save from GT5 with a potential 800 car garage, tuned and set-up to your preferences, or a bloody trophy for clocking up 100,000 miles, or some other meaningless statistic.

I and probably the majority agree, hence why I'm wondering whether they will bother with trophies or other developers were just making up silly excuses.

I'm sure there will be an emergency back-up system for GT5 Game Saves, Either Online or System-Based. But If the PlayStation Network Starts to sell add-ons like more cars, tracks, parts, etc they better have an online recovery system that lets you recovery purchased content.

I'm pretty sure that every game released after Jan09 has to have trophies, they are now a mandatory requirement.

You just go to view your download history and anything you have already paid for is free to download again should you need to.

They already do, its called your download list, go into the Store now and see.

RE5 was recently fixed. The Copy Protection has been eliminated. I don't see this as a problem with GT5. However, since the addition of the trophy system, now if you copy your gamesave to another PS3, you cannot obtain the trophies on the 2nd PS3.

This really sucks!!! I keep a running gamesave of GT5P and use it across all of my PSN accounts.

Using copy protection on a gamesave is asinine. Especially, when it's used for the same PSN ID!!!!

Bump...any speculation on this? I don't have time to do all the races I once had and enjoyed with previous games...

Personally I hope backing up saved data will be a breeze. I'm going to buy an external hd soon after picking up this game, considering my ps3 is a few years old and my increase use of it after this game drops might make it kick the bucket.

I find this strange, but take your word for it. So long as the game save is tied to the PSN account then trophies should not be effected by whatever system you are playing on - I have not had this problem on other games when my previous PS3 crashed.

GT5 will probably be played longer than the life of some PS3 consoles so this is an essential requirement -> something Sony should also mandate, no copy protection on saves, and saves tied to PSN accounts.

I realize I'm quoting one of the ancient posts here, but since it's been bumped anyway:

Full system back-up is fine for save corruption (long way round obviously, but it works).
If you need to replace the system you use the PS3's transfer option (which includes protected content).

I'm pretty sure you'll be able to backup the save file anyway, most games have stopped protecting them.

How is the data going to get corrupted? But yes it's probably best to back it up, hopefully just onto a Flash Drive or something. I don't really care about transferable saves, that's just going to take the fun out of the game.

It probably won't to be honest, but sometimes it just happens. Rock Band 3 is the latest victim, there's a point in the road challenges mode when the game glitches and refuses to save, then won't load your existing save anymore.

It can happen although i've only experienced this on the 360. Normally corrupted game saves occur when your console freezes up whilst at the same time its saving.

How would THAT take the fun out of the game?

Why are people worrying over game save backups? Just get a USB stick and copy the game save onto it.

I hope there will be some gamesaves available for sharing.
I think the grinding to unlock cars is silly (imho, ymmv of course) though I would not have a problem with forcing players to grind to unlock a few special cars.
:)

That's what is hoped for but titles like Killzone 2 protected saves so this simple back-up couldn't be used.

It sounds like this policy may have changed which is good to hear.

The only save I would like is all gold licences lol. I never liked doing those licence tests. I dont care about those trophies either. The trophies are a waste of space in my opinion.

I hope GT5's game saves aren't protected, losing long term files sucks, I've lost my 30+ hour JC2 file and havn't touched the game again since then.

Unfortunatly UnionStrike, i just read on tekken90's thread that the game save of GT5 is copy protected. Now how stupid is that ?? Why PD ??!

Damm I hate those copy protections It is not a problem for me, but a friend of mine does not have the time to play through the career. So I always give him my savegame for arcade driving. :(

I hope they lock the saves in GT5, in a month I don't wanna see new drivers with X1's running around online. What's the fun in that :(

Protected game saves don't stop you from doing a complete hard drive copy though do they, so you can swap/upgrade your ps3 hard drive at some point and not lose the saves?

Damn Shigegaki! You should get banned for having too sexy avatar! i cant read what you are saying because i cant stop staring at her  :dopey:

I plan on having that thing by a month's time ;).

It makes sense to have the saves locked. Wouldn't unprotected saves make it easier for the pre-order bonuses and the ChromeLines to be spread around? Plus, if DLC comes, if I made a save with a DLC car in my garage, doesn't that cause some issues if someone downloads my save without purchasing the DLC? I don't know how it all works, but curious.

Ahh well, no sharing then... doesn't affect me any :)
