Buffalo, NY: NE region for GT Academy purposes???

Is Buffalo considered a Midwest city in normal circles of life?

We're considered NE in GT:A (they put the line at ohio which is ~150 miles down the lake shore) and pretty much everything else. We like to coat-tail off of NYC. Suppose that's what the "Queen City" is supposed to do in the "Empire State" I suppose. The canal really made this town so that was an umbillical chord to the coastal cities.
Sports go that way too it seems... NE division in NHL, AFC East in NFL, think we were NE when we had a basketball team as well (clippers ever get the Buffalo sports failure off them?).

onto business: Going with "Laser Blue / Ice Blue" for the body / wheels. Both lotus chips and the RM wheels look surprisingly hot when painted a bright color.

Here is my entrance:

Hi, I'm interested in competing in the series.

lapierre4 (lapierre4) WR Blue Mica, grey

annnnd this just turned into one of the fastest series on GTP.
All we need is a few more names and it could be the fastest ever.

Sorry for my abrupt exit from the room, my kids flipped the switch on the wall...

Lol I take it as a complement, thank you mister Wardez, but from what I saw tonight, the setup will be crucial because I was 1.5 seconds off pace... I didn't like that too much, we'll see how much I can improve.

For the number, I'll take number 9 but please someone if we meet online, remind me to change it because I will forget for sure lol!

Yeah I can only hit flat 2:04s right now. Trying everything I can to go faster but coming up short. You're 1.5 seconds off what time?

Off mr. EERS' time. He hit 2:03,072 if I'm right.

The setup looked strange though, maybe an extreme setup is better than something too low profile.

Care to elaborate? My setting are much closer to stock than the settings Wardez posted.

He's talkin about your setup, I think....the settings wardez posted (which I was using tonight) make the car very stable and very good to tires, however there is no progression feel for losing grip. Waaaaay too soft for my liking, but it was interesting to drive for sure.

Edit: we're gonna need a b room....

I plan to race this weekend but I'll probably need to do the Qualifying runs Friday night because I'll be going to a anime club meeting Saturday afternoon and won't be back until 8:30 pm EDT or so unless you can stay online at that time Mule.

I'll probably need to utilize that tune that was posted in this thread because I could only get as low as a 2'06.4 while keeping the car on the track. Most of the rest of the time was spent tying to prevent the rear end from flying out of control off of some of the turns on my part.

What do you mean by progression feel?

With that set up (albeit tweaked out since I posted it) I'm able to lay down consistent 2:04s almost forever. Tires only really start dropping off after 12 laps.

hah, and I'm sorry, but what do you mean soft? It's actually on the rigid side.

BTW, who here uses chasis reinforcement? I don't. Just curious if anyone does.

Oh man, I thought I was done with the GT Academy. Here we go again with the OK I'm running good times........no, wait.......how the 🤬 am I going to run that time:banghead:

Haha, its going to be fun though. All it can do is push me to go faster and learn more:tup:

At the moment I'm stuck around the 2:04's and trying to figure out the 2:03 times. I believe its more driver than setup for me. I love Suzuka, but for some reason I just can't get it.

I mean in lateral grip, with your setup, it was very easy to lay down consistent laps (although I'm still figuring out the proper lines :P) and it was very easy on tires. However, I felt like I could just slide the car for miles and miles and then suddenly it would just lose grip...Does that make sense?

Lol maybe I've got the tuning backwards, but don't higher numbers on compression and depression mean that they are able to travel further and thus the suspension is softer? That and the high camber numbers make it look soft to me, and it felt really soft too...... :P I could be TOTALLY off, but it just wasn't the setup for me

I'm not using chassis enforcement....does it even help?

I went back to a simple setup like the one I had at tsukuba and threw down a 1:04.6 on my second lap, so I think it's just me needing to take my time, learn the line and stop saying "I hate this track, I hate this track" in my head constantly. Had a 3.9 lined up after the first sector, then crashed, then got disconnected :( Owell, hoping if I come back for some more practice tomorrow I can at least break into the 3's for qualifying :)

Just a final note: War's setup really is fantastic for your rear tires, so if you're having trouble controlling the oversteer that's a great setup for you.

Well there it is again for people that don't want to search through the pages again. I think it's a good baseline set up for people new to the car to start with. Especially if we get more people during the season. Maybe Mule can post it up in the OP as a base recommended tune?

But I get what you mean about progression Stig, like the tires get pulled out from underneath you out of nowhere because you don't get a sense of the tires wearing from lap to lap. Then suddenly you're in the shniz. Don't really know what to attribute that to.

But about the suspension numbers. High is stiffer. So a 10 allows less travel than a 1 in the dampers.

btw I feel you Plate. I love Suzuka too and secretly wish I was awesome at it every time but I just never seem to be able to get it together there when I want to everytime. It's the bane of my sim racing life. I think Suzuka really lets the best drivers shine (especially if you ran it tons back in the GT Prologue days, which I didn't get a chance too).

Thanks! Can't believe I was backwards on those numbers :P Driving on the raggedy edge at suzuka feels so much more dangerous than it does at any other track...probably because it's got so many high speed sections....

Actually, just searched this for giggles - 17 deaths since it's opening in 1962

Darkened my blue since me and lapierre had almost identical cars in the practice room. But this should work nicely. Better contrast with the icee wheels too.

#19: Dr_Watson (TnJF): Cosmic Blue / Ice Blue

this sure is a tricky car for me, i passed like 5 laps in 2:05.7 - 2:06.3 and then 2:04.6xx (??). need a lot of practice

Okay, so with the sudden growth of the series, there's a couple of things I want to say:

I'll get the tune that Wardez posted in the OP soon, along with TnJ's colour change (I still think you should go with the Sabres colours, but oh well ).

A Friendly reminder that the fist quali session is Tomorrow, at 6:00 PM EDT. Even if you don't plan on qualifying tomorrow, be sure to come out and watch if you can. Last weeks sessions were very exciting, and with the sudden surge of extremely talented races joining up, this week will surely be the same, if not greater.

Also, with the all the recent sign-ups, we will most likely be in need of a Flyin' Miata style "B" Room this week. In order to encourage people who don't qualify for the race to show up and race in the B-room, the winner of the B-race will receive an automatic provisional into the main room for next week at Autumn Ring. I may also make the B-room go half-distance or 3/4-distance, but I'm not sure yet. Feel free to give your thoughts on this.

And finally, until I can think of more things to point out here, we have a new Steward! I asked him via PM, and I'm pretty sure he said yes, so helping me run this thing will be SohnVonStig, aka ponyboy. I'll also probably need someone to "officiate" the B-room races. Likely not as an official "steward" per say, but someone who can give me the results, host the room, and organize everybody in their grid spots. I also have someone in mind to ask to be a 3rd Steward along with Ponyboy and me.

If you took it wrong, I'm sorry. I was saying that last night I saw parts of your setup in the lobby and I saw completely different numbers than what Wardez posted.

And by the way, if I thought your setup was strange, I would be nothing but dumb because it's clearly fast, right?

Take care, see you on track!

Sorry Pierre, I thought you were talking about how my car handled, not the actual settings. But yeah, my settings are almost opposite of Wardez's. I think his setup has less weight on the front, but more mechanical grip in front, also. My setup is lowered equally and then I took out the front mechanical grip, meaning, and this is what was said in the lobby past night (for anyone not there), positive front toe and relatively low front camber compared to the back.
