WELCOME TO THE TOCA SERIES SEASON 2!!!
FINAL STANDINGS:
SEASON 1 https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=177567:
For my first ever online series I decided to go with something different... something unique... then I saw that there was virtually nothing for Touring Car racers save from a few RMd Integras, modified road cars and DTM V8s... I wanted to create a series in the spirit of the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC), known the world over for its fantastic racing and competition. And thus the TOCA Series was born named in honour of the glory days of the BTCC in the mid to late 1990s...
So for Season 1 I assembled a small but quality grid of racers and we prepared for a fun time. There was good racing, rough racing, contact and a few spectacular moments and incidents... but people stayed in, and driftking18594 became champion with 5 wins from 9 races. The PSN Outage resulted in the end of Season 1, but now were back and ready to go with a new season... Season 1 was an appetiser, and we are ready for Season 2... are you?
TECHNICAL:
~4 Cars Are Eligible for TOCA Series Season 2:
BMW 320i Touring Car:
The BMW only appeared in a couple races in Season 1, but showed promise. Whilst without testing it wasnt the fastest, it was consistent and also kind on its tyres. With a little more practise and setting up, theres no reason why BMW cannot be victory contenders in Season 2.
Honda Integra Type R Touring Car:
The Honda was a difficult car is S1. Undeniably fast, but horrible on its tyres. This meant that the Hondas often shone and lead the way early on before dropping back. However, after a Season getting used to the car, maybe lessons have been learned. Anyone who masters the cars set-up is a sure-fire title contender.
Lexus IS200 GT-1 Race Car:
The Lexus was a very rare sight on track in S1, but showed glimpses of potential, running well but often getting shoved off by other cars. The Lexus has a vast untapped potential owing to the fact that it was not far off the pace without upgrades the car does not come with a customisable transmission or racing suspension kit, but special rules concessions allow it to race with it. Maybe this is a chance for Lexus to shine?
Mazda 6 / Atenza Touring Car:
Mazda arguably had the best package in Season 1 4WD giving incredible handling and acceleration, a chassis that made the most of the cars intimidating frame. And there is that rotary growl reminiscent of the 787B Le Mans car. Mazda just may have the best chance at victory.
~All cars must be in stock trim except for the Lexus IS200 GT-1, which is allowed Racing Suspension and Racing Transmission to bring it in line with other cars. GT Auto changes (oil change, car wash, engine overhaul, chassis overhaul) are allowed.
~Car Set-up changes are allowed (Aerodynamics, LSD, transmission, etc)
~Racing Hard tyres are mandatory - No sports tyres allowed.
~All driving aids are disallowed with the exception of ABS which is allowed at level 1
~In a new rules tweak, cars must run with a minimum weight of 1100 kilograms.
~Maximum BHP is 276
RACE MEETING:
~Events are held in my Lounge.
~Events are run of a saturday.
~The Lounge opens at 7pm British Time.
~Practise / Qualifying is one session, open from when the room opens.
~Drivers will have 30 minutes to set a time to determine grid order for Race 1. Please remember that if you set a time, quit to the main session screen, and re-enter your time is wiped. So if you are happy with your time stay in the garage.
~Races will be run from a standing start.
~Race 2 and 3 are reverse-grid events.
~Between races there is a 10 minute-interval, set via the automatic countdown.
~Set-up changes between races are allowed.
~Penalties are off
~Damage is limited
DRIVING STANDARDS / ETIQUETTE:
~ This is touring cars so bumping, rubbing and small taps are par for the course. But excessive and deliberate moves across half the track to take someone out are disallowed. Remember be hard but fair.
~ Drivers are not allowed to repeatedly block one another.
~Any incidents will be reviewed by me and others, as I will have all replays saved. Warnings and Points Deductions will be handed out if necessary.
~Kerb cutting is allowed if you have 2 wheels on track. However I appreciate at a track like the Nurburgrings final chicane with its movable barriers this may be more difficult to implement.
CHAMPIONSHIP:
~ We will use the the BTCC Points System that we used in Season 1: 15-12-10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1
~Pts will count for all 24 races.
OFFICIAL 2011 SCHEDULE:
01 - Nurburgring Nordschleife (Change Time) (21 May - RACED)
2 LAPS / 25.9 MILES
Season 2 kicks-off with an event originally intended as the climax for Season 1, and its no easy task. The Nurburgring Nordschleife is the most daunting circuit on the planet stretching for 12 miles through the Eifel Mountains. That in itself is a daunting challenge, but the races are at different times, with varying light levels... One thing is certain... the winner will need skill and luck to conquer the Green Hell.
02 - Monza (Change Weather) (28 May - RACED)
6 LAPS 21.6 MILES
Monza is a truly legendary circuit, steeped in history. It is also incredibly fast, with three chicanes and the tricky Parabolica the only corners that involve braking. Victory here will go to the tactician, who can maximise the power of the slipstream and out-brake and out-manoeuvre his opponent. Of course possible weather changes throw another factor into account...
03 - Madrid Mini (4 JUNE - RACED)
16 LAPS 21.12 MILES
A small triangle of roads around Madrid make for an interesting race. Thats the least you can say with narrow streets, large lanes, 3 totally different corners, kinked straights and high kerbs. A brave driver will slipstream and outbrake to victory. A fool will over drive their car into the barriers. Precision is key.
04 Cote DAzur Monaco (18 JUNE - RACED)
10 LAPS 20.8 MILES
Monaco is an Iconic circuit, the millionaires playground. But in Touring Cars the slightest glimpse at a casino or yacht will put you in the barriers around this two mile labyrinth of streets. Solid walls and tyres punish you. Monaco is a track where only supreme skill and car control brings you victory.
05 Tsukuba (25 JUNE)
16 LAPS 20.32 MILES
Tsukuba punishes tyres. Even with two less laps than last year. Short, but twisty and narrow, a rhythm is important here with limited track space. Overtaking is risky but S1 saw 3 abreast racing that worked successfully, so it is possible... Of course sometimes it isnt, and so an encounter with a very hard wall is also possible.
06 Indianapolis Road Course (DATE TBC)
8 LAPS 20.88 MILES
Half oval, half infield makes for a set-up headache as the series heads stateside to the legendary Indianapolis circuit. Do you pursue speed but lose stability under hard braking and twisty corners? Or set-up nicely through turns but be left in the slipstream of a rival? Mastering the set-up is key to success at Indianapolis.
07 Laguna Seca (DATE TBC)
9 LAPS 20.16 MILES
The TOCA Series has to negotiate the notorious corkscrew for what could be a championship deciding round of the series. Laguna is narrow, and sand traps punish mistakes dearly. Judge your move carefully, and wait for the time for the strike for it could win or lose you the championship.
08 NURBURGRING GP/D (Date TBC)
9 LAPS 20.34 MILES
A wide straight... enough for five abreast... into a sharp hairpin. Carnage at the hairpin is guaranteed as the championship finale rolls into town. Also this track punishes tyres, and set-up is a tricky mix of speed and acceleration. Who will win Season 2 we will have to wait and see...
