From Div1: Loved that, great racing - fantastic to be able to race wheel to wheel with some extremely clean and fair drivers, was awesome 👍
First stint, I hoped to be able to claim Adam's rear bumper as my own and hug it for the duration, but I made a mess of Turn 3 on the opening lap on cold tyres, which meant I had cars swarming all over me - Joshua1994 and Longbow specifically. That meant I had to defend my position for at least the first couple of laps, and 4 seconds down the road Adam did go
From then on, was having a great battle with Longbow once we managed to get a bit of a gap from the others - with swapping positions every now and then, that meant Wiifreak was closing up on us slowly but surely. Around lap 10, our 2-way battle turned into a 3-way battle for 2nd place - all the time, Adam breaking further away into the distance as we swapped positions every lap, probably losing 1sec or more per lap in the process.
Into the pit stops, Wii pitted a lap earlier than the optimal 12/13 lap split. Back down to the two of us then temporarily, and on Lap 12 I managed to get a run on Longbow into the chicane and took the position prior to both of us making our stops. It turned out that would be a race changing move for the both of us, making a huge difference on the outcome. My pit box was fairly early in the pit lane, meaning Longbow had to slow to let me get into the box whilst he travelled further down the pits. In the meantime, those battling for 5th/6th/7th/etc all pitted at the same time. I managed to have my pit stop done JUST in time. My car came out just in front of OwensRacing who was at the front of that train - if I was 0.1 later into the pitlane, I'd have had to wait for his car (and the others!) to pass. As it was, it meant I got out with a clean pit stop whilst Longbow was the one who ended up having to let some of that pack down the pit lane, holding up his stop in the process.
From there, that immediately turned my opponent for 2nd from Longbow into Wiifreak. I managed to get out ahead, but a little mistake taking too much kerb in the downhill right (Turn 6?) meant the back end stepped out, and Wiifreak went past. From there, I was reasonably concerned about the same happening again, and the two of us holding each other up to allow Longbow this time to catch us back up - but some sensible drafting of one another and only passing when necessary, meant that never was an issue. Once we got to the final two laps though, the "no no, after you" racing turned into an all-out battle for P2 - side by side for the majority, only eventually settled at the chicane on the final lap in Wiifreak's favour. Certainly some very fair and very hard (this is a good thing!) defence on his part, giving a car's width but no more - very well driven - and very consistent too. Often racing against someone "new" is challenging because you don't know what they will do, but this was perfect, thanks!
Oh and I heard someone called Aderrrm was lonely for about 50mins, poor guy
