Yeah, it likes to slide.
Also, you should always save your best replay, even if you know that you will go faster.
It provides a backup in case you can't do another run and it helps you by giving a ghost to shoot for.

Edit: I really don't like the RGT now, ran 20+ laps trying to get its time down and ended up wanting to burn down PD for making it understeer so much. I then quit the practice, took a break and came back to it. 1st lap and I dropped half a second. :boggled:

This week’s challenge is;

Modern Supercars.
If you remember all the way back to week 1, I opened this competition with an 80/90’s supercars theme, so now it’s time to see how their modern counterparts fare. For this week we’ll be driving the Volkswagen W12 Nardo Concept & the Audi Lemans Quattro, both of which are two of the most modern supercars in GT4, at the Special Stage Route 5 Reverse circuit.

Track: Special Stage Route 5 Reverse

Primary Car: Volkswagen W12 Nardo Concept ‘01
Transmission: Either
Driving Aids: Off
Tyres: S2 (Sports Medium)
Quicktune: None (Stock)

Optional Bonus Car: Audi Lemans Quattro ‘03
Transmission: Either
Driving Aids: Off
Tyres: S2 (Sports Medium)
Quicktune: None (Stock)
Optional bonus Car Time: For this week, you need your time in the Audi to be within 2.000 seconds of you’re time in the Volkswagen to get the 1.000 second bonus.

My Times (so Far)
Volkswagen W12 Nardo Concept ‘01: 1:24.344
Audi Lemans Quattro ‘03: 1:25.799

These are the specs the cars should have on the track menu screen just before you start driving;
Volkswagen W12 Nardo Concept ‘01: HP-592 KG-1300 Tyres-SM
Audi Lemans Quattro ‘03: HP-631 KG-1530 Tyres-SM

You have until Tuesday 21st February 2012 1:00 PM GMT to post your best time(s) in this thread (you can edit/improve them if you wish). All other rules are as per post No1.

Good Luck.

I see you did with your Ruf laps what I was saying earlier, that's excellent! I was short on time for improving my results. Best of luck to everyone with the next challenge!

Hi there. I regret to inform you all that I'm withdrawing from this series.
After thousands of hours of playing time, my DFP pedals have finally given up and it doesn't look like I can rectify the sticky brake pedal issue that's been plagueing them for a while anymore. I've lost count of the number of times I've stripped them down, cleaned them out, reseated potentiometers and wires and generally resurrected them more than I really ought to have! Since I'm not progressing to GT5, I'm not inclined to buy a new wheel / pedals, so I'm calling it quits. :(

Will still be around but won't be a competitor anymore. 👍
Good luck to all!

Nardo 1'23.463
Truck 1'25.384
Will post rant when I get on a computer instead of a Wii.

Edit: Noooo!!! Smallhorses isin't playing anymore? D:
But who will replace you as Vettel?

Edit: Ok, I started the challenge early in the week. Ran a 23.379 with the Nardo and thought that it understeered. Finally turned the PS2 on to do the secondary car part and found out that I had to win it first.
Once I started to drive it I wished that I hadn't, it could be one of the most frustrating things that I have done in GT4. The car understeered so badly I was swearing at the Tv, thinking about what I would do to PD or Audi if they walked into the room. It took me 3 hours to finally get a clean time that I could post without being laughed at. There is another second available in both cars, although it would be a hell of a lot easier to get it out of the Nardo.

Then there was another problem, I had to slow down the Nardo at least .005 of a second to be eligible for the bonus time. Cue lapping the track trying to get just behind my ghost. After I got my 23.463 I just said, good enough.

Sorry for the rant, I just had to vent it somewhere.

I'd never driven the Audi before either, it definitely struggles with understeer. I guess this shows that a quick driver can extract more time out of a neutral car, but if it understeers there's only so much you can do with it no matter how good you are.
Don't worry no understeer with next weeks cars.

Ok here are the results for week14.

This week’s challenge is;

NSX Week.
The Honda NSX is one of my favourite cars in GT4. It Looks good, it sounds good and it has very nice MR handling. So this week we’ll see how the original ’90 NSX fares against the NSX Prototype LM Race Car.
The undulating nature and the many high speed corners featured on the Trial Mountain Reverse circuit should be a good test of your ability to keep these MR cars pointing in the right direction.

Track: Trial Mountain Reverse

Primary Car: Honda NSX ‘90
Transmission: Either
Driving Aids: Off
Tyres: S1 (Sports Hard)
Quicktune: None (Stock)

Optional Bonus Car: Honda NSX Prototype LM Race Car ‘02
Transmission: Either
Driving Aids: Off
Tyres: R1 (Race Super Hard)
Quicktune: None (Stock)
Optional bonus Car Time: For this week, you need your time in the race car to be at least 12.000 seconds quicker than the road car to get the 1.000 second bonus.

My Times (so Far)
Honda NSX ‘90: 1:40.797
Honda NSX Prototype LM Race Car ‘02: 1:25.746

These are the specs the cars should have on the track menu screen just before you start driving;
Honda NSX ‘90: HP-274 KG-1350 Tyres-SH
Honda NSX Prototype LM Race Car ‘02: HP-512 KG-1120 Tyres-RSH

Might have to step up a bit if your road car time is past the 8 minute mark lol.
1pm +5 for my time zone is 6pm so I should be able to get a lap in, I did some laps earlier in the week but couldn't remember which direction the track went and ended up choosing the wrong one.
It is a fun combo though.

At the time of posting there is just about 5 hours before the deadline. But if you're only a couple of hours late I'll just edit your times in.

I was a bit worried that I was going to be the only competitor this week, and was thinking about stopping the competition, but so long as there is at least one other competitor, then I'll keep the series running.

This week’s challenge is;

Falcon Vs Commodore at the Mountain.
As an Aussie I though it was about time I did an Aussie V8 Falcon Vs Commodore week. Unfortunately the FPV GT is not a start car or prize car, and Mount Panorama is not available in GT4, so some compromises have been made. So the cars you’ll be driving are the FPV F6 Typhoon and The Holden Monaro CV8. The circuit that best resembles Bathurst for mind is El Capitan so that’s where we’ll be driving. The speed of these two cars is pretty similar, the Holden has less weight and more useful gearbox ratio’s , but the Ford has more power, so lets see which comes out on top.

Track: El Capitan

Primary Car: Holden Monaro CV8 ‘04
Transmission: Either
Driving Aids: Off
Tyres: S1 (Sports Hard)
Quicktune: None (Stock)

Optional Bonus Car: FPV F6 Typhoon ‘04
Transmission: Either
Driving Aids: Off
Tyres: S1 (Sports Hard)
Quicktune: None (Stock)
Optional bonus Car Time: For this week, you need keep your times in both cars within 3 seconds of each other to get the 1.000 second bonus. (NB: Your bonus (for final standing) will be subtracted off whichever car's time is fastest)

My Times (so Far)
Holden Monaro CV8 ‘04: 1:56.804
FPV F6 Typhoon ‘04: 1:56.742

These are the specs the cars should have on the track menu screen just before you start driving;
Holden Monaro CV8 ‘04: HP-327 KG-1658 Tyres-SH
FPV F6 Typhoon ‘04: HP-362 KG-1776 Tyres-SH

Is there a miscommunication with the AM/PM?
I thought that I had until tonight to get the times in.
Wow, 1 40 898 and I have to go to the dentist.

According to some inter-netting Ontario is GMT - 5 so you had until 8:00AM Tuesday 28th local time (correct me if I'm wrong), meanwhile I'm GMT + 10 which means I do the results at 11:00PM every Tuesday local time.

I can understand confusion regarding time zones, and I'll add your time for the NSX '90 but it is ultimately your job to make sure you understand when you need to submit by.

I ran a 1'56.967 in the ford, I'm going to try the holden next.

BTW, Nice time shot.

1'57.0XX with the holden. lol

Thanks
Good to see it's not just me who found that their speeds are pretty close, within 0.1 (well 0.2 at most) for both of us. Personally I'm a Ford man, but I enjoyed driving the Holden more (bit less understeer).

I don't know how legal my 1'56.5XX lap was, here are some questionable moments.

This was the first turn.

I'm not sure about this one.

And this is just neat, I got very close to the wall. :scared:

You are in by miles!
Thanks for sorting that out Shotagamee, I added time instead of subtracting, oops.
About the lines for being in. Aftet the first chicane at Trial Mountain Reverse, is the racing surface out to the wall or to the white line. I would think that it is to the wall because that is what would happen in real life.
And kerbs are considered part of the racing surface, right? Or is it defined by the white line that runs around the track.

And with Andersons 3rd shot, it would be okay to run a full car width wider because the small white line is not actually the outside border, correct?

@ AndersonG22 as Bopop4 said those pics are all 100% fine.

@ Bopop4;
-Re Trial Mountain Reverse exiting first chicane, the outside wall (not the white line) would be the limit.

-Kerbs under OLR guidelines are considered part of the track. (I personally would use the white lines as the track boundary), but Kerbs as part of the track is a pretty universal rule in GT4 and so its easier to understand / police.

-Re 3rd Pic, pretty much same issue as Trial Mountain, I see the track limit as the outer edge of that slightly darker (approx 3 inches wide) strip so you could be about 1.5 cars width's wider (not that you'd want to) and still be on the track IMO.

I will say that (Re 3rd pic) for the upcoming double apex right, the area between the wall and the raised brown kerbs I would not consider to be part of the circuit.

If in doubt read the OLR guide (link in the OP), if you're still unsure ask me.

Ok perfect, thanks for clearing that up.
Getting started on driving now.
Another great combo, the Ford is faster even though it understeers more, but I thought the gears were perfectly suited to the engines wide powerband.
In the 55s with the Ford.

There is so much time to be had with the Ford, but I will have to leave it at this.

GT4 Weekly Arcade Time Trial Challenge: Week 17

This week’s challenge is;

Classic Corvettes carve up the Seattle Streets.
There’s something satisfying about driving overpowered / under tyred classic muscle cars around Seattle, and the fact that one of the GT4 Driving Missions is based on this, means I think the folks at PD probably agree with me. So this week we’ll see how much speed you can get out of the 1969 C3 road Corvette, as well as the 1963 C2 race Corvette.

Track: Seattle

Primary Car: Chevrolet Corvette Stingray L46 (C3) ‘69
Transmission: Either
Driving Aids: Off
Tyres: N3 (Standard Road)
Quicktune: None (Stock)

Optional Bonus Car: Chevrolet Z06 (C2) Race Car ‘63
Transmission: Either
Driving Aids: Off
Tyres: R1 (Race Super Hard)
Quicktune: None (Stock)
Optional bonus Car Time: For this week, you need to be quicker in the race car by at least 13.000 seconds to get the 1.000 second bonus.

My Times (so Far)
Chevrolet Corvette Stingray L46 (C3) ‘69: 1:50.611
Chevrolet Z06 (C2) Race Car ‘63: 1:34.703

These are the specs the cars should have on the track menu screen just before you start driving;
Chevrolet Corvette Stingray L46 (C3) ‘69: HP-351 KG-1490 Tyres-RD
Chevrolet Z06 (C2) Race Car ‘63: HP-600 KG-1168 Tyres-RSH

Yay, I'm just wondering what type of controller everybody uses.
And does it make a difference? I know that Holl01 is bad fast with a DS2 but is that just an exception? (I am running a G25)

For me there's a pretty decent hint about my controller in my signature.

I'd check out the GTRP Licence times as they show which control device is used for each license time. Gives a good indicator of which might be most effective for that license test. You can see that even though Holl01 has all the top times, he changes his controller type to suit each test.

I think this shows that while there are certain situations which will favour the controller there are others that will favour the wheel, I don't think either is inherently faster than the other.
