GT5 Game Saves And Sharing

I really hope saves are unlocked a month or two after the game comes out. I'm still on a fat 60GB PS3 and don't want to re-do everything if it fails.

Same here, I've already replaced the laser once. Imagine losing your car set ups for hundreds of cars? More than one set up for each car too! Never mind the new window I'll need after either throwing my PS3 or myself or both through it!

It WILL happen to hundreds of people, that's a fact. Let's all play the GT5 Lottery of Doom! Good luck people!

What can happen will happen, usually to me.

Bump...any speculation on this? I don't have time to do all the races I once had and enjoyed with previous games...

You can thank pirates and cheaters for that, example, if player xxx has the collector edition, and his game save has all of his cars in his garage + the ones he got from DLC from his collectors edition, or signature edition, they don't want random people to just start showing up with that stuff, it's exclusive, it's why we have codes for them and USB dongles for the Signature edition, even people with the normal edition, doesn't matter, he worked very hard on this.

Otherwise people would just be like heh, I'll just pick a used copy up and get this game save of the collectors edition. What they are trying to do here is make their game a lot more valuable for the owner that bought it. I'm sure you can transfer it via complete backup from 1 PS3 to another. but that's the only way. Only thing I can see being able to be transferred by USB Flash drive is the replays, if they are separate files like they were in prologue, those can probably be stored, since they don't have anything of real significance on them other than just the drivers lap.

All in all, I think the gift feature in GT5 was a wonderful Idea, and they have that there so people don't abuse the system and go "download someones save that has 40,000,000 credits and 1000 cars",right away without having to earn it, the developer made this game to be a challenge, kaz didn't want people to abuse this, and to be honest, if it's one person we should be supporting here it's kaz, he makes damn fine games, and you can all be sure to get the DLC that was missing that you want within the first half of next year.

I'm one of the people with a smaller hard drive in my PS3 that may need upgrading at some point (especially with GT5 eating 10GB of it).

So, let me get this right. If needs be I can do a backup to an external drive/memory stick, replace the hard drive and restore my backup and I will still have my GT5 progress?

If not, can some one let me know and I'll have to replace the drive before I start playing.

I hope they lock the saves in GT5, in a month I don't wanna see new drivers with X1's running around online. What's the fun in that :(
If you don't wanna see them, don't race with them. Simple.

Game saves will be unlocked in the future I can guarantee you that.

Fair comments about not wanting exclusive content to be handed over for free, but WTF difference does it make to your or Kaz if somebody got hold of a save with 40,000,000 credits and a garage full of the normal cars in available in the game? You only say its wrong because you want to earn them and are jealous of other people getting them all straight away. Not being able to backup your own game saves is almost in breach of my rights to take a copy of what is rightly mine for backup purposes. Plenty of people will be complaining, and this will change.

CRXFREAK001, all the DLC stuff and extra cars from Sig Edition will be tied to PSN ID, just like Rock Band's DLC and others. You can't copy this data to another account, so this is not a problem. They locked the save just for the trophies i think... anyway, i don't know exactly how the transfer data utility works, but it seems that it can't transfer locked saves :

Hi Hirndoctor, you can copy all PS3 save data except for game saves that are protected by the game publishers through the transfer utility. Please check in the game manual for Killzone to find out if the game saves are protected"

The only way would be to use the back up utility, but it's a long task and it's not a solution for those who play on multiple systems.

Somehow, we have to find a way to contact PD. In the past i have contacted Capcom US for RE5 and Ubisoft for Call of Juarez locked saves, and they both answered very kindly. But reaching PD will be be much more difficult...

Personally the only thing i'm going to do now is to call Sony France, but somehow i know they won't even pass the request to Sony Europe or Japan so we have to find a more effective way.

For those who are annoyed by the locked saves, please vote on the Playstation Blog : http://share.blog.us.playstation.com/ideas/2010/03/17/remove-copy-protection-from-game-save-files/, thanks 👍

So, if I were to backup my Fat PS3 HDD and then the whole PS3 failed forcing (!) me to buy a Slim PS3 could I then restore my Fat backup to the Slim PS3?

You can restore the backup on another PS3 but some things like protected game saves aren't restored there.

This information was wrong. Protected game saves can be moved via the transfer utility. Doesn't help if your PS3 has failed.

Afaik, copyprotected saves that are backed up via backup utility do only work on the PS3 they are backed up from. Not another PS3.

But you can transfer them via transfer utility to another PS3. But then they are deleted on the source PS3.

So, first you need to backup the saves to an external drive and then transfer it to a second PS3. After that you have to copy the external backup back to the first PS3.

This is the only way to have a real backup.

Well, it is absolutely ridiculous to expect anyone to start GT5 from scratch after they have invested countless hours into unlocking all sorts of content like cars, tracks etc. just because their PS3 breaks down.

I really hope this gets changed very soon, as right now it's a huge disappointment for me.

Really bad idea PD...

👎

I know more people would play this game if the game saves were not locked. Look what happened to RE5. It's all up to Sony and PD.

Locking the game save is a very bad idea.

Some people will have played for 100's hours and if their PS 3 breaks down has to start from the beginning again.

I really hope it will be changed from a future patch.

Hopefully the Game save data is not locked because my PS3 is getting old and YLOD is just round the corner and i hate fixing it because you dont know it works until you hook it all back up GRRRRR!:banghead:

Why don't they simply lock the game save to one PSN account? Just Cause 2 does it this way. It's ridiculous to prohibit people from copying their own saves if they're going to be using them on the same psn account. Someone should be shot for this.

Okay I want to know if you have your game saved in your PS3 at home and you want to play GT5 at your friends house. How can you acess your GT5 game saves so that you can use your own cars and setups. Is this even possible? I heard somewhere that you can save your game progress online. If this is true, do you just need to login to your PSN account to acess your game saves?

I'd hate it if this is not possible since I also have a PS3 upstairs and I would hate it if I would have to play it all over again on a different PS3 just to have all tracks, cars and credit trophies.
