I didn't notice this myself but someone brought it up the other day. Mean i know it isnt massive but when you watch the nurburgring on TV it always seems to look quite wide. What do you think?

I love the Nurburgring, keep it as it is I say :D
The Nordschleife I assume?
I hate the F1 track.

Yeh as i said I didn't notice it at first but when I was watching some nurburgring races it looks a lot wider on TV in real life. Yes nordschliefe.

Ive been on it in real life, it's barely big enough for 2 lanes of traffic. It looks bigger than it is.

No, the width is very accurate. I had the opportunity to drive many laps of the Nordschleife a few years ago and was very surprised by how narrow some sections were (the width varies throughout). In some places, it is little more than a small two-lane road.

It always look a lot easier on TV.
Like F1 for example looks really fast for example but from the driver's point of view is just nice and calm.
I've never seen any Nurburgring races apart from ones from inside the car.
Can you provide a link to the one you're talking about?

F1 is raced on the GP circuit which is a lot wider than Nordschleife is.

edit: If you watch the end of GT4, look how narrow a lot of it is compared to the 350Z (which is a small car)

Lens focal length and camera height can have a dramatic effect on making things look different. I think it's fair to say that the Nordschliese is one of the FEW things that PD got really right in GT5.

It is quite narrow in certain spots. My least favorite race in GT5 was the Nascar race at Nurburgring. If there are two Nascar stock cars side-by-side, one of them most likely has two wheels in the grass, lol!

It makes passing on that track very interesting...

If you keep running off the track, keep practising at the game. I can do lap after lap without going off track (taking it easyish), and sometimes even when absolutely pushing it (its usually a huge releif when i get onto the long straight - one of the only chances to relax a little!).

This.

The best example I can give of this is any camera at the end of a lengthly straight, looking straight down it. It's really tough to really determine the length of it through that perspective. It's one of the more extreme examples, but one of the best. Formula 1 cars are a lot longer than they look through TV cameras.

As for The Green Hell, I really enjoy how narrow it is. It's that extra challenge that makes for some great racing and great passing. If the course alone isn't a tough enough test, passing in some of the quick race cars is even tougher. Also, most of those race cars (Super GT for example) are wider than their production counterparts. Tougher +1

I was thinking about going over there. Do you think after playing GT5 and having no track experience I could manage to drive the Nurburgring in real life? I would like to rent a 300hp car but not push it to the limit of course. Maybe go all out on the straight.

If its only 300 HP then it should be very easy. I had never driven it before either and managed to get a 911 GT2 around in a pretty decent time without any major spins or anything (blind corner about 1km before the carousel is a real pain in the ass though).

TV cameras and photographs can be very deceptive things, they make the track look wider in relation to the car from the outside, but you'll only realise that is just about two lanes when your driving.

It seems to be pretty much the same as the real life track.

That being said, this place would be 1000x better if it was maybe 1/2 to 2/3 of a lane wider. It'd open up so many more actual racing possibilities. As it stands, much of the time when on the track with other cars is spent playing follow-the-leader or making dangerous overtaking attempts. It's a great place to time trial, but decidedly less so if you actually enjoy dicing it up with others of similar ability.

Basically the same thing I was going to post. It's fine as long as you're not in a race with other cars on the track.

The nordschleife is one of the best tracks available in this game if not the best. Yeah it is quite narrow but it's challenging. I love it!

Wow, that must have been a pretty scary experience, don't they call them widowmakers? :scared:

Was it your car?

I think its just the 911 GT2 RS that's called the widowmaker, I was in my mom's regular GT2. It's still pretty 🤬 scary coming up on the blind corners before the carosuel though lol.
