What car would you like to use tonight Tyrrell:idea:

Our team name can be Merlin Racing Melon:tup:

The Spider seeing as I haven't got the Lotus.

Also how about "Petrol" as the team colour, it's a sort of blue colour. I've got plenty of them if you want one.

Heavy damage? cool. I would've joined but I had the GTP 2.4 hr race today. I like the heavy damage though, it definitely makes for exciting racing

That was the most rewarding, fun and clean racing i have ever had on GT5. And for me it was all in not so glorious SD!

Here's how my night went.

PS3 on at about 7:40pm for the 8:00pm race. No picture. huh? Changed HDMI cable, still no picture. Changed TV, still no picture. Now its 7:55pm and im getting frustrated. Rememberd that i had an old PS2 that i saved for the kids. Scart lead 'borrowed' and pluged in. Pictures, horrible, blurry, not centered but pictures all the same. No sound now though. Had to log out at start of qualifying to change the sound settings. When all that was done i just managed to log back in with. 2 mins left of qualifying. So started at the back.

Had some really good battles early on with the two green car team. Once i had passed them i seamed to pull away with some 1:37s. I managed to keep it clean with no damage and think i got a couple of 1:36s to help me catch melon in 5th.

Then on lap 13 i got a message. Low battery on controller. My pit stop preperation now became real. Lap 14 long straight i was thinking 'where is the power cable'. Lap 15 straight was 'its in the drawer in the other corner'. Lap 16 i pit, run to the drawer, cable out, cable in, light on, lollypop up and we're away again. Textbook!

The rest of the race was trying to work out who had pit and who had not. Before i knew it i was in second. A few back markers to pass. Everyone had great awareness and i didnt have any problems with anyone so well done to all the guys i passed in the last few laps. Bit of pressure from tyrrell at the end but i held on for second.

9th to 2nd in my favourite classic GT5 car. Got to be happy with that! Will have to watch it back in HD at some point to see what really happened, cus' it was a bit of a blur...

Good racing JT - I tried to hold you off for as long as I could but it was in vain. You were driving like you had somewhere to be!

I'd like to thank Watermelon again for hosting such a great race. The amount of effort she puts into these events are evident when we have such great turnouts and competitive races with little or no incidents - even with heavy damage on! Awesome work as always.

It was truly a great event. It was a struggle to keep Tyrell behind me at the start, but once he lost the draft I managed to keep it smooth and consistent. Up until my pitstop on lap 24/25, I was running laps within 0.3s of each other and was just waiting until 2nd placed man went into the pits before I did to make sure I could keep the advantage. Takes the tyres a lap or two to warm up before you can comfortably push the car.

I do love that Spider, as J-Neb described it, it's a Zen car for me. I don't have to think I just sit there and stare at the screen and before I knew it the race was over!

I had a little tap with someone as I was lapping, luckily gentle enough that there were no consequences, my fault for not allowing enough room in the braking zone.

The race started good for me. Started 6th, got to 3rd, then hit wall 3x, each causing enough damage that I had to pit for each putting me well out of contention. So disappointing.

@ jbica : don't get discouraged about the heavy damage... My first couple heavy damage races online didn't go so well either last year.
The key is to be strategic.
GTP_J_Turner is a very good example. He finished 2nd, but was not even in the top 4-5 cars on the leader board until I think after halfway through the race!

I miscalculated my pit strategy a tad. I probably could've had a shot at Johnnynebraska's position had I been more sensible about pitting. He definitely bested me in the sensibility department! :) Not the first time, probably not the last time. But maybe I'll have better luck next time. :)

That said, it was close finishes between many cars, considering a 30 lap race!! I was always, throughout the race, in contention for a position with some other car either in front or in back, or both!

PROPOSED HEAVY DAMAGE TEAM MINI ENDURO:

Autobianchi A112 Abarth ‘79
& Honda CIVIC 1500 3door CX ‘79
@ Cape Ring Inside (1.54 miles)
Comfort Medium Tires
Everything else pretty much the same as this event. 👍

Race Report

Started 2nd after a pretty good qualifying. I was right behind Zorrin for the first few laps and I missed quite a few opportunities to overtake, the heavy damage certainly makes you think twice about going for a pass. Once I lost his draft I fell behind putting in consistent 1.37's and 1.38's.

I think it was around about lap 24 I went full throttle through the tight right hander after the back straight, slamming into the wall and spinning out. I'm sure I'd seen Zorrin manage to do it, perhaps not. I limped back to the pits to see JT pass. I tried a late rally but it was to no avail.

Great race, thanks to all involved and to melon for organising it. 👍

Certainly interested in the Cape Ring one.

Not sure which exact corner you mean, but I was extremely conservative. However, had you passed, then I'm sure I'd have pushed much harder in the hopes of getting a clean pass or forcing you into an error ;)

The Cape Ring seems a little underpowered but I am interested in it. Wholly Sheet has a reputation to build!

The one after the cobbled straight where you exit right next to the wall. I'm sure you would've re passed as you were faster, but what's to say you wouldn't have crashed trying ;)

The 79 hatches are definitely low power, but I think on comfort medium tires on Cape Ring Inside with heavy damage, it can be more exciting than expected.

At least that was the case when we did the historic Mini Cooper on Avanti Angolo with heavy damage endurance. Everyone was surprised at how fun it was in such a low power car. And these 79 hatches are around the ballpark same power as the historic Mini Cooper.

Plus, a few people (including me) have been itching to race these 2 1979 hatchbacks. :)

I've done at least 2 heavy damage races on Cape Ring Inside before, and they were both very fun. (In Low HP League, and WSCC 2-speed traffic racing school.)
These were very well received and applauded fun races.

Would anyone be interested in the same time this coming Sunday?

I'm definitely interested in the next team race but I can't make it at the same time this coming Sunday. Could do Saturday, though.

I'd be keen - any sunday night after 7.30 BST works for me.

Worried may lose my place in the sofa racers due to mediocre performance:nervous:

Yes I enjoyed the race to, it was good fun:tup:

I would like to join the next race:D
