But if it's "then" instead of "than" or vice verse, what would you possibly confuse the meaning with?
When reading the OP (with dozens of thens which should be thans) whenever I get to a then my brain immediately thinks I should do something after I've done something else which is confusing.
"..set the rear higher then the front"
translates in my brain as
"first set the rear higher, then [do something to] the front."
