After test driving all 15 Class A tunes the final test results are in!
Testing Details: Tests were conducted with three laps at each track. The best obtained lap time of each course was combined into a total time. Game settings include TCS off, ABS 1, Fuel/Damage off, Grip Real, and Controller Sensitivity 4. The Toscana course time progression setting was reduced to 1 for consistent day light driving. The test drives were conducted using a standard Dualshock 3 controller.
Oh and that feedback I promised... well it became a huge wall of text!

XDesperado67 Daihatsu Mira TR-XX Avanzato R '97, "Pocket Monster Type R"
At Laguna this thing lives up to its name! The car will rocket up to speeds over 110mph down the first hill. It took two laps to really get a feel for this car as the entry speed and grip into a corner can easily be too much for proper cornering. The dirt played enemy to the Miras speed and agility. The biggest issues were trying to control the mid-high speed cornering and then acceleration from low speed. The chassis was a bouncy at times but works well enough for the course. Not bad rallying for a muscle kei car considering the tune felt very tarmac focused. Thank you for putting on the event and for such a fun little monster.

At first, it feels like there is a lack of torque but once you climb the back hill you can put those worries aside. The corning speed and grip you can obtain with this car phenomenal. The overall speed on the tarmac is up there with the fastest cars in Class A. It is just as quick and easy to drive on the gravel with its ample traction. The chassis is very predictable on the gravel surface even under braking. The only thing that could make this even better would be adding even more power. This is a wonderful rally tune for one of my favorite little kei cars.

On the track the handling is smooth through every corner and the only real enemy to this car is speed. It even slowly accelerates up the hill before the corkscrew. The chassis was easy to predict and control throughout the bumpy Laguna course. Take this Nissan to the gravel and it performs like a FF rally car should. Pickup is great and it is always willing to accelerate even while turning. The corner exit acceleration isnt at all what you would expect from a pre-90s micro car. Great small rally cross crusier!
C-Zeta Toyota Yaris F 99
The Yaris F was fairly slow at Laguna due to its very long gearing in the transmission. The brakes were just strong enough to slow the car for a corner and use the power to partially pull the car through. The mid corner grip was just enough to keep the car on the track and not end up in the sand. The off-road performance was much better. The only real issues were the same as at Laguna. The car tended to understeer on higher speed sections, brakes were enough, and I didnt even come close to using 5th gear. This car needs very high engine rpms to make its power and torque. With a closer transmission, I think this car could have run much faster at both course. Overall, it was a good fun tune at Toscana.
trackripper123 Daihatsu Copen Active Top '02
On the track this Copen is actually very loose and might even badly understeer when on the throttle at the limit. Once you discover traction limitations, this car becomes a speed demon. At Laguna this car has enough speed, handling, and braking performance to take the crown as the fastest Class A car. The car does almost perfect off-road with the exception of rotation under braking. This car really likes straight line braking in the gravel but will still pull the front end around the corners under full throttle if the correct gear is selected. The Copen chassis felt compliant easy to approach the corners. The gearing worked very well for a 5 speed transmission at both tracks. This is the sole Class A tuned car that was able to break in the 1:44s at Laguna! Amazing tune!

The bulkiest looking of the Daihatsus, but this car exceeded my driving expectations on the tarmac. The corner entry, exit, and overall speed were great. This might not be the fastest group A car at Laguna but it certainly feels quick and balanced. The chassis balance was a bit worse on gravel. The power was decent but was more difficult to find grip on the slippery surface. Accelerating out of corners was greatly affected by the tire grip. Even though the car felt slow, it still turned a decent time around both tracks. Very nice balance compared to the other Daihatsu rally cars. Good job!
NEWDRIVER2 BE-1 '87
At first when driving this car, the handling felt stiff and to have understeer when accelerating out of a corner. The top speed was lower than expected due to the close gearing. Once the driver has a feel for the chassis the car was quite fun to see how much speed can be carried through the corners. On gravel the car felt good, just difficult to get each corner entry but exits were always great. The low top speed was not as big a concern on the gravel but the car seems to suffer the same power problems. Overall this is a fun but low powered entry that gave a very enjoyable drive.
OSE_CAP_SHADOW HSV Insight
This was a straight forward car for me to test as I tuned a completely different but same base model of the car for this shootout. This car was moderately quick, had mild understeer, decent handling, and the brakes were excellent. The Insight was about average in overall speed around Laguna even though it was a bit slower in the corners due to tire grip. There was not quite enough mid-range power on the uphill sections of Toscana. The wonderful braking that was present at Laguna became tougher to control off-road. Only uphill cornering gave issue when trying to decelerate and maintain momentum. This is likely also due to grip limitations of the little hybrid and not really a tuner fault but more of a performance limitation. The acceleration and speed once you get this thing moving exiting a corner was excellent. This car drives nicely for a hybrid and has much safer handling then my crazy Insight type-R.
Diogo G. Daihatsu Cuore Avanzato TR-XX R (J) '97
The power band was very interesting on this car. You have great torque at the low end and need to keep the gearing in 2nd to 5th and shift at 6-7k rpms. The transmission seemed geared a bit low for Laguna but the chassis was just fine for lightly tossing the Cuore into corners. Off-road, that low end torque really helps this car accelerate out of the corners. The chassis felt composed on the gravel but the engine lacked the punch to really push the limit. A very easy to drive car once you understand the low end torque and shift appropiately. It might not have had the muscle of the pocket monster but it was still very enjoyable to drive.
LineR32 Kung PAO Micra '89
The PAO has a nicely geared transmission and a fairly predictable chassis. First lap it was simple to find just under the limit in cornering grip. The difficult part is losing too much speed and you have ruined your lap time. This was especially true on the uphill section of Laguna were higher speed drastically cut the PAOs acceleration. This car seemed even more focused to its off-road capability. Its good gearing and chassis allowed it to easily make its way around Toscana. Great corner entry balance combined with its excellent exit acceleration works wonders for this rally car.
Jkinealy Daihatsu OFC-1 Concept Note: Hosted by XDesperado67
As another car with low end torque focused power band, the OFC was greatly affected by a low top speed at Laguna. The car holds its line very well at Toscana with all that low end torque. If the car had slightly taller gearing it might have been even faster instead of shifting to the next gear at around 5-6k for peak power and torque. On both tracks, grip and handling really allow the driver to see just how far they can push the cars limit. Nice tuning!
Moparisgod panda Super I.E. 90: Hosted by krenkme
The chassis felt balanced on most of Lagunas corners and the speed was decent throughout the course. There was difficulty in finding traction on the higher speed sweeping corners but most of the other Class A cars also suffer from this problem. The Pandas acceleration was a bit slow but still managed a respectable time on the tarmac. The gravel killed the Pandas ability to turn while braking. The overall feel off-road was moderate speed and acceleration with slightly slippery grip. It was quite fun for a Panda turned rally car.
Tris_73 Suzuki Cervo SR 07
This tune is a power limited entry that feels balanced overall. The speed was decent and the Cervo used all seven gears. The handling was above average and the brakes worked well on the tarmac surface. This cars stiff chassis seemed very sensitive to bumps that would require corrections to keep a good line for a quick lap. The Cervos off-road capability was wonderful. The car grip at a corners entry and would give only the slightest understeer. Apply the proper gear for exit and the car would pull right around the corner and accelerate toward the next bend. The broad powerband worked very well off-road. Nice job!
Motor City Hami Suzuki Cervo SR 07
All of that grip and the added aero really help this car to become the best handling Class A car on the tarmac. The overall acceleration and speed is good but is still shy of the most powerful Class A cars. Regardless, this was an amazing car to drive at Laguna. What the Cervos handling did toward its lap time at Laguna was even better at Toscana. The seven speed close ratio gear box is just as amazing as the cornering ablity. On gravel you just brake, point, and go with this car! If the driver doesnt like how a particular gear feels for a low speed section he or she has six other gears to select from instead. Had this been marginally faster at Laguna it easily would have won the Class A competition. Great tune!
Thank you tuners, testers, and most of all XDesperado67 for helping create another amazing competition!
