WARNING: There is a limit to how many items (gear, parts, paint, tickets) you can have.

@christara321: deleting colors works as well. ;)

Just had to check whether the paints total in the top corner stood for.

Fired up another PS3.
My account 2690 Paints.
Sent 5 paints from other PS3.
My account shows 2691
Sent 4 paints I knew I had. and 1 I didn,t have on my main account.
So get counting DriverSS 👍
Plus am guessing this will also be for all ITEMs in the list thats been provided?

Horns
Paints
Parts
Suits
Helmets

Chat soon bye for now.:)

So he is currently trying to add everything up to see what the limit is, but the problem is the bloody paints! It's easy to add up all the car parts, horns, and gear, but adding all the thousands of paints is going to take a long time as the number shown in the game is not the total number of paints, but just the total "unique" paint chips. Making the matter worse, he apparently has thousands with a wide variety of repeats.
Did you make sure doubles count?
Try deleting something he has more than 1 of, and see if he can receive another item.

The next thing we tested for was on what would happen when you have reached your item limit and are then given your daily 10 paints...

The answer to that is that you do not "receive" your paints, and the game doesn't inform you that you have reached your limit like it does when you try and receive an item from your in-box.

However, the game will continue to try and give you those paints each time you restart the game. So if it's important, you can delete items to make room for the new paints.

Unfortunately though, not only does the game not show you your total number of items you currently have, nor does it tell you what the limit is. It just tells you that you have reached it.

I'm just confused by this part. How will I know when I reach the limit? Is there a pop-up like when you reach your sending limit? Or are daily paints the only thing I will lose if i choose to ignore this?

Not sure about paints but working on the same theory.

I had 2 helmets side by side Horizon 11 deleted 1 of them and then when I went back in, It showed 690 before I deleted I had 691?

So presuming paints do the same thing then the total in the corner is what you have lined up.
Whether there are a repeat of one above or below it.?

As I said, there was no message that you had reached your limit when the game attempts to give you your daily paints. So if you didn't know otherwise, you would think you got those new paints, but you didn't. However, by restarting the game, you will again get the pop up window letting you know you were being given your daily paints - but in reality you aren't. That would be your only clue that you have reached your item limit and if you want those paints you'll have to delete some items.

The message that tells you that you have reached your item limit only came up when trying to receive items from his in-box when he had reached his item limit.

They are two different situations. One alerts you with a message about exceeding your item limit, the other does not.

Still missing the photo of the popup message about the limit & the complete item list of DriverSS.

Would make it a bit easier to believe the story & explore the thing. :sly:

Nice attitude, sorry for trying to help and not being able to do everything you want....

If you don't believe it just move on and see what happens.

If you want a picture, send a PM to DriverSS and ask, as it's his game save that reached the limit not mine, but you might want to tone it down a bit seeing as he's doing everyone a favor trying to figure this out. Not to mention the fact that it's going to be a serious pain to count all his paint chips, which he says he has over 2,500 unique chips with excessive amount of multiples.

Telling him to get busy counting and demanding pics isn't probably going to encourage him to put in the effort to help identify the limit... but if so inclined, feel free to PM him and see how well that goes over.

I don't say it's untrue, but he would be the first person ever discovering a item limit.

And after looking at his account DriverSS with a post count of 25, it doesn't looks like he's a big trader. I am wondering from where "your friend" has all the tons of stuff?

Give me a bit proof to believe it. Thanks. :sly:👍

My guess is that car tickets (in your delivery truck) must count as well as they are in the items list unlike the garage cars and museum tickets.

Not that it's any of your business, but he is an "actual friend" whom I have known for several years and who isn't exactly a fan of video game forums... perhaps for reasons not all that unfamiliar to those of us who aren't fans of some of the unwelcome behavior from some people that use the internet for less than friendly, informative means.... but again, if you are so curious you have the means to contact him.

As for being a big trader, you might not realize it, but not everyone who plays and trades in GT5 uses gtplanet... shocking as it might seem.

I agree. If he hasn't already, maybe he can test that out as well.

If I can may I just throw this in there so I understand this in my own head.
You say there is a limit.?
Never seen it so I can not question if there is or not?

Lets say for example he, your friend has 5000 paints.
Checked before he last logged in. 5000 paints
When he logs in again he gets given his log in bonus. 10 paints
But nothing shows that his total has gone up. still shows 5000 paints.
So he turns off and then when he gets his next log in bonus he gets 10 new paints. Should show 5010, No it shows 5000 still.
Is there a chance that he has been given log in bonus paints he has?
Like I tried to point out in post #32 of this thread.
By sending from another PS3 in my house.

EDIT: Just like to point as well.
I have just got my log in bonus and only ended up with 1 new paint.
2691 has just risen to 2692. Should of got 10 new one,s?

Another thing that has puzzled me was. When all the frenzy for the suit/helmets went on and we were all chasing them and sending like madmen.
I did a saved around 10 pm one evening.
And then sent items out over and over again and reloaded my save back on.
When doing so I got my log in bonus again thinking hey not bad extra bits,
It happened a couple of time,s. But realised it was from an save before my reset time at 1am uk.?
Am not questioning anything but trying to work it out and help?
Its just puzzling that so many on GTplanet have been collecting for such a long time and its suddenly come about that there,s a limit on items owned in the game?
Hope not but until we all get to the bottom of it who knows the answer.
And I hope I have explained myself properly so you can understand what am trying to say?
Chat soon mate bye for now.:)

EDIT: I just thought that if any one has enough credits of money what would be the chance that we could get one of you crazy people out there to sit and spend every last cent/penny on parts until you reach the HIDDEN limit in place by PD.?
20 million credits should go along way to buying a few items?
Just make sure you saved before you spend?

@christara321: yes, that's the normal way how the game adds new items. It will only count different items, every new one will increase your overall number of items (unless it's not bugged due to backup & restore = dupping). 👍

I think it works like this:

let's say you get color Midnight Purple. For the game the color is nameless, it has a number, let's say 1472. Now it saves to add the new item to your save game. A endless list of numbers of all your items + a number on the end with the amount of every item you own. If you have already the color then one line in your gamesave would change from 1472x1 to 1472x2.

But if you dupped the color before, the game would delete the item number 1472 from your save game or edit it to 1472x0. Now when you receive the color again, the game doesn't check your current inventary, it check's the list & it would see that the color is not there. So it adds another one to your real list.

That would explain why we have sometimes duplicates in our inventary. But how the game still knows that after you have restored your old game save is the question? Maybe it saves some informations like sent & received items in the cache & then saves the new informations to your game save when you start up the game?

In theory that is what I tried to explain.
But what am saying is that because it shows and we both have the right answer but 2 different ways of showing it. (Explaining it)
That the highlighted bit in the quote area of the post above saying that it showed no indication of a reaching a limit.?
Am just wondering what has happened.?
Some genuine mistake.
Some limit thing.
Not showing any increase in numbers thinking he has not got any new 1s.
Maybe he got his paints but because the numbers didn,t increase in top right hand corner he thinks thats the limit thats has hit home?

Am puzzled to know the right answer?
I think we are all looking at the right answer but no information is not helping?
Chat soon mate bye for now.:)

Well what about when you dupe a car? Has anyone else noticed that the car no longer has a thumbnail when you restore your save? I thought that was kind of odd :\

RE: Counting paints.

List paints by amount owned
Count the paints with more than 1 owned (Minus one)
Add to the total

Should save a lot of time

Yes, i thought the same. It's highly possible to get no new paints as login bonus when you already have 2900+. :)👍

Well what about when you dupe a car? Has anyone else noticed that the car no longer has a thumbnail when you restore your save? I thought that was kind of odd :\

Yea, I think it's because after you've sent the car, it saves. It deletes the car from your save game & it deletes the thumbnail from your cage. The cage is saved on your HDD.
The save game & the cache are two different things. Maybe there are 2 lists of our inventary, one in our save game & one in our cache?

Then after restoring your save game & loading the game, it could be that your thumbnail of the car is gone (deleted from the cache). And therefore they have included the "Refresh thumbnail" function.

They have known that this could happen, especially after allowing us to backup our game saves to a USB stick (also known as the dupping power). :sly:

Can I stop counting yet. Please. LOL

Why would you want to have 1500+ racing gear items? Isn't it just parts that you did not install? I have not a single item, just paints (2500+), horns (185) and racing suits/helmets (?/?). My Save game file is 3.004MB with 830+ cars and i can still receive items like gift cards, cars, horns, and paints.

It doesn't even matter because the new items take up very little room. It's been proven here: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?p=5454169#post5454169
I feel confident it's not items.

My save file btw is 4016KB

I have a full collection of every unique item besides paint (1600+). It must be the cars that cause this? That's assuming the problem is related to the massive file sizes.

Hello. Come on, none others experiencing this problem other than DriverSS. Why don't we consider this system failure or something like that. Don't forget, it happens once in a while. Be it gears, paints, parts etc, I'm sure PD isn't that stupid to limit them. After all, they are just minor part of the game, it would make more sense if it was car since I believe it takes more space (bigger data) than those little parts etc.

UPDATE:

We finally were able to count all his items up:

Code:
[SIZE="4"]691	Helmets
660	Suits
21	Body/Chassis
12	Engine
0	Intake System
15	Exhaust
12	Turbo Kits
9	Transmission
0	Drivetrain
9	Suspension
0	Comfort Tires
0	Sports Tires
30	Racing Tires
0	Special Tires
120	Horns
5376	Paints
48	Tickets[/SIZE]

Making a grand total of 7,003... suggesting we may have been off by three, as 7,000 seems like an obvious round number.

We did confirm that tickets also count towards the total, so ALL items in the "Item" folder count towards the total.

Also, he was mistaken in that he also got the pop up message alert about reaching his item limit after clicking OK on the daily paints. The reason he thinks he did not get the message before was that he had deleted enough items before the daily paints arrived.

He also tested out whether or not it would give some of the daily paints if there was room for just a couple, and it did not. So you must have room for all the paints or else none will be given to you until you make room for them all.

All I can say then if that is a true figure.?
Then the best a person could do is open several accounts on there PS3.
And have an seperate account for individual Items.
Account 1 GEARS
Account 2 PAINTS
Account 3 HORNS
Account 4 PARTS
Etc,etc, etc.
Then it allows for any new incoming ITEMS.
And there MAIN ACCOUNT have what they need the most while they play the game.
No point in having 5000 paints on your MAIN ACOUNT if your not going to use them to play the game, So they are best to be on a seperate account?
Take care and Chat soon mate.
Bye for now.:)

The paint is the culprit simply because there is too much too collect. I guess if I was starting over I would just keep the paint on a separate account. Damn shame for the existing paint collectors.

Thanks for the info, only very few will reach this limit but good thing to keep in mind.

EPIC Fail on PD's part, especially if there is a pop-up message, then they actually knew they were creating more items that one could hold. 👎

Yes EPIC fail on PDs part.?

But as most collectors have at least 2 accounts its just a question of spreading things about?

Take the 2000 garage limit, 2 accounts thats 4000 cars. COOl.:)

Like ths Suits/Helmets just have them on another account, They are there when you need them thats creates a space of 1300+ for more paints.
plus unless your going to do a fashion parade then thats the best place for them, You only have at best 7 Drivers to cator for?

And if you have for example 100 gold chromes. Whats the point in that? You can at best only send 5 a day.
The true hate of PDs work is the limit of what we can send rather than collect? IMHO. (In my honest Opinion)
Chat soon mate bye for now.:)

Tickets 68
Horns 279
Museum Cards 1431
Suits 660
Helmets 691
Paints 4914
Parts not CHECKED by me.

Total 8043

Paints am working on this links total?
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=165958

The other totals are working on MYGRANTURISMO totals of the ITEMS.
Thats individual. Unique, One off. No doubles.?

Totals for: Tickets/Horns/Museums Cards/Suits/Helmets/ I can vouch for them I have them all? (Sorry nearly all tickets.LOL)
Paints am not wasting my time counting them. LOL:)
So the point being your going to have to sacrifice collecting some thing over the other if its a 7000 limit.?

Opps Sorry my mistake.
So detract 1431 of the total.
No double,s and everything stays unique just one off each.
Total comes in at 6612.
So am guessing there must be many out there with large collections of the items some one must also be close to this limit?
Maybe a picture of what is happening would help us to see the limit?
Like the 2000 garage limit there are numerous video,s on youtube.
Chat soon mate and thanks for pointing that out. LOL.:)

Obviously they are double,s in there with the total he has got.? (5376)
But If he has all the 4914 then maybe thats why it does not show any new paints? When he collects his log in bonus. Don,t know?
Maybe they are getting added on to a paint he already has? Don,t know?
Is it possible to have a photo of the limit Image?
No idea what the maessage says? Apart from what your telling us?

EDIT: I will explain why I ask.
When I receive my log in bonus, I also get 10 new Museum Cards since I have them all am not going to check 1431 to see which one,s have just been given and doubled up on?

Please tell me how in the heck you guys collected 5000+ paints.

I buyed tons of cars to get all standard cars in different colors (buyed, sold, buyed, sold,...). My garage is full (2000 cars) but i am currently "only" at around 2000 paints.
