Welcome to the Week-Day Toyota 86 Spec Racing Series! We are proud to say that we are the first series announced that makes use of this wonderful new car! Available on the 20th of December as Polyphony Digital's Christmas present to the world, the Toyota 86 is surely going to be a hit with the drifting crowd, and for those who enjoy cars with great balance.

Below you will find multiple sections to describe this series. If you have any questions, just post them below and I'll answer them as quickly as possible.

Let's go racing!

Ah yes, the Toyota 86. After several years of speculation, spy shots, and flat out rumors, the time is upon us to put this baby in gear and drive her away. A joint venture from Subaru and Toyota, the car features a 2.0L Flat-4 engine that was developed largely by Subaru, but uses Toyota's new Direct-Injection technology. With great aerodynamics and a lower center of gravity that a Porsche Cayman, the 86 aims to please those drivers who enjoy a car with fantastic balance.

For this series, we will be racing the car in Spec form. What that means is, tuning is prohibited right down to the tires! This puts everyone on a level playing field and allows the drivers talent to shine through. This will be enforced by using the new "Restricted Tuning" option in the online lobbies. The only item that can be adjusted freely is the brake balance.

Wheel choice and car colors are OPEN.

Performance Stats:
  • 197 hp @ 6,500 RPM
  • 151 lb/ft @ 4,500 RPM
  • Curb Weight - 2690lbs

As stated above, this series will run with a "Tuning Prohibited" option in the online lobbies. The only available tuning option under this condition is the Brake Balance. Drivers are free to make this adjustment as much as they please.

Race Stewards:
  1. R1600Turbo
  2. Wardez

Event Settings:
  • Boost: OFF
  • Penalty: NONE
  • Grip Reduction: REAL
  • Visible Damage: OFF
  • Mechanical Damage: LIGHT

Regulation Settings:

  • Power: Unrestricted
  • Weight: Unrestricted

  • Tire Restrictions: Comfort Soft
  • Vehicle Tuning: Prohibited
  • Skid Recovery: OFF
  • Driving Line: OFF

  • ASM: OFF

Races will take place on Tuesdays & Thursdays at the times allotted below in the schedule section. Each race will be open to the first 16 drivers that arrive in the room, and will consist of two (x2) races. The first will have a 10 minute qualifying session, followed by a 15 minute sprint race. For the second race, the field will be inverted and will run for approximately 20 minutes. Each of these races is bullet-pointed below.

Each driver is only allowed to race in one of the races available each week and have it count for points. If a room has available spots open, a driver who has already raced that week may participate, however it will not count for any additional points. All drivers will be put into a single, combined points table to fight it out for the championship.

Please be in the room on-time! Drivers that arrive after qualifying has started, will not be allowed to race unless you clear it through a race steward first!

Race 1:
  • 15 Minute Practice
  • 10 Minute Qualifying
  • 15 Minute Sprint Race
Race 2:
  • Reverse order from Race 1
  • 20 Minute Feature Race

If I don't type something, it takes my caps away! :dunce:

p.s. can I recommend doing Trial mountain reversed? It's more fun to time-trial forward, but much better for racing reversed.
As we saw with FMSC3 the racing on the forward version is pretty crap due to the draft through sector 1. This is largely alleviated going backward since the lead into the fast bends and start/finish is a slow corner rather than the fastest part of the track.
There is also just much better and safer passing opportunity going reversed.

I hate that!

Trial mountain reversed, that was actually the track I was thinking of, I got the layouts backwards :dunce:

I have had more "last corner wins it" races there than any other track.

I also have seen great races on TM reverse.

TBH I'd rather see relatively "unknown" tracks that aren't run in every single GTP series though. Between the 10 or so real life tracks and a few favorite originals, it seems like many get neglected.
Tokyo, Cape Ring, SSR5 and/or Clubman Stage 5, all good tracks when you get to know them.
Honestly I think Clubman 5 would be great for this car.

Yeah we did TMR in the C6.R series, it was nuts. (well, at least from the replay)

But yeah, I'd be hosting the races at 7pm EST.

That car was too fast and wide for the track. Trial Mountain and Deep Forest are small-car tracks.

Story's the same for F1 cars around Monaco and we're not stopping that anytime soon are we?

"shrug" Wasn't me.

We did have some great finishes in OMRS month there once with 590PP or so RX-7's. That was when I first found out that a good offline tune will kill you online.

I remember yanking the hell out of my wheel and car to get decent lap times, both of us kept pushing harder and harder shaving like 3-4 seconds of our first laps. :scared:
Should be good for these little cars I think.

TMR and Clubman 5. ;)

I picked the best tracks that I thought would suit this car. Some of those are too wide/long/boring for slower cars.

No idea what tracks you picked, I can't find them in OP.
Just saying Clubman would be a neat fit for the cars, if not a bit simple, would provide entertaining races without necessarily being a draft-fest.

Track selection's in the interest thread second post, and Clubman's in there 👍 which is one of my favorites as well.

Hey ian, where are you from, how'd you find the series and what do you like about the rule set or time?

Hey ian, where are you from, how'd you find the series and what do you like about the rule set or time?

Im from California, I was looking through the forums for a good series, and times are good for me!

Nice, thanks for responding, looks like you'll have a good time then. We just like to get to know people the know they're serious about attending. Way too many dudes pop in, post their colors and never show up again 👍

This may be a new psychological trick in determining who's really down. I'll use it from now on :D Just ask new sign ups a little about themselves to get themselves a bit more comfortable.
